Irfan is a Bulgarian world music band that was founded in 2001. The band’s name is taken from the Arabic/Persian word Irfan.

Though similar in style to established bands such as Dead Can Dance, Love Is Colder Than Death, Sarband, and Vas, Irfan is known for its extensive use of a choir of male vocals in addition to the ethereal and mystic female vocals of Denitza Seraphimova in combination with an assortment of traditional medieval percussive, string and wind instruments including the darbouka, daf, bendir, oud, saz, santoor, ghaida, duduk and viola da gamba.

Irfan’s music and reliance on traditional instruments is based on a blend of the musical influences common to Bulgaria, and thus represents a blend of medieval European, Balkan and Middle-Eastern styles.

Troy, that article on Texas law is interesting. No, I hadn’t seen or heard about it. I will dig into it more tomorrow and talk to my contacts in Tejas.

I tend to NOT trust silver bullets. They are both dangerous and unreliable. Just because something works in one court or on a given day, doesn’t guaranty future success. It tends to get people in trouble. We would all love to find a silver bullet that truly affords protection from tyrannical judiciary and gubmint agents.

Exclusive: Keith Olbermann Calls Roman Polanski’s Child Rape “No Biggie,” Says He’d “Hit It,” Too

The exact quote is as follows:

“Roman Polanski is being hung in effigy by the fascist Christian right, who claim he is the posterboy for what is wrong with the American left. Polanski’s crime was no biggie, and if I were in his shoes, I’d hit that, too. Without hesitation. She looked older and was asking for it.”
Source? Don’t need one. It sounds like something a cartoonish caricature of Olbermann would say, so he therefore said it. I anxiously await the mainstream press to diagnose Olbermann’s statement – heretofore never noticed by anyone except for a commenter named “dingo” who tipped me off to it – as “career-ending.”

    Go get him, mainstream press!

A new wrinkle in the Rifqa Bary case – the family is here illegally

Yes, the Florida judge agreed to send her back to Ohio, where the authorities there have already greased the skids to return her to her abusive family to appease the gods of political correctness.

But before the media cheerleaders at the Orlando Sentinel and the Columbus Dispatch start their parties, it all may not be over – yet. The Florida judge threw one wrinkle into the mix:

Before the girl gets sent back, the judge says he needs immigration papers proving her status in the U.S. and proof from the state of Florida that she can continue her virtual schooling and receive credit in Ohio.
The attorney for Rifqa’s parents has long since crossed the line of contempt of court by refusing to provide the immigration papers on FIVE separate occasions. Why? Because the whole family is here illegally. They used Rifqa’s eye injury to get a visa so she could get treatment and overstayed the visa, which is why they have steadfastly refused to provide the documents to the court.

    This could get interesting.

Ten – I really don’t know what I was even thinking when I wrote that. I do know that he is only a puppet. That article Troy posted just hit the mark so well that it floored me for a moment. I guess what I should have said was that the depths of this satanical regime is so great that it scares the h*ll out of me because I am scared for those in my family who do not see the truth and for others as well. I know that satan is here and the fact that things are coming at us so fast because he knows his time is short. I am looking forward to the day when Jesus will return. I just never thought I would live to see that what is happening today would be in my lifetime. We will undergo tribulation and the depths of it will be such as man as never seen. But I take solace in knowing that Jesus will shorten those days for the sake of the elect.

Also, another emotion I am feeling is anger. I am so angry that at times I can’t even stand myself. I am angry with America for turning its back on God. I am angry because all that this country stood for is being trashed. And I am afraid this anger will get me into trouble at some point in time down the road. The delusion that is talked about in the Bible is here NOW. For if it were not here – EVERY person in America would be feeling this anger and we know that this is not the case.

So Ten, I pray for you, as well as others, that your efforts will open the eyes of others.

What Olympia Snowe Got for Her Vote

    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2009/10/what_olympia_snowe_got_for_her.html

Jim Manley, a spokesman for Mr. Reid, said that Senator Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, the lone Republican on the Finance Committee to vote in favor of the bill, would be invited to future sessions.

And Mr. Manley said the Democratic leader was prepared to go to substantial lengths to keep Ms. Snowe’s support.

“He is prepared to do what he can to keep her on board while putting together a bill that can get the 60 votes necessary to overcome a Republican filibuster,” Mr. Manley said.

    ***

Democrats really want this bill to be bipartisan — to the point that they’re giving the Republican a space in the negotiations equivalent to the chairmen of the two relevant committees.

Indeed, I wouldn’t be shocked if this perk had been negotiated in advance of Snowe’s vote yesterday.

This shifts the room’s balance of power substantially:

The negotiations were previously confined to one liberal Democrat and one centrist Democrat.

Now they’ll be between one liberal Democrat, one centrist Democrat, and one moderate Republican.

In practice, this is likely to mean that Baucus will have something of a trump card against Dodd.

If there’s a particularly thorny dispute, and Snowe weighs in strongly alongside Baucus, it’s hard to imagine Reid siding with Dodd, except in the most extraordinary of cases.

There will also be issues that Snowe brings to the table herself.

For one thing, she wants to make sure the bill is affordable, but that just means that people can afford the fees, not necessarily that what they’re buying will be good insurance.

One of her ideas, actually, is to make the minimum benefit package less generous.

