The kissers

Everyone knows the photo. It has become an iconic image of the 20th century. Taken in New York City’s Times Square on August 14, 1945, it shows an exuberant sailor kissing a nurse. Onlookers grin in the background. The nurse looks surprised as the sailor bends her backwards, her right foot raised off the ground, her left arm behind her. The image manages to capture the sense of relief, exhilaration, and unbridled joy brought by the news that Japan had surrendered and the most terrible war in history was finally over.

    Hello, everyone! I’m back!

Thank you for your prayers and sympathies for our loss.

Anne was a grand old lady and we gave her a grand old sendoff.

I’ll fill you in on more details about her later.

Suffice it to say that I’ve included a few hints in the new thread I’ve put up.

Troy, if you’re around, I’ll check my hotmail later on today.

And see how you’re feeling about things now.

Unfortunately, Bill won’t be home later.

But it will give me time to get caught up.

    Thank you, again, good people.

I stumbled upon this blog by accident and I just have to say you all are missing a few cards out of the deck. Honestly, praying for the president to die? I am appalled by the lack of respect you all show for the office of the President of the United States. That’s what made the US the envy of the world, the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another, the graciousness of the loser, and the citizens give respect to the person in the office because we respect the office.

Do you really believe the US has a special grace from god? If that isn’t the height of hubris. I was always taught god loved everyone equally, but somehow you think he loves you a little bit more and that you are superior

And you do realize, “those people in Congress” you talk about are the people from your own town that you elected to Congress. They’re not some alien race, they are your neighbors.

Yes a change is coming, to a time when the dreams of our founding fathers is realized, that we are ALL created equal, and that we ALL have the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

    Good morning, jordi!

I was unaware of the comment you refer to.

If you will provide a date/time stamp, I will delete it.

I can only speak for myself, but I have no desire for Obama to die, only that he is not successful with some of his ambitions.

Especially, I do not want him to succeed in passing anymore government-run health care than we already have.

I confess I did want Saddam Hussein dead, but not Obama.

I am curious, were you equally appalled with the rhetoric on the left about George W Bush?

    “Bush lied. People died.”

Perhaps if there had been more outrage from some on the left regarding comments like these, things would be different today.

But, no, politicians on the left remained silent and let the disease fester.

So I believe what Obama and, in fact, the whole country is experiencing today is in part karmic.

    It is a shame.

Hi everyone..I read thru the posts but did not see that the news this morning has been posted here. “President Obama declares H1N1 Emergency” Its been on Fox News and the others this morning. He signed the declaration late Friday night. Here is a copy/paste of exactly what the goverment can do once they declare an Emergency:

“Under the powers delegated by such statutes, the President may seize property, organize and control the means of production, seize commodities, assign military forces abroad, institute martial law, seize and control all transportation and communication, regulate the operation of private enterprise, restrict travel, and, in a variety of ways, control the lives of United States citizens. ”

Phoenix Pastor Draws Protests After Telling Church He Prays for Obama’s Death

“A Phoenix-area pastor has started to draw protesters to his congregation after he delivered a sermon titled, “Why I Hate Barack Obama,” and told his parishioners that he prays for President Obama’s death.

Pastor Steven Anderson stood by his sermon in an interview with MyFOXPhoenix, which reports that the pastor continues to encourage his parishioners to join him in praying for the president’s death.

“I hope that God strikes Barack Obama with brain cancer so he can die like Ted Kennedy and I hope it happens today,” he told MyFOXPhoenix on Sunday. He called his message “spiritual warfare” and said he does not condone killing. ”

… “I’m gonna pray that he dies and goes to hell when I go to bed tonight. That’s what I’m gonna pray,” he told his congregation. ”

  38. jrinNC Says:

Obama’s H1N1 Emergency Declaration: Is Martial Law Unfolding?

    http://www.oilforimmigration.org/

“Obama has declared a 2009 H1N1 swine flu a national emergency. It is not clear if this declaration falls under the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601–1651). The act is not mentioned in media reports.

The National Emergencies Act was passed in 1976. It has been extended six times. In 2007, the declaration was strengthened with the issuance of National Security Presidential Directive 51 (NSPD-51) which gave the president the authority to do whatever he deems necessary in a vaguely defined “catastrophic emergency” including everything from canceling elections to suspending the Constitution.

NSPD-51 (National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive) is unconstitutional. It was created on May 4, 2007, as a “presidential directive” (bypassing Congress) and signed by George W. Bush. It claims the power to execute procedures for continuity of the federal government in the event of a “catastrophic emergency.” Such an emergency is construed as “any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions.”

In other words, it is a martial law directive. On May 10, 2007, The Washington Post characterized NSPD-51 is a “shadow government” directive.

The John Warner National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2007 states that the military may be used during a “national emergency.” Sec 1076 is extremely explicit, notes Michel Chossudovsky, and “virtually creates a Pinochet style environment for the mass arrest of political dissidents without trial, the storming of public rallies, etc.”

NDAA specifically mentions “epidemic” as an excuse to declare martial law.

Prior to Warner and NSPD-51, legislation passed by the Clinton administration allowed the military to intervene in judicial and civilian law enforcement activities. In 1996, legislation was passed which allowed the military to intervene in the case of a national emergency. In 1999, Clinton’s Defense Authorization Act (DAA) extended those powers (under the 1996 legislation) by creating an “exception” to the Posse Comitatus Act, which permits the military to be involved in civilian affairs “regardless of whether there is an emergency,” according to Chossudovsky.”

‘3 in 10 Americans believe Obama foreigner’
Survey asked, ‘Was he born in United States?’

    President Obama

Three in 10 people in the United States believe President Barack Obama is a foreigner, according to a new poll from an international leader in market research who asked residents about their beliefs regarding the president’s birth place.

The survey was done by Angus Reid Global Monitor, a division of Vision Critical Group, which leverages “the world’s most advanced online research technology for interactive surveys, custom panels, private communities and virtual retail environments.”

The results of the survey, released today, said 70 percent of the respondents believe Obama was born in the U.S., “while 30 percent do not.”

“While only 13 percent of Democratic Party supporters believe Obama was not born in the U.S., the proportion rises to 25 percent among Independents and 51 percent among Republican Party backers,” the report said.

The issue is significant because while Obama secured a majority of the Electoral College votes in November 2008 to be installed as president, Article II of the U.S. Constitution establishes “that only ‘natural born’ American citizens are eligible to become presidents.”

The U.S. Constitution even provides that if an elected president is not qualified for the office, the vice president shall stand in for him until he is qualified.

“Last year, the Obama campaign team released a Certification of Live Birth, which states that Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Aug. 4, 1961. The state of Hawaii only allows for the release of an original birth certificate under ‘extenuating circumstances,'” the survey report said.

