Residents of Mariupol continue to hide from the shelling of nationalists in basements and shelters. Many of them are afraid to take to the streets of the city.

The Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God in Mariupol, which is located next to the destroyed drama theater, received 180 refugees. Finishing work has not yet been completed inside the cathedral. But, people found a safe haven in it. They go out only to the inner part of the yard, fenced off, where they cook food on a fire. This area is still under fire by Ukrainian snipers.

“There were about 200 refugees in the basement of the temple,” says Nina, the head of the temple, “a few days ago, most of them were evacuated. Now we have people who cannot move around and five children are hiding – they did not have time to evacuate. One baby is not even a year old. Three women have numb legs and cannot walk on their own, one man is without a leg. All of them need medical attention. The Russian military and the local militia of the People’s Militia of the DPR share their food with us. But we are trying to save money.

The basement of the temple is dark and damp. Building materials are lying. Therefore, you have to carefully go down the stairs. Lamps are dimly lit in two corners. They were made by refugees. Fat is poured into empty cans of stew, which impregnates pieces of matter. Improvised lamps or lamps are obtained. A little lighter downstairs. Someone brought a battery from a truck and attached a car headlight to it. This is the brightest corner in a dark basement.

In the area of ​​the temple we met two mobile groups of military men who checked our documents. One of the Grozny OMON named “Akhmat”. They were carrying a worker in a car, who worked at the Azovstal enterprise and helped in obtaining information about the plant. Grozny fighters look dashing and well equipped. They provide all possible assistance to the local population and conduct military operations as part of the Russian group to destroy Ukrainian nationalists. Communicating with them, you are convinced that the misfortune of people does not leave anyone aside. People of different faiths and nationalities unite even more: they invited us to visit Grozny. The second group of military men is the Russian military reconnaissance group, which patrols the front line. They asked them not to take pictures and recommended not to walk along some streets that were fired upon by Ukrainian snipers. They shoot at civilians, military and journalists. Even the inscriptions on helmets and body armor “PRESS” do not save. A few days ago, Izvestia TV channel war correspondent Rodion Severyanov was wounded in the leg near Mariupol. According to the publication itself, a sniper hit him, the bullet went through and nothing threatens his life. There are no international codes of honor for Ukrainian nationalists.

Another problem that is still difficult to solve in Mariupol concerns the evacuation of sedentary citizens from remote areas. Many residents cannot reach the points of distribution of humanitarian aid. With work colleagues from Yekaterinburg, we managed to help one such family get to the hospital. A woman with lung cancer has an attack and cannot walk. This family was taken out by a journalist and part-time regular driver of an old “penny”. The guys bought it for 26 thousand rubles for their money. So, they say trips are cheaper. More than once I had to drive this car with them to dangerous areas. Colleagues joke, saying that her place is in the museum of journalism.

According to the press service of the People’s Militia of the DPR, over the past day, 34 civilians were injured – all from the liberated territories of the Republic. As a result of the shelling, 22 housing constructions and infrastructure facilities were damaged or destroyed in the Kirovsky, Petrovsky and Kuibyshevsky districts of Donetsk, the village of Aleksandrovka and Gorlovka.