She also wants to open up the exchanges and

*** push for her public option trigger. ***

  42. rosettasister Says:

If anything, Snowe’s vote means Democrats will “have to continue to address her concerns about affordability and excessive government intrusion into health care.”

Her vote could “give bipartisan cover to moderate Senate Democrats” such as Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Evan Bayh of Indiana.

It also “frees the White House to turn its attention to gathering more Republican supporters.”

The other Republican senator from Maine, Susan Collins could become another target of Democrats as they seek to expand bipartisan support.

Obama Administration To Allow Russia To Visit Nuclear Sites In America To Count Missiles And Warheads.

The plan, which Fox News has learned was agreed to in principle during negotiations, would constitute the most intrusive weapons inspection program the U.S. has ever accepted.

Russia and the United States have tentatively agreed to a weapons inspection program that would allow Russians to visit nuclear sites in America to count missiles and warheads.

The plan, which Fox News has learned was agreed to in principle during negotiations, would constitute the most intrusive weapons inspection program the U.S. has ever accepted.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said publicly Tuesday that the two nations have made “considerable” progress toward reaching agreement on a new strategic arms treaty.

The 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or START, expires in December and negotiators have been racing to reach agreement on a successor.

Clinton said the U.S. would be as transparent as possible.

“We want to ensure that every question that the Russian military or Russian government asks is answered,” she said, calling missile defense “another area for deep cooperation between our countries.”

On another critical issue, Lavrov declared that it would be counterproductive to threaten Iran with more sanctions over its nuclear program — as he resisted efforts by Clinton to win agreement for tougher measures should Iran fail to prove its program is peaceful.

Clinton visited Moscow on her first trip since becoming America’s top diplomat, in an effort to gauge Moscow’s willingness to join the U.S. in imposing sanctions.

Clinton said the U.S. agreed it was important to pursue diplomacy with Iran.

“At the same time that we are very vigorously pursuing this track, we are aware that we might not be as successful as we need to be, so we have always looked at the potential of sanctions in the event we are not successful and cannot assure ourselves and others that Iran has decided not to pursue nuclear weapons,” she said at a joint news conference.

Iran insists it has the right to a full domestic nuclear enrichment program and maintains it is only for peaceful purposes, such as energy production.

President Obama — who visited Russia in July — has vowed to “reset” U.S.-Russia relations. On Tuesday, Clinton apologized for missing that meeting because of a broken elbow.

“But now both my elbow and our relationships are reset and we’re moving forward, which I greatly welcome,” she said.

She was to meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev later Tuesday.

Well, no. The “Miss Tickly” individual, “TerriK” or under whatever online alias, is in the employ of Donofrio.

And, Donofrio believes birth documentation will ultimately prove Obama to have been born in Hawaii. But, he certainly does not believe that to mean Obama is a natural-born citizen.

    OFFICIAL NEWSBREAK FROM EAGLES DISOBEY!

Eagles Disobey can now confirm that Dr. Dan received the nasal LIVE/ATTENUATED A/H1N1 VACCINE this morning, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

    He received “MedImmune Lot#500765P”

Dan had consulted with a private physician, yesterday, in the presence of Marci. Dan received a special “ok” to get the live vaccine.

So, they made a plan for him to receive the LIVE flumist vaccine, and for her to receive the INACTIVE A/H1N1 INJECTABLE VACCINE.

(She is yet to receive the injection but is expected to within about week.)

That way, the Eagles have taken BOTH varieties of this vaccine!

This morning, unannounced to Dr. Marci, Dr. Dan diverted the Chief of Security, Steven, from first taking him to the UNLV Library for some research, to the Southern Nevada Health District where he received the vaccination.

Steven reports he got a couple short video shots of Dan in a long line of people going in for vaccination, but was soon parted from him as Dan was taken into a large room where the vaccinations took place.

Dan received a CDC IMMUNIZATION CARD on which he was asked to print his name with his date of birth.

The card was already printed with the date, vaccine type/manufacturer and lot number.

He has agreed to release an image of the card, which is an official document issued by the SNHD/CDC, to the public.

Dan is at home with Marci, he is feeling just fine.

Liberty LostThe latest legal turn out of Hawaii leaves very little wiggle room for the state.

On July 27th 2009 The Hawaii Department of Health in a press release declared that Barack Obama was a Natural Born Citizen.

Researcher Justin Riggs on July 29th was informed by email that Hawaii Attorney General Mark Bennett reviewed and approved the Statement released by DoH Director Fukino.

Attorney Leo Donofrio has been investigating the irregularities in the State of Hawaii at his Blog Natural Born Citizen and has published a copy of the emails between Riggs and the Attorney General’s office:

From: Justin Riggs [email address redacted]
Date: Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 12:03 PM
    To: …janice.okubo@doh.hawaii.gov, [redacted other recipient]

    …Ms. Okubo,
I am currently a masters degree candidate at …

The reason that I am contacting your organizations is that you are, as far as I can tell from my research, the only two groups that have openly stated that President Obama is a natural born citizen (one of the Article II, Section I qualifications for being President). I would like to document how you came to that conclusion: i.e. what the criteria is for your organization, what evidence the candidate provides, etc.
I thank you for your time, and look forward to receiving a response in the near future.
    Sincerely,
    Justin W. Riggs

Janice Okubo responded later that day:

    Aloha Justin,
The statement was reviewed and approved by our Attorney General Mark Bennett. I am unable to provide further comment.
    Janice Okubo
    Communications Office
    Hawaii State Department of Health…

According to law, the State of Hawaii must now disclose how it came to the decision that is found in Director Fukino’s July 27th Press Release that was approved by the State’s Attorney General. Haw. Rev. Stat. 28-4 states very clearly that formal opinions of the Attorney general must be made public. Further, The Hawaiian Office of Information Practices in 1991 formally set out the requirements that informal opinions of the AG must also be made available for public inspection. According to Donofrio, under the Uniform Rules of Evidence (Rule 510): “when the conclusions of an informal Attorney General opinion are made public by the agency/client, then the accompanying record of that opinion must also be disclosed to the public:”

The State of Hawaii declared that Obama was a Natural Born Citizen and that this disclosure was approved by the Attorney General of the State. The State of Hawaii must now release any and all communications and documentation that led it to making this determination. Because Janice Okubo on July 29th revealed that the decision was approved by the State’s Attorney General, and the state made its Natural Born Citizen statement, the state is now required by law to disclose how it reached that conclusion. As Donofrio states, there can be no secret law. The State of Hawaii cannot simply make a statement with legal weight, and then when asked to provide how it reached that decision, simply say: ‘You just have to trust us on that’. They must release any and all information that led them to make their public declarations.

On October 5th, Donofrio wrote to the office of the Attorney General, contacting Jill Nagamine:

Subject: Request for AG Opinion letter
    Date: Monday, October 5, 2009 8:34 PM
    From:”Leo Donofrio” [email redacted]
    To: Jill.T.Nagamine@hawaii.gov

    Dear Ms. Nagamine,
The following request for Government records is made pursuant to the UIPA.
I request a copy (or access to a copy) of the Attorney General Opinion Letter the Attorney General provided to Department of Health Director Fukino which reviewed and approved her July 27, 2009 statement/press release about President Barack Obama wherein it was stated that he is a “natural-born American citizen.”
I request the opinion letter referenced above whether it was prepared as a formal Opinion Letter under Haw. Rev. Stat. 28-3 (and/or any other authority) or as an informal letter if prepared under Haw. Rev. Stat. 28-4 (and/or any other authority).

Please have your response conform to the OIP administrative rules.

A few hours later he received the following response:

Subject: Re Request for Ag Opinion letter
    From: “Jill.T.Nagamine@hawaii.gov”
    To: “Leo Donofrio” [email redacted]

    Dear Mr. Donofrio:
No formal (emphasis added) attorney general opinion was generated relating to the July 27, 2009 public statement made by Chiyome L. Fukino, M.D. Any other legal advice rendered to our clients is privileged communication. We have nothing to release based on your request.

    Very truly yours,
    Jill T. Nagamine
    Deputy Attorney General
    State of Hawaii

With all due respect to Ms Nagamine, this response is disingenuous in the extreme. First, Mr. Donofrio asked for all formal and informal communications. Under the law, the state has to release this information once any part of the resulting decisions are publically released, which happened on July 27th with Director Fukino’s Press Release, and again on July 29th When Janice Okubo informed Mr. Riggs that the Attorney General approved the statement. Second, Ms Nagamine’s response states that the informal communications are attorney client privilege, where none exists.

According to OIP Opinion letter 91-23, the conclusions of an informal Attorney General opinion made public by the agency or client (The Department of Health) the accompanying record of that opinion must be made public.

A client cannot voluntarily and selectively disclose those portions of a communication between the client and the client’s attorney without forfeiting the right to keep other portions of the communication on the same subject matter privileged.

The privilege may be said to be waived when the client relinquishes its protection. The waiver of this privilege follows as a consequence from any conduct by the client that would make it unfair for the client thereafter to assert the privilege. See generally, Marcus, The Perils of Privilege: Waiver and the Litigator, 84 Mich. L. Rev. 1065 (1986)

Similarly, under Rule 510 of the Uniform Rules of Evidence, the holder of a privilege waives it if the privilege holder consents to the disclosure of “any significant part of the privileged matter.”

The response of Ms Nagamine is very clearly not addressing the informal communications between Director Fukino and the Attorney General. By law, the public has the right to see any communications between these two parties once the client, in this case the Department of Health, publically releases the conclusions reached through those communications.

Donofrio is currently filing an appeal with the OIP, and the Judiciary as well. Because of the nature of the law involved, Donofrio will get that judicial review in an expedited manner.

The State of Hawaii will soon be forced to reveal the information it used to declare Barack Obama a Natural Born citizen. This will be very interesting, considering Obama’s Father was a British Citizen. therefore Barack Obama Jr is also a British Citizen, and was at birth by the very nature of his parentage.

Barack Obama, by legal definitions going back to the 1600’s is not, was not, and never has been a Natural Born Citizen. It does not matter where Barack Obama was born; he was a dual American/British/Kenyan citizen. He could have been born on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. itself, and it would not matter. The basic fact of Barack Obama’s parentage remains the same. A Dual Citizen cannot ever be a Natural Born Citizen.

    There is absolutely no doubt.

There is an Usurper in the White House, and his name is Barack Obama. He and those who aided him in this usurpation, including the DNC are guilty of Treason to the United States. Every law that has been passed, every treaty signed, every order issued to the military has zero legal weight.