Reports of Obama’s long lost thesis debunked
Future president allegedly called Constitution ‘shackles of hypocrisy’
    ——————————————————————————–

The blogosphere was abuzz today with reports that Barack Obama’s undergraduate thesis from Columbia University – in which he allegedly called free market capitalism “tyranny” and slammed the Constitution for fitting Americans with “shackles of hypocrisy” – has been revealed.

Only, the reported source of the document, Joe Klein of Time magazine, has publicly declared the whole thing a hoax.

“A report is circulating among the wingnuts that I had a peek at Barack Obama’s senior thesis,” Klein writes on Time’s Swampland blog site. “It is completely false. I’ve never seen Obama’s thesis. I have no idea where this report comes from – but I can assure you that it’s complete nonsense.”

According to dozens of blog posts, which quoted other blog posts, which in turn quoted back to Brian Lancaster of the Jumping in Pools blog, the White House had released 10 pages of Obama’s 44-page thesis, entitled “Aristocracy Reborn” to Klein for an upcoming special report in Time.

Some of the juicy details added to the story included paragraph-long quotes from the thesis where Obama allegedly criticizes America’s “so-called Founding Fathers” for not doing enough to redistribute wealth.

“While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty,” the thesis supposedly states, “it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy.”

Obama was even reported to have received an A- grade on the paper.

But the entire story, it appears, was originally meant as satire.

Further WND research into the Jumping in Pools blog site shows the original report detailing the thesis was posted on Aug. 25, 2009, and is now archived in the satire section, alongside fictitious stories about rapper Kayne West’s “gluten overdose,” the loss of Obama’s original birth certificate in a 1972 house fire and the president’s plan to extinguish the eternal flame at the Tomb of the Unknowns to save 200 tons of carbon emissions per year.

Nonetheless, many blogs and websites picked up the report as fact over the past few days, prompting Klein to issue his refutation of the story.

Even radio host Rush Limbaugh got sucked into the controversy, talking about the thesis earlier in his program today, before his staff was also able to determine the blog report was meant as satire.

Limbaugh clarified on the air that the quotes were not accurate, but after being widely misquoted himself as part of his controversial bid to purchase an NFL team, Limbaugh took the opportunity to comment:

“I have had this happen to me recently,” he said. “I have had quotes attributed to me that were made up, and when it was pointed out to the media that the quotes were made up, they said, ‘It doesn’t matter! We know Limbaugh thinks it anyway.'”

He continued, “I’m also told that the blog containing the passage on Obama’s thesis is a satire blog. … So I shout from the mountaintops, ‘It was satire!’ But we know he thinks it. Good comedy, to be comedy, must contain an element of truth, and we know how he feels about distribution of wealth. He’s mad at the courts for not going far enough on it. So we stand by the fabricated quote because we know Obama thinks it anyway. That’s how it works in the media today.”

Less than 1% of deaths have occurred from Swine Flu in US thus far, as opposed to nation’s seasonal national flu numbers
    by DefendUSx October 24, 2009 17:41

So far, it has been reported that 1000 deaths in the US have resulted from H1N1 (and even that number is likely inflated).

The average number of deaths from regular/seasonal flu is 36,000.

    36000/1000 gives you .027%

In other words, less than half a percent have died so far than the national average for the seasonal flu.

Texas Doctor “We’ve been advised to diagnose anyone with flu symptoms with Swine Flu.” Full Story Inside
    by DefendUSx October 24, 2009 17:18

    From Blogsphere:

A close friend is 8 months pregnant and found out her co-worker was taking her son to the doctor after he came down with the flu. Many of his classmates had supposedly already been diagnosed with Swine Flu, so she was naturally worried, as was my pregnant friend. This is in Central Texas.

The co-worker called to say that yes, the doctor said her son had Swine Flu and the entire family had been given Tamiflu, and the doctor advised everyone she had been in contact with to get some Tamiflu because, “Everyone you’ve been in contact with will have contracted it.” The lady asked the doctor how he knew her son had Swine Flu vs. seasonal flu since he didn’t send the sample off to the CDC and to her supprise the doctor said, “We’ve been advised to diagnose everyone with flu symptoms with Swine Flu as a precaution, because it’s too early for the regular flu season.”

Has anyone heard this yet? Diagnosing everyone with Swine Flu just because they have flu symptoms is a HUGE problem, especially considering the fact that we are ALREADY IN a pandemic 6 situation.

President Obama declares national emergency over swine flu pandemic, but why?
    by DefendUSx October 24, 2009 17:09

    Mike Adams
    NaturalNews
    October 24, 2009

According to the CDC, swine flu infections have already peaked, and the pandemic is on its way out. Peak infection time was the middle of October, where one in five U.S. children experienced the flu, says the CDC. Out of nearly 14,000 suspected flu cases tested during the week ending on October 10, 2009, 99.6% of those were influenza A, and the vast majority of those were confirmed as H1N1 swine flu infections. (http / / www cdc.gov/flu/weekly/)

Your rights as an American are no longer recognized under this national emergency declaration.

Even though the H1N1 pandemic appears to have peaked out, U.S. President Barack Obama has now declared a national emergency over swine flu infections. The reasoning behind such a declaration? According to the White House, it’s designed to “allow hospitals to better handle the surge in patients” by allowing them to bypass certain federal laws.

I agree with the Monster: there are several simmering and deliberate distractions going on intended to focus our attention away from:

*Health insurance reform (cough, gag…making me sick already…)
*The Global Climate Change Treaty (aka, RUST, the ‘remove US sovereignty treaty’), which will effect the sovereignty of the United States in many ways,
    Obama’s sinking poll numbers
Obama and Congress’ anti-American agenda and efforts to undermine the Constitution,
*The American people’s growing awareness of and concern about the Congress, the Executive and all of the above
*Internal chaos within the White House regarding Afghanistan.
In my view, the real issue is the Global Climate Change Treaty, health insurance, and the last item, our awareness of the whole scam of Congress and Obama. The internal chaos within the White House, and between the White House and the military deserves its own post as it signals something but I’m not quite sure what yet.

But Republicans on Sunday argued that a troop-heavy counterinsurgency strategy, as advocated by McChrystal, is already based on the assumption that the government is unstable.

“When you’re talking about a country like Afghanistan, you don’t have a perfect government,” Kyl said. “That’s why you have to have a counterinsurgency policy. The populace can’t be protected by their own government.”

He expressed support for a “hybrid” strategy that Obama reportedly is considering. Such a strategy would demand more troops but also focus on the use of drones and special operations forces to take out top Al Qaeda members.