This leads to a singularly terrifying reality that must be dealt with. The United States does not have a constitutional government.

This is the reason the Democrats in Congress are pushing things through as fast as they possibly can, without reading and in the case of the Senate even writing the legislation they are voting on. Once it becomes public knowledge what the Democrats and the DNC have done in their fraud upon America with Barack Obama, they will not be able to get anything done. Rightly so.

This is a scandal and cover-up 100 times the size of Watergate. This time, it won’t be just a President resigning in disgrace, it will also be the DNC Leadership who will be under the criminal investigation microscope for the cover-up, and it is a scrutiny they cannot withstand.

This is the reason Barack Obama is doing everything he can to keep people focused on the irrelevant issue of his birth certificate. He would rather people be thinking about where he was born rather than the citizenship that was conferred upon him by his British father.

The smoke and mirrors have cleared. This is no longer a partisan issue, partisan issues are reserved for constitutional governments, which we do not have. There is only those who understand the peril we are in, and those who do not, and we are all Americans.

Now, what are we going to do about it?

    AP declares Obama “Kenyan-Born”!
October 14, 2009 by John Charlton

IN 2004 PIECE DISTRIBUTED WORLD-WIDE, REPRINTED ALSO IN KENYA
    by John Charlton

(Oct. 15, 2009) — What most people know is that the Associated Press (AP) is one of the largest, internationally recognized, syndicated news services. What most people don’t know that is in 2004, the AP was a “birther” news organization.

How so? Because in a syndicated report, published Sunday, June 27, 2004, by the Kenyan Standard Times, and which was, as of this report, available at

    http://web.archive.org/web/20040627142700/eastandard.net/headlines/news26060403.htm

The AP reporter stated the following:

Kenyan-born US Senate hopeful, Barrack Obama, appeared set to take over the Illinois Senate seat after his main rival, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race on Friday night amid a furor over lurid sex club allegations.

This report explains the context of the oft cited debate, between Obama and Keyes in the following Fall, in which Keyes faulted Obama for not being a “natural born citizen”, and in which Obama, by his quick retort, “So what? I am running for Illinois Senator, not the presidency”, self-admitted that he was not eligible for the office. Seeing that an AP reporter is too professional to submit a story which was not based on confirmed sources (ostensibly the Obama campaign in this case), Obama himself was putting out in 2004, that he was born in Kenya.

The difficulty in finding this gem of a story is hampered by Google, which is running flak for Obama: because if you search for “Kenyan-born US Senate” you wont find it, but if you search for the phrase without quotes you will find links which talk about it.

U.S. troop funds diverted to pet projects

By Shaun Waterman THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to an analysis.

Among the 778 such projects, known as earmarks, packed into the bill: $25 million for a new World War II museum at the University of New Orleans and $20 million to launch an educational institute named after the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat.

While earmarks are hardly new in Washington, “in 30 years on Capitol Hill, I never saw Congress mangle the defense budget as badly as this year,” said Winslow Wheeler, a former Senate staffer who worked on defense funding and oversight for both Republicans and Democrats. He is now a senior fellow at the Center for Defense Information, an independent research organization.

Sen. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican, called the transfer of funds from Pentagon operations and maintenance “a disgrace.”

“The Senate is putting favorable headlines back home above our men and women fighting on the front lines,” he said in a statement.

Mr. Wheeler, who conducted the study, compared the Obama administration’s requests for funds with the $636 billion spending bill that the Senate passed. He discovered that senators added $2.6 billion in pet projects while spending $4 billion less than the administration requested for fiscal 2010, which began Oct. 1.

Mr. Wheeler said that senators took most of the cash for the projects from the “operations and maintenance” or O&M accounts.

“These are the accounts that pay for troop training, repairs, spares and supplies for vehicles, weapons, ships and planes, food and fuel,” Mr. Wheeler said.

Raiding those accounts to fund big-ticket projects the military does not want, but that benefit senators’ home states or campaign contributors, amounts to “rancid gluttony,” he said.

The administration’s budget requested $156 billion for the regular O&M account and $81 billion for O&M for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill passed by the Senate cut $2.4 billion from the regular account and $655 million from the war O&M fund.

Bloodshed aimed at scuttling a planned offensive into the militant heartland along the Afghan border

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/world/6668708.html

President Asif Ali Zardari said the bloodshed that has engulfed the nation over the past 11 days would not deter the government from its mission to eliminate the violent extremists.

The U.S. has encouraged Pakistan to take strong action against insurgents who are using its soil as a base for attacks in Afghanistan, where U.S. troops are bogged down in an increasingly difficult war. It has carried out a slew of its own missile strikes in Pakistan’s lawless tribal belt over the past year, killing several top militants including Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud.

The Taliban have warned Pakistan to stop pursuing them in military operations.

The Pakistani army has given no time frame for its expected offensive in South Waziristan tribal region, but has reportedly already sent two divisions totaling 28,000 men and blockaded the area.

Fearing the looming offensive, about 200,000 people have fled South Waziristan since August, moving in with relatives or renting homes in the Tank and Dera Ismail Khan areas, a local government official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

    Senator Collins “disappointed”

    http://www.kansascity.com/444/story/1508840.html

The key to any bill’s success are the centrists. In the Senate, that means wooing eight to 10 moderate Democrats and two Republicans, Maine’s Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe, who was the only Republican to back the Finance Committee bill.

Collins signaled Wednesday that she’s open to compromise, but had concerns about the Finance Committee bill. She said she was “disappointed” that it didn’t trim costs further, and “troubled” about its Medicare changes.

In addition, Collins said, the measure “falls short of the goal of providing access to more affordable health care to all Americans.”

    Centrist Democrats voiced other concerns.

Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., insisted that the federal budget deficit not be increased, as the House bill would do. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., would like near-universal coverage, and saw the Finance bill as not going far enough. In the House, many lawmakers from rural areas want assurance that small businesses won’t be unduly burdened by the cost of providing insurance.

Here are some key questions that lawmakers must answer before they can be optimistic about legislative success:

-Can a public option win congressional approval? President Barack Obama, Democratic congressional leaders and most Democratic lawmakers want a government-run plan. So does their party’s base.

A group of 27 labor unions ran full-page newspaper ads Wednesday calling the Finance Committee bill “deeply flawed,” and endorsing the public option.

    Moderates, however, are unenthusiastic.

The Finance Committee endorsed co-ops, or member-run, nonprofit companies that would negotiate with providers.

“I don’t think I’m alone,” Lieberman said during an interview on Fox News. “I think there are other moderate Democrats who have a lot of questions about the bill.”

The Connecticut centrist, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, said that other Democratic centrists’ concerns revolve around the price tag of the bill, as well as the taxes on high-value insurance plans in order to finance the bill. Those taxes, Lieberman has said, would only be passed along to consumers.

“We’ve got some questions we want to ask,” he said on behalf of those centrists.

    States as gate keeper

“We are all talking together, trying to find something that not everyone will love but the entire (Democratic) caucus will come to agreement on,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who for months has been seeking a politically viable compromise.

“It’s going to be something flexible, but not weak,” Schumer added. His idea: a federal plan that states can opt out of.

(“the entire (Democratic) caucus” will NOT come to agreement on Schumer’s opt-out)

  112. rosettasister Says:

    Carper’s state opt-in “only as a backstop”

Advocates are getting creative, trying to reformulate the “public option” in a way that can gain the 60 votes needed to clear the Senate.

Instead of an all-or-nothing approach, they’re trying to provide choices.

What if each state could decide whether to offer public coverage instead of having it decreed from Washington — as proposed by Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del.?

What if states had a menu of options, from nonprofit co-ops to using their own employee health plans?

What if public coverage were offered only as a backstop in areas where one insurer has a lock on the market?

(“only as a backstop” – Why not a trigger for coops? Only where private insurers do NOT step up to the plate (which is highly unlikely) and coops are not-for-profit but NOT government-run)

  113. rosettasister Says:

Karl Rove recently defended Bush’s Medicare Part D prescription-drug entitlement. And he emphasized that the legislation includes a “trigger” which never needed to be pulled because of private sector competition.

    EXCERPT

HH: Now Senator McConnell, this audience, at least, and I think generally in the United States, are very aware of the cloture vote.

They believe that is the vote. I believe that’s the vote.

I believe this is a lost cause if they get sixty votes.

    MM: Well, there’ll be two.

There’ll be cloture on motion to get on the bill, and then there’ll be cloture on the, you know, to get off the bill.

So there’ll be two opportunities at a minimum for the majority to demonstrate they can produce sixty.

HH: And so, when does that first vote come up? Because that, to me, is…

MM: Well, that’ll be up to Reid, and what we’re insisting on is that before we even get to the issue of whether we proceed to the bill, it needs to be on the internet a minimum of 72 hours.

It needs to have a score from the Congressional Budget Office.

Bear in mind, what they scored was a concept paper in the Finance Committee.

That matter that they voted out of committee yesterday was not a bill.

It was a concept paper, which then has to be produced, has to be reduced to bill language.

I don’t think they’ll ever even reduce that bill, that concept paper to bill language.

The one they’re going to do is the one that’s in Reid’s office right now being written in consultation with the White House.

HH: But to gear up America to resist the first cloture vote, to get on the bill, people need to kind of have a sense of when Harry Reid’s going to try and slip it through.

And do you have any sense of that?

MM: I think he’ll probably try to go to the bill sometime before the end of the month.

    That would be my guess.

HH: And how much are you talking with those 10-12 Democrats, who you may or may not want to name, about stopping it right then?

MM: Yeah, well, I’m not going to name them, but you know, they’re looking at the public opinion polls, too, and I’m sure you’ve reported to your listeners how the public is dramatically turning against this bill.

And we don’t operate in a vacuum up here.

You know, everybody’s interested in public opinion, and public opinion has an enormous impact on what we do.

And there’s a whole lot more queasiness on the Democratic side on this debate than there is on the Republican side.

    I can tell you that.

(“people need to kind of have a sense of WHEN Harry Reid’s going to try and slip it through” — actually, people need to have a sense of WHAT Reid is going to put forth. And that will determine if Reid can get to 60 votes.)

That means one in every 136 U.S. homes were in foreclosure, which is a 5% increase from the second quarter and a 23% jump over the third quarter of 2008.

    Duckworth working to win

Duckworth is happy to point out that she and Hawai’i-raised Punahou graduate Obama have “a kama’aina connection.”