The Republicans, though, declined to back up former Vice President Dick Cheney’s accusation last week that the president is “dithering.”

“I wouldn’t use that language,” McCain said.

(a “hybrid” strategy – it doesn’t matter what you call it, if we don’t have enough troops to get the job done as quickly as possible, it will mean more bloodshed on both sides. How can we ask our fighting men and women to risk life and limb if we’re not going to give them the best possible chance to come home someday?)

Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska likes Carper’s state opt-in

    (This is good news.)

In a separate story, The Associated Press reports that Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., “says he is not excited about a public insurance plan in which states would be able to ‘opt out.’ Instead, the Nebraska senator says he is more interested in a program in which states ‘opt in.’ … Nelson appeared Sunday on CNN’s ‘State of the Union.'”

Nelson open to trimmed-down public option approach

    http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5ijxwEbuch85k7ypM_T9WuzecohRwD9BI5NS80

A key Democratic senator says he may be open to a government-run insurance program that allows states to participate only if they ask to participate.

Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska says he is not ready to commit definitively on the most controversial issue surrounding health care overhaul legislation, whether to set up a nationwide public health insurance program to compete with private insurers.

Nelson says he is not excited about a public insurance plan in which states would be able to “opt out.” Instead, the Nebraska senator says he is more interested in a program in which states “opt in.”

Democrats need 60 votes to advance the health care bill in the Senate.

Nelson appeared Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

(Beware of “Sneaky Bastard” Schumer’s state opt-out! Carper’s state opt-in a much better idea. Questions – Would there be a trigger? If so, a trigger for what – govt-run or coops, or both?)

    Carper quietly devises third option

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27778.html#ixzz0SgfFSoVa

Carper is emerging as a backroom mediator on the most divisive element of the health care overhaul, proposing a so-called third way that several key senators said Wednesday could provide the blueprint for compromise in the Senate bill.

Carper wants to allow states to individually decide whether to create a private-insurance competitor such as

a government plan and a nonprofit insurance cooperative, or

to open up state-based insurance pools for government workers to every resident.

It could appeal to Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), who has endorsed a similar trigger approach, while bringing in progressives who may not see a way – at this point – to pass a bill through the Senate with a public option.

(I’m pretty sure Carper’s compromise has a trigger similar to Snowe’s trigger.)

(Snowe’s original proposal called for the public option to trigger if, after accounting for subsidies, there weren’t two or more options available to 95 percent of residents at less than “3 percent of [adjusted gross income] at 133 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, to 13 percent at 300 percent and above.”)

(I just don’t see Schumer’s state opt-out getting 60 votes. Reid, Pelosi and Obama know that. And they know that whatever comes out of that back room has to be able to muster 60 votes. Because it will be nearly impossible to add-on or take away from whatever they come up with.)

  129. rosettasister Says:

“Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union with John King, Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch said that he believes Democrats will implement a public option of some kind if they get enough votes to break cloture in an upcoming Senate floor vote. …

Hatch is adamantly opposed to the idea, arguing that Medicare and Medicaid are badly run”

  130. rosettasister Says:

Republicans Stand Firm on Public Option Resistance, Despite Emergence of Compromise Plans

The unyielding resistance ensures that Republicans will keep health care reform complaints in their arsenal for the 2010 elections and beyond. At the same time, they run the risk of reinforcing their image among critics as the “Party of No.”

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/25/republicans-hold-firm-public-option-resistance/

Democrats, though, are still in a heated debate over which version they prefer.

Conservative Democrats prefer the “opt in” approach, which presumably would keep states from encountering any problems trying to get out of the public plan. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., expressed interest in that idea Sunday.

Democratic strategist Bob Beckel said the “trigger” option, which President Obama is said to favor, seems likely to prevail.

But while some Democrats believe that a compromise public option that attracts conservative Democrats could in turn attract Republican supporters, moderate Republicans aren’t yet warming to the idea.

Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, the only Senate Republican to endorse any version of health care reform to date, has said she won’t accept anything except a “trigger” plan.

If Republicans lock arms in symbolic protest to health care reform in any form, Democrats are predicting a third straight electoral backlash.

“I think that in 2010 what’s helping us is that the Republican Party doesn’t seem to have any platform at all,” Schumer said. “When health care passes it’s going to improve. … I think you’ll see in 2010 we’re going to do pretty well, aided and abetted by no alternative.”

(I never thought I would utter these words, but I hope Bob Beckel is right!)

  131. Katie Says:

Because we all need a little chuckle now and then. I just got this in an email 🙂

    *Old Butch*

John was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young layers (hens), called ‘pullets,’ and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs. He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced.

This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing.

Now, he could sit on the porch And fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. John’s favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch’s bell hadn’t rung at all!

When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, could run for cover.

To John’s amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn’t ring. He’d sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one.

John was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the Renfrew County Fair and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.

The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the No Bell Piece Prize but they also awarded him the Pulletsurprise as well.

Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren’t paying attention.

Vote carefully next year, the bells are not always audible.

    STATE REPRESENTATIVE RAPPAPORT’S RESPONSE

    Dear Mr. Garneau,

I have an appointment with the New Hampshire Attorney General (AG) on Tuesday [27 October] at 3 pm. So far as I know, nothing has been done.

I called Attorney General Jim Kennedy who I thought was supposed to handle this matter, but he was out and did not return my call.

I will relate that to the AG on Tuesday [27 October]. My discussion with the AG will center around two matters, one of them is a private matter raised by one of my constituents and the other is Mr. Obama’s eligibility to be President.

I plan to raise these issues:

    1. I have birth copies of two birth certificates which purport to be from Kenya. Are they genuine?

    2. The Supreme Court ruled in the early 1800’s that a natural born citizen was one with two birth parents, both of whom held American citizenship. The same criteria was held up in 2008 when eligibility of Mr. McCain was questioned by Congress. Mr. Obama, in his book, states that his father was Kenyan.

    3. Mr. Obama traveled to Pakistan some years ago when Pakistan was on our enemies list and travel was forbidden. Which passport did he use?

    4. Mr. Obama attended school in Indonesia which claimed to admit ONLY Indonesians and NO foreigners. Was Mr. Obama Indonesian?

    5. Mr. Obama has used multiple social security numbers.

If any of the above are true, then it is my belief that fraud was committed upon the voters of New Hampshire.

So far as the other issues you have raised, I have no answer. I can only continue to assert the charges to the proper authorities. I have done so and I will continue to do so.

My day as been very full as I was “RE-BAPTIZED” this morning at church. We had a total of 5 to be baptized with 3 being re-baptized to reaffirm our faith and commitment to Christ. I was 8 yrs old when baptized the first time and while I do remember it, felt I needed the reaffirmation of that commitment.

But something awful happened at the church yesterday – someone filled the baptismal pool and forgot to turn the water off. The church was flooded when they went back that evening to check on things. Thank goodness ServPro was able to clean up all the damage. But now we have to have new carpet put in before next Sunday. It was beginning to smell just a tad from all the water damage.

President Obama’s school age daughters have not been vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says the vaccine is not available to them based on their risk.

The Centers for Disease Control recommend that children ages 6 months through 18 years of age receive a vaccination against the H1N1 flu virus. At this time only children with chronic medical conditions are receiving the vaccination because their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the strain. The CDC also says a regular seasonal flu shot does not protect against the virus.

AP sources: Bill likely to cut employer mandate

Businesses would not be required to provide health insurance under legislation being readied for Senate debate, but large firms would owe significant penalties if any worker needed government subsidies to buy coverage on their own, according to Democratic officials familiar with talks on the bill.

For firms with more than 50 employees, the fee could be as high as $750 multiplied by the total size of the work force if only a few workers needed federal aid, these officials said. That is a more stringent penalty than in a bill that recently cleared the Senate Finance Committee, which said companies should face penalties on a per-employee basis.

These officials also said individuals would generally be required to purchase affordable insurance if it were available, and face penalties if they defied the requirement.

Liberty Summit called for Dec. 15-16
October 26, 2009 by John Charlton

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF PRO-CONSTITUTIONAL ORGS TO DISCUSS NATIONAL CRISIS
    by John Charlton

(Oct. 26, 2006) — The nationally recognized Oath Keepers has teamed up with the 9-12 project to organize and host a National Liberty Summit, to be held in Washington, D.C., on the Anniversaries of the ratification of the Bill of Rights (Dec. 15th) and of the original Boston Tea Party (Dec. 16th).

    Oath Keepers describes itself thus:

Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving military, veterans, peace officers, and firefighters who will fulfill the oath we swore to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God.

The Oath Keepers’ website explains the purpose of this Convention:

With this summit, we will be calling on the national leadership of all Constitutionalist/liberty organizations across the nation to set aside any differences and come together, on the anniversaries of the ratification of our Bill of Rights and of the Boston Tea Party, to join together, and work together to preserve our Republic. And this will indeed be a working summit, designed so the national leadership of all the many diverse groups can meet eye to eye and form a working alliance at both the national and state level, right down to working together in each county, to preserve what we can all agree on, what we all have in common – our Constitution and Bill of Rights. And once those groups come together, they need to stay together, and help each other to address the many urgent and pressing problems we face, restoring the Republic from the ground up, from the county up. That’s what it’s going to take.

    Then then give this exhortation:

Our liberty, our independence, was won by men and women who set aside their differences and united in a common cause. As expressed by Benjamin Franklin’s famous 1754 print, they knew they must “Join or Die.”

We must do the same. We must join together. To win our liberty and independence, the founding generation fought a desperate revolution against the world super-power of their time. Many of them paid the ultimate price in that struggle. As John Quincey Adams said many years later:

Posterity: you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it.

We must “make good use of it” by using our freedom of association, speech, and assembly to unite in that same cause of defending liberty.

In every generation since the founding all too many young men have laid down their lives to preserve this Republic. They kept their oaths. We owe it to all of them – we are duty bound – to also keep our oaths by supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States to the utmost of our ability.

We must act as they would act, and as they would expect us to act. And that means coming together and acting with integrity, mutual respect, good will, honor, courage, a sense of duty, and with sincere devotion to the Constitution and Bill of Rights that so many gave all to preserve.

This convention will be for the leadership in pro-Constitutional groups: to plan a meeting in April for a National Assembly of all the members of all participating groups, April 16-18; which will occur between a Tea-Party Tax Protest on April 15th, and a Second Amendment protest on April 19th. Read more here. Organizations which wish to participate can contact Oath Keepers through their site.

Another Attempted “Honor” Killing in Peoria, Arizona

    http://www.kpho.com/news/21416474/detail.html

The family of a young woman run over in a Peoria parking lot is speaking out for the first time since Tuesday’s accident outside
    Department of Economic Security building.

“I just never thought something like this could happen,” said Peter-Ali Almaleki, whose sister is still hospitalized, fighting for her life.

Peoria police said Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, ran over his daughter Noor Almaleki, 20, and her friend, Amal Edan Khalef, a 43-year-old Surprise resident, as they walked out of the building at 89th and Peoria avenues.

    ***

Noor Almaleki is still unconscious, he said. “She’s moving around a little but they think it’s spontaneous movement,” Peter-Ali Almaleki said.

He said his sister has undergone spinal surgery but there’s a chance she may never recover.

“It’s hurt my mom more than anybody,” he said.

    ***

Even though he doesn’t know where his father is, he said the family has heard from him.

“He did call yesterday to ask how she was and my mom yelled at him and hung up,” he said.

Police said Faleh Almaleki drove away from the scene Tuesday in a gray or silver 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with license plate No. ADS-9192.

Her friend was able to communicate following the incident, but there’s no word on her condition.

Considering that amnesty for illegals is on the front burner for Obama, there’s no doubt the White House is keeping an eye on this issue.

Unfazed, half a day after the announcement of the orders from Washington, Sheriff Arpaio carried out another planned sweep. They arrested 66 people – 30 were illegal aliens, arrested as suspects in human trafficking. They also raided a car wash.

He says he still has the authority to arrest illegals under a state smuggling law and that federal law gives local police limited power to detain suspected illegal aliens. He also wants a state trespassing law passed so illegals can be picked up under state law.

Congress tiring of reading the White House’s tea leaves on the public option

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2009/10/congress_tiring_of_reading_the.html

I’m also hearing a lot of irritation from congressional Democrats at the mixed signals being sent by the White House.

If the White House wants to advocate for the trigger, fine.

If the White House wants to advocate for the public option, fine.

But for the White House to host one meeting where they signal that they’re uncomfortable with Reid’s decision to push the envelope on the public option and then make a big effort to walk that meeting back after the left gets angry is confusing everybody.

No one wants to be left in the cold here.

If the public option is going to pass, plenty of people want to be seen as its champions.

If it’s going to fail, others want to be out ahead of that failure.

Politicians need to know whether to begin managing the disappointment of their base or amping up their expectations.

But since the administration is considered the most important actor here, no one knows quite how to structure their strategy so long as the White House refuses to fully show its cards.

(I once wrote that Obama had settled on Snowe’s trigger a long time ago. I hope I was right. And I keep hearing Carper’s Compromise is a state opt-out. No, it is not. It is a state opt-in. Big difference there. And I heard Snowe repeat she won’t vote yes unless there’s a trigger.)