Both were born outside the country — Obama in Indonesia, Duckworth in Thailand — and graduated from high school in Honolulu — Punahou and McKinley, respectively.

I don’t know, CJ. I have my doubts about Schumer’s success this time. So long as there is a trigger, and not a hair trigger, there will be plenty of competition in New York state.

She commands a ninth-floor office with a view of the White House, and swallows hard when the president’s Marine One helicopter takes off and lands, remembering her “rotor-head” days.

One of seven assistant secretaries, she oversees the Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs. Among key concerns: homeless vets, the needs of female vets, and the growing number of Vietnam vets retiring from civilian jobs and turning to the department for medical care.

Dow Hits 10,000 as Storm Clouds Gather [Larry Kudlow]

    http://kudlow.nationalreview.com/post/?q=Mzk1OGMyNDBlOWEzNTcwM2M3ODA4N2IzMzVhZmFjYTI=

But storm clouds are gathering. And a big one is the sinking dollar.

No one in the Obama administration or at the Fed seems to care about it.

In fact, they are probably applauding the lower dollar as a sort of 1970s way of boosting exports and the manufacturing heartland in the Midwest.

But the falling dollar is bad for consumers.

And it ultimately will cause higher inflation, as signaled by the rising gold price.

There also are future tax hikes and the explosion of spending and debt.

All of this is why it’s hard for me to be a long-term bull.

Stocks could have another four to six months to rally.

And that’s great for increasing the wealth of the investor class, and maybe even enhancing the animal spirits a bit.

But the policy mix is wrong.

Health-care entitlements and taxes punctuate the wrong-way policy mix.

And what’s left to be seen is whether the Republicans can successfully challenge the Democrats with a true supply-side economic-growth and job-creating platform.

(Some conservatives seem to be resigning themselves to the fact that Reid will indeed get the 60 votes he needs in the Senate. Then why not get in there and improve the bill? Tort-reform, Snowe’s trigger in exchange for a yes vote?)

LEAKED NETWORK MEMO REVEALS: Obama Controls Your Television Set
    by John Nolte

On September 10th of this year the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) posted a press release informing the world that “from October 19-25, more than 60 network TV shows [will] spotlight the power and personal benefits of service,” and that this “unprecedented block of TV programming is the first wave of a multi-year ‘I Participate’ campaign.”

On its face this all sounds rather benign in that silly, liberal do-gooder kind of way. The networks have launched these kinds of campaigns before and other than some clunky exposition awkwardly inserted into your favorite show to meet the mandate — no harm, no foul.

But this year there are a couple new strangers in town: “Volunteerism” and “Service.” You’ve heard of them. Their names have been bandied everywhere since President Obama took office, and this internal memo from the EIF to network showrunners obtained by Big Hollywood shows that the entertainment industry is well acquainted and eager to introduce both to as vast an audience as possible:

Like the NEA story, once again we see the same buzzwords pop up; suggested topics pitched to an overwhelmingly left-of-center group: Education, health, environment, the economy and lastly — almost as an afterthought as some kind of “bi-partisan” cover – support for military families.

We’ll have to wait until next week to see what effect this initiative will have on the 60 television (and news) programs in question, but thanks to the intrepid Patrick Courrielche and Stage Right, today we can answer the simple question of…

    “What’s wrong with this?”

Doing the work the Kamikaze Media (many of whom are participating in this event rather than digging for the story) refuses, and with the help of Big Government’s Dana Loesch, Patrick and Stage Right have discovered that when it comes to this White House – whether it’s the NEA conference calls or EIF’s iParticipate programming — all roads funnel into one place: online volunteer portals, including Serve.gov, where if you plug in “health care” all kinds of Planned Parenthood openings pop up along with a video dispelling those ugly “myths” knocking ObamaCare.

There’s scarier stuff, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise. *cough*Trutherism*cough*

We’ll start with Stage Right. Next week, tens, if not hundreds of millions of Americans, will be urged through the (ab)use of public airwaves to log on to the EIF iParticipate site and volunteer. Stage Right will give you a preview of what the unsuspecting and well-intentioned, including your children, will find.

If you’re thinking it’s all about “Meals on Wheels,” think again.

From there, Patrick Courrielche will show how this EIF initiative fits into a broader White House plan, including the push to politicize the NEA, to redefine “art” as “service” and engage an all too compliant news, entertainment, and artistic community to start a volunteer army through these online portals.

First the NEA, now the EIF…

    Starting to notice a pattern?

Why is that love relation between Russia and Iran this way strong? For that its several causes.

    1. Russia is probably not glad with a new core power in its backyard, but Iran is no direct threat to Russia in contrast to for example this Israel and Saudi Arabia.

    2. Russia has the idea that when she does not master the Iranian nuclear process the affair 1,2,3 will explode.

    3. Russia uses Iran as a joker in negotiations with the USAS. The direct consequence was that the weapon shield became by the USAS for Europe kaltgestellt whereas it had been already approved by the previous USAS government.

    4. Economic. It is in Ruslands advantage of running down the nuclear plants. It can continue provide the raw materials and logistics to look after. Furthermore Russia de facto the largest weapon supplier of Iran is.

    5. Religious. Russia and Iran has both a common enemy in the soenni to the south border of Russia and the North border of Iran.