Galleon Wiretaps Rattle Hedge Funds as Insider Trading Targeted

By Katherine Burton and David Glovin

Oct. 26 (Bloomberg) — First came the biggest bear market since the 1930s, then Bernard Madoff’s $65 billion Ponzi scheme and the threat of increased regulation. Now hedge funds have a new concern: getting caught on tape as the government expands its use of wiretaps to ferret out insider trading.

Prosecutors, using secretly recorded phone conversations for the first time against hedge funds, alleged Oct. 16 that billionaire Raj Rajaratnam and five others made $20 million by swapping material inside information on companies such as Hilton Hotels Corp. and Google Inc. They may charge at least 10 more people soon, people familiar with the matter said last week.

Rajaratnam, founder of New York-based Galleon Group LLC, regularly talked to hundreds of contacts, including other traders, according to people who know him. His arrest rattled hedge-fund managers, who are questioning whether legitimate discussions caught on the tapped lines will draw scrutiny, say lawyers who’ve fielded such queries. A broader worry: whose phones are being monitored as prosecutors and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission continue their probes?

They (Reid and other Dems) are pressuring Nelson

*** to filibuster the procedural motion to move forward on health care debate, suggesting a vote for what is known as cloture is a violation of the pledge. ***

And Nelson is not the only Dem being pressured.

My understanding (which is limited) is that there will be two cloture votes in the Senate.

Some dishonest Dems will try and get away with voting for “cloture” which requires 60 votes and then voting “nay” on final passage which only requires 50 votes.

    Reid Moves on Public Option

    http://congress.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/10/26/reid-moves-on-public-option/

Some senior Dem aides in leadership have said the whip count (aka: vote count) has varied from 56-58 votes for cloture to start debate on the bill. That’s key — Reid wants to get cloture, for which he needs 60 votes, to proceed with debate — even if one of his Dems cant support what’s in the actual bill.

All eyes are on the mods, then — among them: Ben Nelson, Joe Lieberman, Evan Bayh, Blanche Lincoln, and some of the moderate freshmen, though it’s very hard to see them defying their leadership so early in the game.

“Reid wants to get cloture, for which he needs 60 votes, to proceed with debate”

I may be wrong, but I believe there are two cloture votes, one to proceed with debate and one to end debate?

So even if the 1st cloture vote goes Reid’s way, there will still be one more chance to stop Reid getting the 60 votes he needs.

But if he gets to 60 on both cloture votes, then he’ll only need to get to 50 on final passage.

    I think.

I’ll see if I can find out more about it.

HH: Now Senator McConnell, this audience, at least, and I think generally in the United States, are very aware of the cloture vote. They believe that is the vote. I believe that’s the vote. I believe this is a lost cause if they get sixty votes.

MM: Well, there’ll be two. There’ll be cloture on motion to get on the bill, and then there’ll be cloture on the, you know, to get off the bill. So there’ll be two opportunities at a minimum for the majority to demonstrate they can produce sixty.

Reid to announce a public option?

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2009/10/reid_to_announce_a_public_opti.html

This accomplishes two things for Reid.

First, as Frates’s unnamed lobbyist points out, he can lose this vote but credibly claim that he went to bat for a pretty good compromise on the public option.

Second, it creates consequences for those who want to vote against the public option.

Rather than killing the proposal in a back room,

*** moderates who won’t vote for cloture will actually have to vote against cloture. *** (Exactly!)

That makes them a target in their next election, and ensures a lot of harassment from the left.

Reid is, in other words, making it harder — not impossible, but harder — for them to oppose the public option.

Procedurally, it’s a big win for public option advocates.

McConnell: Americans oppose health bill even without public option

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/64807-mcconnell-hits-core-of-senate-healthcare-proposal

McConnell said that the public “clearly does not like, and doesn’t support” the “core” of the finalized healthcare bill revealed today.

“So, wholly aside from the debate over whether the government gets into the insurance business, the core of the proposal is a bill that the American public clearly does not like, and doesn’t support,” he said.

“While final details of this bill are still unknown, here’s what we do know:

It will be a thousand-page, trillion-dollar bill that raises premiums, raises taxes and slashes Medicare for our seniors to create new government spending programs. That’s not reform,” he added.

(It would seem some Repubs still believe HCR won’t pass this year. I would prefer to go back to the drawing board, but I doubt that will happen. My gut is telling me that even Reid doesn’t expect what he put forth today to be in the final bill. But the Dems have the votes to get something passed, and so something will pass. And Repubs need to be more specific in their opposition. Just say NO to a state OPT-OUT public option! And they need to get their base fired up again!)

The Nevada Democrat has 3:15 p.m. press conference to discuss details.

Reid, who spoke with virtually every member of his 60-member caucus this weekend, currently has between 56 and 57 votes for a proposal to create a national insurance plan but allow states to opt out of it, according to Democratic aides.

A public option with a “trigger” – supported by the White House and Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) – has between 58 and 59 backers.

    http://legalinsurrection.blogspot.com/2009/10/harry-reid-i-have-nothing-to-announce.html

Harry Reid just completed his press conference in which he committed to pushing a “public option” through the Senate. What form of public option? The Opt-Out form.

What is the Opt-Out form? Let’s see what the legislative language says.

Does Reid have the votes to stop a filibuster? He would not say, except he did acknowledge that he does not have a single Republican on board. So he will need every single Democratic Senator to vote for cloture. Reid evaded a question as to whether he had the Democratic votes for cloture to move the bill to the floor.

Reid is sending the bill to the Congressional Budget Office for cost scoring. He will then use that score to lobby Senators, including Republican Olympia Snowe.

In other words, Reid has nothing. Not enough votes for cloture at this point. No cost estimates.

Only a hope and a prayer that the CBO score will be favorable, and allow him to move a bill to the floor.

CNN Falls to Last Place in Cable News
    David Sessions, Contributor – 10/26/09

When the October cable news ratings are finalized Monday afternoon, CNN will finish fourth and last place for the first time, the New York Times‘ Media Decoder blog reports. The network that pioneered the 24-hour news format has trailed the Fox News Channel and MSNBC before, but is now also being beaten by its sister network, CNN Headline News.

For the first time, MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” beat CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360″ in the 8 p.m. time slot, and Sean Hannity’s and Rachel Maddow’s programs both finished solidly ahead of “Larry King Live” in the later primetime hours.

CNN said that it still attracts the most viewers when all hours of the day are considered, and that it is no surprise that viewers turn to more partisan programming in the primetime hours. “CNN’s ratings are always going to be more dependent on the news environment, much more so that opinion-based programming especially in prime time,” the network said in a statement.

Why boys are turning into girls.

Gender-bending chemicals are largely exempt from new EU regulations, warns Geoffrey Lean.

Girls will be girls and boys will be girls: everyday ‘gender-bending’ chemicals are feminising increasing numbers of babies

Here’s something rather rotten from the State of Denmark. Its government yesterday unveiled official research showing that two-year-old children are at risk from a bewildering array of gender-bending chemicals in such everyday items as waterproof clothes, rubber boots, bed linen, food, nappies, sunscreen lotion and moisturising cream.

The 326-page report, published by the environment protection agency, is the latest piece in an increasingly alarming jigsaw. A picture is emerging of ubiquitous chemical contamination driving down sperm counts and feminising male children all over the developed world. And anti-pollution measures and regulations are falling far short of getting to grips with it.

Sperm counts are falling so fast that young men are less fertile than their fathers and produce only a third as much, proportionately, as hamsters. And gender-bending chemicals are increasingly being blamed for the mystery of the “lost boys”: babies who should normally be male who have been born as girls instead.

Gallup Poll: Conservatives Most Dominant Political Group Among Americans

Political conservatives continue to outnumber moderates and liberals, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.

Forty percent of Americans surveyed described their political ideology as conservative, while 36 percent said their views are moderate and 20 percent said liberal, the poll found.

The findings reportedly mark a shift from 2005 to 2008, when the number of moderates was even with conservatives as the most dominant group.

The results, based on 16 Gallup surveys conducted from January to September 2009, also show a greater number of Americans who express conservative positions on specific issues when compared to findings from 2008.

The survey found that 45 percent of Americans said there is too much government regulation of business and industry when asked in September — an increase from 38 percent in September 2008. A higher percentage of Americans — 42 percent — also said labor unions should have less influence — a 10-point jump from August 2008.

The poll, which surveyed 16,321 adults, had a margin of error of 1 percentage point. Respondents were interviewed on land-line telephones and cellular phones.

Russia to Sell 20-50 tons of Gold in 2009 – Sale as much as 1.25% of annual world gold consumption

    via Solari.com

    By Polina Devitt

Russia plans to sell as much as 50 tonnes of gold this year to help plug a budget deficit in the first major bullion sale by its precious metals repository since the fall of the Soviet Union, a high level source told Reuters.

The sales from Russia’s State Precious Metals and Gems Repository (Gokhran) could account for 0.5 to 1.25 percent of global consumption of the metal, which soared in price to a record of $1,070.40 per ounce on Oct.14.

“More than 20 tonnes, but less than 50 tonnes of gold will be supplied this year,” the source familiar with the matter said on Friday, adding that the sale was intended to increase state budget revenues.

The source said the sale would be the first major gold sale by Gokhran since the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union, which kept a veil of secrecy over its sometimes significant foreign sales of gems and precious metals.

    The Washington Examiner reported:

Vice President Joe Biden’s favorable rating has fallen to 42 percent in a new Gallup poll, down from a high of 59 percent just after last year’s election. Biden’s unfavorable rating in the new poll is 40 percent, up from 29 percent last November. (Eighteen percent of those surveyed say they have no opinion of Biden.)

Biden’s average favorable rating during his time in office so far is 45 percent — well below the average 65 percent favorable rating for Vice President Dick Cheney during Cheney’s first year in office. Vice President Al Gore’s favorable rating during his first year, 55 percent, was also higher than Biden’s. (Gallup did not measure vice presidential popularity before Gore.)

Biden’s rating has fallen most dramatically among independents. Last November, 55 percent of them had a favorable impression of Biden. Now, it’s 32 percent. Biden’s favorable rating among Democrats is 73 percent, down from 88 percent last December, and among Republicans it is 18 percent, down from 33 percent last year.

Just for the record, Meyers-Briggs is excellent. I studied the system heavily in the 90’s. Of course there are no wrong answers or bad results. It helped me understand myself and accept others quite a bit better. I’m an ENTJ, but live a lifestyle of a P which is a major source of stress in my life. If anyone has any question about the system, I may be able to help. The four major personality categories are SJ, SP, NT & NF. The first letter determines your source of energy; the second, how you collect data; the third, how you make decisions, and; fourth, your lifestyle preference. It is important to recognize that being a T doesn’t mean you don’t feel and vice versa. It just means you are more likely to make a decision on logic rather than a gut feel. the 2nd letter (decision preference) is the only one that has a gender bias, men 60/40 T and women 60/40 F. E & I are split 50/50 in society. S & N are split 70/30 respectively…70% of people are detail data collectors where 30% take it in a big picture. Judging and Perceptive always struck me as strange terms to distinguished a structured lifestyle from a more open/flexible lifestyle. J & P are also split 50/50 in society btw. In case you were not aware, this whole system is a refinement of Carl Jung’s work.

Between now and Sunday, I will be travelling around Colorado speaking to groups, listening to concerns and trying to raise some funds to cover the costs for CC2009. Kudos to Katie for putting the word out for financial support.

We may assume then, that it is liberals who want a “better” name for a public option that will indeed be paid for with public dollars if you are honest enough to include subsidies paid for by tax payers in your definition of “public dollars.”

Perhaps Pelosi doesn’t see taxpayer dollars as public money.

Burr is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Select Committee on Intelligence.

“Gen. McChrystal believes that as we bring more Afghan army and Afghan special police on that it requires additional U.S. personnel to handle the logistics, to handle the intelligence, to do the supervisory role to be able to let the Afghans be the tip of the spear,” Burr said.

WSJ/NBC News Poll: Public Attitudes on the Public Option

    http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/10/27/wsjnbc-news-poll-public-attitudes-on-the-public-option/

While Americans overwhelming said they should have a choice in the matter, asked whether they favor or oppose the create of a public option to compete with private industry, the response was more divided.

Nearly half, 48%, said they support the public option while 42% said they oppose it. Those numbers aren’t radically different from the August WSJ/NBC News poll, in which 46% favored and 48% opposed—but it could suggest support for the public option is growing while opposition is softening.

(I fail to understand how one can achieve these results when poll after poll suggests Americans oppose “ObamaCare.”)

    Health Care Reform

57% Say Health Care Plan Will Increase Costs, 53% Say It Will Reduce Quality of Care, 45% Favor Passage

    45% Yes
    51% No

    Oct 16-17

Most Americans still do NOT favor HCR passage, but most Americans favor a public option? This makes no sense.

Lieberman: Sure, I’d Filibuster A Health Care Reform Bill

    http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/10/lieberman-sure-id-filibuster-a-health-care-reform-bill.php

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) told reporters today that he would in fact filibuster any health care bill he doesn’t agree with–and right now, he doesn’t agree with the proposal making its way through the Senate.