    6. The Russian LEADERs have up to the day of today a large hekel to the Americans whom they accuse there of Communism to have blown up and vervolgens Russia in heat have let stand. Supporting Iran is a beautiful manner catch the Americans.

Israel may attack Iran after December – Le Canard Enchaine

    http://debka.com/headline.php?hid=6321

According to an unconfirmed report in the French Le Canard Enchaine of Wednesday, Oct. 14, Israel is preparing to bomb Iranian nuclear sites and pro-Iranian targets across the Middle East after December 2009.

The prestigious satirical weekly reports that the IDF has notified special forces reservists abroad to get ready to return home in November for immediate drafting to the military operation against Iranian nuclear facilities.

The weekly further reports Israel has ordered combat rations from a French firm for these reservists to stay on long-term missions far from home.

French military sources said that Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi met secretly in France with US armed forces Chief of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen and French Chief of Staff Gen. Jean-Louis Georgelin, to inform that

Israel planned to attack Iran after December, when it became clear that the talks between the six powers and Tehran had failed to produce any benefit.

According to Le Canard Enchaine, Ashkenazi said Israel would not attack Iran by air but rather use ground forces in coordinated operations on several Middle East fronts.

(I don’t believe this! Is this supposed to be funny? Because it’s not.)

DEBKAfile’s military sources add that if the information leaked to the newspaper from French joint staffs sources is correct –

and not a red herring to disguise the impending attack’s real nature –

the IDF may be expected to branch out from Iran’s nuclear facilities to target its allies too, such as Syrian air force and missile batteries, Hizballah bases in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Le Canard Enchaine is not alone in predicting an Israeli attack on Iran after December.

A former Israeli deputy defense minister, Efraim Sneh, commented to US and British media several times in the past week that

if the US fails to rally fellow powers’ support for toughened sanctions against Iran by Christmas, Israel will have to attack its nuclear installations.

It may be assumed that Sneh was not just guessing on his own initiative.

Obama Poised to Cede US Sovereignty, Claims British Lord

The Minnesota Free Market Institute hosted an event at Bethel University in St. Paul on Wednesday evening. Keynote speaker Lord Christopher Monckton, former science adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, gave a scathing and lengthy presentation, complete with detailed charts, graphs, facts, and figures which culminated in the utter decimation of both the pop culture concept of global warming and the credible threat of any significant anthropomorphic climate change.

A detailed summary of Monckton’s presentation will be available here once compiled. However, a segment of his remarks justify immediate publication. If credible, the concern Monckton speaks to may well prove the single most important issue facing the American nation, bigger than health care, bigger than cap and trade, and worth every citizen’s focused attention.

Here were Monckton’s closing remarks, as dictated from my audio recording:

At [the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in] Copenhagen, this December, weeks away, a treaty will be signed. Your president will sign it. Most of the third world countries will sign it, because they think they’re going to get money out of it. Most of the left-wing regime from the European Union will rubber stamp it. Virtually nobody won’t sign it.

I read that treaty. And what it says is this, that a world government is going to be created. The word “government” actually appears as the first of three purposes of the new entity. The second purpose is the transfer of wealth from the countries of the West to third world countries, in satisfication of what is called, coyly, “climate debt” – because we’ve been burning CO2 and they haven’t. We’ve been screwing up the climate and they haven’t. And the third purpose of this new entity, this government, is enforcement.

How many of you think that the word “election” or “democracy” or “vote” or “ballot” occurs anywhere in the 200 pages of that treaty? Quite right, it doesn’t appear once. So, at last, the communists who piled out of the Berlin Wall and into the environmental movement, who took over Greenpeace so that my friends who funded it left within a year, because [the communists] captured it – Now the apotheosis as at hand. They are about to impose a communist world government on the world. You have a president who has very strong sympathies with that point of view. He’s going to sign it. He’ll sign anything. He’s a Nobel Peace Prize [winner]; of course he’ll sign it.

    [laughter]

And the trouble is this; if that treaty is signed, if your Constitution says that it takes precedence over your Constitution (sic), and you can’t resign from that treaty unless you get agreement from all the other state parties – And because you’ll be the biggest paying country, they’re not going to let you out of it.

So, thank you, America. You were the beacon of freedom to the world. It is a privilege merely to stand on this soil of freedom while it is still free. But, in the next few weeks, unless you stop it, your president will sign your freedom, your democracy, and your humanity away forever. And neither you nor any subsequent government you may elect will have any power whatsoever to take it back. That is how serious it is. I’ve read the treaty. I’ve seen this stuff about [world] government and climate debt and enforcement. They are going to do this to you whether you like it or not.

But I think it is here, here in your great nation, which I so love and I so admire – it is here that perhaps, at this eleventh hour, at the fifty-ninth minute and fifty-ninth second, you will rise up and you will stop your president from signing that dreadful treaty, that purposeless treaty. For there is no problem with climate and, even if there were, an economic treaty does nothing to [help] it.

So I end by saying to you the words that Winston Churchill addressed to your president in the darkest hour before the dawn of freedom in the Second World War. He quoted from your great poet Longfellow:

Sail on, O Ship of State!

Sail on, O Union, strong and great!

    Humanity with all its fears,

With all the hopes of future years,

Is hanging breathless on thy fate!