“I told Senator Reid that I’m strongly inclined–i haven’t totally decided, but I’m strongly inclined–to vote to proceed to the health care debate, even though I don’t support the bill that he’s bringing together because it’s important that we start the debate on health care reform because I want to vote for health care reform this year.

But I also told him that if the bill remains what it is now, I will not be able to support a cloture motion before final passage.

(I think Lieberman is saying he will vote for cloture to begin debate. But if bill remains as is, he will vote against cloture to end debate. Reid needs to get to 60 on both votes.)

Therefore I will try to stop the passage of the bill.”

  308. rosettasister Says:

    Good summary here:

    ObamaCare: Reid’s public option gamble

    http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2009/10/27/obamacare-reids-public-option-gamble/

    Bayh, Nelson, Lincoln, Lieberman

Although Chris Bowers hears that Bayh is a solid vote for cloture, Bayh has suggested he might filibuster, though maybe not now.

Ben Nelson supposedly opposes the idea of a national public option with an opt-out for the states.

Both Bayh and Nelson have each received more than $470,000 from the health insurance industry since 2006.

And Lincoln has not committed to vote to bring Reid’s proposal to the floor.

Any one of these Senators could scotch Reid’s proposal after the CBO scores it — and may cite reasons other than the public option for doing so, at least for public consumption

(though I doubt a lone Senator would do this; it’s more likely if two or three of them choose this course of action).

It would be like Sen. Joe Lieberman saying his concern about the Senate bill is based on the deficit — not the insurers that dominate his state.

  309. rosettasister Says:

    Senate Health Update

    http://newstalkradiowhio.com/blogs/jamie_dupree/2009/10/senate-health-update.html

It’s a busy day in the hallways off the Senate Chamber, as it’s become clear that Sen. Harry Reid does not have 60 votes right now for a health reform bill with a public insurance option.

First, two GOP Senators who Democrats have talked about possibly supporting health reform made clear today that they are not on board.

Both Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) expressed their disappointment with Reid’s decision to include a public option in an emerging Senate health reform bill.

Meanwhile, reporters besieged Democrats who have been on the fence about reform legislation to see where they stand on Reid’s plan.

Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) said he was inclined to allow debate to begin on health reform, but was non-committal about whether he would support a bill with a public option.

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) also said he wants specifics. He has opposed a public option, saying it cannot get 60 votes in the Senate.

*** Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) would not say if she would support Reid on a cloture vote to start debate on health reform, or if she was okay with a public option in the bill. ***

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) also was looking for more details, as he again seemed less than supportive of a public option idea.

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) said he had told Reid he would support cloture to begin debate on a health reform bill, but that if a public option remains in the bill, he would not join a move to force final action.

Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) told reporters he wasn’t so worried about the public option idea, but rather the overall question of whether these health reform plans would run up the deficit, something Lieberman is also worried about.

Bayh indicated that if he was dissatisfied with the bill, then he would not be likely to go along with efforts to invoke cloture and end debate on a health reform measure.

So, boil all that down from the hallways, and – right now at least – Democrats don’t have 60 votes on health reform in the Senate.

Russia is offering to modernize Cuba’s deteriorating weapons systems – installed when the former Soviet Union was expanding worldwide – and it also wants to reactivate a sensitive electronic eavesdropping station on the nearby island at Lourdes, use Cuba as a base to refuel its bombers and a port to replenish supplies on its warships, according to a report from Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

These developments emerged following the visit to Cuba in late September by Gen. Nikolai Makarov, chief of the Russian General Staff. Makarov met with Cuban President Raul Castro in Havana.

Cuba’s Soviet-made military equipment has been falling apart. After an assessment, the Russian military has decided to undertake a comprehensive modernization. In addition, the Cuban army also will receive Russian military training.

    Ex-Treasury official: Dump dollar
Wants U.S. to fund alternative for international trade

    C. Fred Bergsten

A former assistant secretary of the Treasury for international affairs is warning dollar deficits might no longer be funded by foreign nations, including China.

But C. Fred Bergsten, the former Treasury executive who is issuing the warning, goes even further, recommending the White House join with the international community in creating an alternative to the dollar for international trade, he writes in the current November/December 2009 issue of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Foreign Affairs magazine.

WND previously has reported that the plan to utilize IMF Special Drawing Rights as an alternative “one-world currency” to the dollar has been advanced by China, according to Columbia economist Robert Mundell, widely regarded as the “Father of the Euro.”

Get Jerome R. Corsi’s “America For Sale,” set to debut at No. 11 on the New York Times best-seller list.

WND has also reported the G20 summit meeting in London in April, with the full concurrence of President Obama, took an important step to create a new world currency through the IMF that is designed to replace the dollar as the world’s foreign exchange reserve currency of choice.

Point 19 of the final communiqué from the G20 summit in London April 2, specified, “We have agreed to support a general SDR which will inject $250 billion into the world economy and increase global liquidity,” taking the first steps forward to implement China’s proposal that Special Drawing Rights at the IMF should be created as a foreign exchange currency to replace the dollar.

Iran to accept nuclear fuel deal — IRAN will accept the broad framework of a UN-brokered uranium deal but wants “very important changes”, Iranian state television said overnight.

    http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,26270979-12377,00.html

    French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner

    low-enriched uranium (LEU)

Committee chairman Alaeddin Borujerdi said Iran should hand over its LEU in batches as it would help in “confidence-building” with world powers.

“We provide part of 3.5 per cent enriched uranium to the party in the deal and once we receive the 20 per cent, we give another batch of 3.5 per cent,” Mr Borujerdi was quoted as saying by ILNA news agency. “In other words not all the fuel (LEU) will be handed over in one batch.”

Iran is estimated to have 1500 kilos of LEU at its enrichment plant in the central city of Natanz, produced in defiance of three sets of UN sanctions.

Mr Kouchner said Tehran was “wasting time because now is the time for talking”.

“One day, it will be too late,” he said in Luxembourg, adding “we need answers. We have all shown a great deal of patience”.

The United States said world powers spoke yesterday of the need to maintain united pressure on Iran.

“They discussed the need for unity of the P5 plus one in our approach to the issue of Iran’s nuclear program,” US Department of State spokesman Ian Kelly.

On October 1, the six powers – Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States – held their first meeting with Iran in 15 months in a bid to allay their concerns over Tehran’s atomic program.

What’s Behind the False Flag Flu Emergency?
    by DefendUSx October 27, 2009 14:47
    Bill Sardi
    Lew Rockwell
    October 27, 2009

On Friday I stood before an audience in Phoenix, Arizona and attempted to shock them with something similar to a repeat of Orson Welles’ War Of The Worlds radio broadcast, a 1938 Halloween night radio announcement that said, in a series of news bulletins, Martians had landed on the earth. The public cowered in fear then, even when Welles announced it was just a radio drama, not reality.

The contrived crisis I created was the President of the United States had just announced a national emergency because of a massive number of deaths attributed to a fast-spreading strain of flu virus that had combined with a mortal form of flu virus. My hand was shaking as I read the announcement. People in the audience thought it was real. The audience began to squirm and wonder, before I finished my melodrama, just how they were going to return home without having to undergo forced vaccination at the airport.

They were relieved when I told them this crisis was purely fictional. I added the announcement for just such a contrived crisis was probably already programmed into the President’s teleprompter. Little did I know how true these words were to become.

To my surprise, on the afternoon of the following day (Saturday), the President of the United States had indeed declared a national emergency due to 1000 reported flu deaths, 100 of them among children. These deaths had occurred over the past eight months.

But 1000 accumulated deaths would be far fewer than the mortality figures the Centers for Disease Control distributes – estimated at 36,000 annual flu deaths. Federal health authorities lump pneumonia deaths among the elderly with flu-related deaths to falsely inflate flu mortality figures. My own guesstimate is that only about 6000 flu-related deaths actually occur each year, but even using this figure for comparison, this year’s flu outbreak appears weak. An estimated 20,000 hospitalizations have been reported since this pandemic flu strain began in March of 2009, which amounts to only about 625 hospitalizations per week spread among more than 5 thousand hospitals.

Why Doctors Threaten to Ditch Medicare Patients

Seniors Squeezed as Doctors Shun Medicare – If a proposed 21% cut in payment rates goes through in 2010, it could spark a physician boycott against new enrollees.

    by Parija B Kavilanz

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Medicare has become a scary word to the doctors at the largest private group practice in Kansas City, Mo.

It’s so scary that most physicians at Kansas City Internal Medicine, with 65% of its nearly 70,000 active patients age 65 or older, have stopped accepting walk-in Medicare enrollees, said Dr. David Wilt, an internist at the group.

Wilt and his colleagues say they are shunning the area’s growing senior population because they believe Medicare doesn’t reimburse physicians enough to cover the cost of care.

“And if Medicare further cuts its reimbursement rates, then we’ll be functioning at a loss,” said Wilt.

Wilt — and doctors with lots of senior patients — are especially troubled by a 21% cut in Medicare payments to physicians scheduled to take place in 2010. Last week, the Senate voted against stopping that cut, and more annual cuts over the next decade, from taking place.

“If the [21%] cut happens, that cut in our payments will exceed our profits. The only option to us to stay in business will be to fire employees,” Wilt said.

Physicians say a boycott against Medicare has already begun because they are tired of dealing with the yearly threat of a payment cut.

Dr. John Hagan, a Kansas City-area ophthalmologist, offers a unique perspective. “I can speak to both sides of this,” he said.

As many as 75% of patients at his group practice are Medicare beneficiaries who are treated for problems such as glaucoma or undergo cataract surgery. And if payment rates are cut 21%, after already being reduced to about half the going $1,200 rate for cataract surgery and care in Missouri, Hagan said he won’t be able to see more Medicare patients because he won’t be able to cover his expenses.

But Hagan himself became Medicare-eligible this month — and he’s nervous. “If I accept Medicare for myself and my wife, I’m fearful I won’t be able to stay with my cardiologist and my wife won’t be able to stay with her physicians,” he said.

Hagan has elected not to enroll in Medicare. Instead, he’s paying extra out of pocket for his company’s insurance coverage.

“At some point I won’t want to work,” said Hagan. “At that time, I will be on Medicare, and I am scared to death.”

House and Senate Pass “Pedophilia Protection Act” – Awaits Obama’s Signature
    by DefendUSx October 27, 2009 16:33

While you weren’t looking and were concerned about ObamaCare’s re-introduction of the “Public Option,” Afghanistan and Obama’s dithering, and Cap& Trade, the House and Senate both passed the so-called “Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act.” It was tacked on to a Defense Appropriation Bill, H.R. 2647, by the Senate and passed by a vote of 68-29 last week and now awaits Obama’s signature.

Of this bill, impeached-for-bribery former federal judge, now Congressman Alcee Hastings (D-FL) argued on the House floor all ‘alternative’ sexual lifestyles should be protected, stating:
“This bill addresses our resolve to end violence based on prejudice and to guarantee that all Americans regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability or all of these ‘philias’ and fetishes and ‘isms’ that were put forward need not live in fear because of who they are.

Rep. Steven King (R-IA), while the bill was pending in House Committee, introduced an amendment to counter Alcee Hastings’ statement and provide that pedophiles would not be able to claim the protections afforded under this bill — but, his amendment was defeated along party lines with all committee Democrats voting against such amendment.

The impact of the rejection of King’s amendment is that when a Court is reviewing this legislation, it will consider “legislative history” which clearly shows a rejection of any attempt to prevent pedophiles from claiming the bills protections, so that the Court can conclude pedophiles are protected.

The House also specifically ruled out any protections for pastors who preach from the Bible. When Obama signs this bill into law, a pastor can be held criminally liable for the actions of a parishioner who hears a Bible message on homosexuality.

With the passage of this perversion-friendly bill, I am reminded of the words of John Adams, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” John Adams must be turning over in his grave. Heaven help this country!!

5 Evil Things Credit Card Companies Can (Still) Do

The credit card reform bill tries to help cash-strapped customers, but companies are coming up with new ways to boost profits.

    by Julianee Pepitone

    THE BILL

Credit card companies are socking it to consumers left and right.

They’re hiking interest rates to as much as 36% and doubling minimum monthly payments, frustrating customers who are already cash-strapped and credit-crunched.

In an effort to curb these abusive practices, President Obama signed into law a credit card reform act in May that’s rolling out in three parts over 12 months.

At the same time, credit card companies have been hard at work coming up with new ways to boost profits while sidestepping the reforms.

“Card issuers are making sure they can make up the lost money in new ways,” said Bill Hardekopf of Lowcards.com, a research company funded by a commercial debt collector.

The first part of the law, which took effect in August, requires banks to give customers more notice ahead of major changes to their accounts, like rate hikes. Starting in February, limits will be imposed on when issuers can raise rates on existing card balances, and on new cards. In August 2010 some credit card penalty fees will be will reined in.

But no legislation can fully shield consumers from the credit card industry’s ongoing efforts to boost the bottom line.

The worst part? “All of these hikes are taking place simply because they can,” Hardekopf said.