Lord Monckton received a standing ovation and took a series of questions from members of the audience. Among those questions were these relevent to the forthcoming Copenhagen treaty:

Would Obama’s new regulator ban ObamaCare?

    http://blogs.reuters.com/james-pethokoukis/2009/10/15/would-obamas-new-regulator-ban-obamacare/

Democrats, to be sure, have powerful rejoinder: the bill may cost a lot, but it actually saves moneycompared with doing nothing.

The CBO projects $81 billion in savings over the first decade and then “the added revenues and cost savings are projected to grow more rapidly than the cost of the coverage expansion.”

    Great news.

But those savings will materialize only if Congress actually cuts a projected $400 billion in government healthcare spending

    – including Medicare reimbursements to hospitals, doctors and other providers –

    over 10 years.

    Skepticism here is warranted.

Previous congressional promises to cut reimbursements haven’t panned out.

And Senator Debbie Stabenow, a Michigan Democrat, has just introduced a bill that would actually increase Medicare fees to doctors by $247 billion over the next decade.

That $247 billion should, by all rights, be added to the cost of the Baucus bill. (but what if Stabenow’s bill doesn’t become law?)

(Interestingly, if Congress actually stuck to the cuts, the tax increases would not be necessary, according to the Tax Foundation.)

Then there are the hidden fees.

The Baucus bill imposes a $200 billion excise tax on expensive insurance plans.

That’s a cost insurers will certainly pass onto consumers, nearly 90 percent of whom would make under $200,000, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation.

That kind of sounds like a stealth middle-class tax increase.

And you can be sure few taxpayers understand that a catch accompanies new government subsidies to cover the cost of private insurance.

Those subsidies phase out as incomes rise.

The result is a huge effective tax increase.

As the CBO puts it: “Marginal tax rates would go up by about 22 percentage points for all families whose income was between 100 percent and 400 percent of the poverty level.” (I think that would be between $22,000 and $88,000?)

(Example – I’m guessing here – Let’s say your taxes are currently $17,600. With BaucusCare, they’ll increase to $21,472? Can that be right? We really need some concrete examples so Americans can understand this.)

(I don’t understand this “all families.” Does that really mean “all families” or just “all families” that receive subsidies?)

Understated costs, hidden fees, deceptive advertising – why, there ought to be a law!

Actually, the flawed Baucus bill just needs to be prevented from becoming law.

(I’ll see if I can find out more about this “huge effective tax increase.” This must just apply to families who receive subsidies.)

    This answers my question

Marginal Tax Rates from Health Reform

    http://gregmankiw.blogspot.com/2009/10/marginal-tax-rates-from-health-reform.html

*** These figures apply to workers buying their health insurance on the newly created exchanges with the newly offered subsidies. ***

According to CBO, a family of four making $54,000 would pay $4,800 for health insurance.

The rest of the premium would come from government subsidies.

If the family’s income rises to $66,000, the subsidy falls, and the cost of health insurance rises to $7,600.

In other words, earning an additional $12,000 requires the family to pay an additional $2,800.

The implicit marginal tax rate is $2,800/$12,000, or 23 percent.

    ***

Similarly, a single person earning $26,500 would pay $2,300 for health insurance, but if his income rises to $32,400, his premium rises to $3,700.

This yields an implicit marginal rate rate of 24 percent.

    ***

You get somewhat different numbers at other income levels.

Typically, however, the implicit marginal tax rates are around 20 percent.

Those figures for marginal tax rates are, of course, added on top of those already imposed by existing income and payroll taxes.

(So what this really means is if the government (i.e., taxpayers) helps you with your premiums, you have to pay a higher share the higher your income? If I’ve got that right, that sounds reasonable.)

Snowe has already proven her willingness to break with her party on health-care reform, so it’s fairly clear that her personal politics, and those of her state, are more determinative than her party’s desires.

If that’s indeed the case, then Snowe’s state is much more liberal than Nelson’s state, and Snowe, by most accounts, is more liberal than Nelson, at least on health care.

The compromise she’s likely to detail will probably be substantially to the left of the compromise Nelson is likely to detail.

In addition to that, she’s already got her fingerprints on the Senate Finance Committee’s bill, and won’t feel like she has to move that document to the right to demonstrate the fruits of her involvement.

(I don’t agree with this statement, that’s exactly what Snowe said she would attempt to do when she explained her yes vote out of committee.)

Nelson hasn’t been involved in any of the bills, and would probably attempt to broker a whole new compromise if he were the decisive vote.

(“a whole new compromise” – well, let’s hope so, but it has to be a compromise which will garner 60 votes.)

Oct 25th ~ Showdown in Chicago…Could THIS Be It???

Unlike the NON-millions (yeah, right) that protested in Washington over a month ago, here’s another that’s geared up to be JUST as big, if not BIGGER. This event ‘could’ have a lingering impact, as the webbots have suggested ~ it’s in Chicago and who knows what might happen?

Reining in the financial industry’s power and greed will be a long, hard-fought war, but it is one that must be fought.

The elites hate to acknowledge it, but when large numbers of ordinary people are moved to action, it changes the narrow political world where the elites call the shots. Inside accounts reveal the extent to which Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon’s conduct of the Vietnam war was constrained by the huge anti-war movement. It was the civil rights movement, not compelling arguments, that convinced members of the US Congress to end legal racial discrimination. More recently, the town hall meetings dominated by people opposed to healthcare reform have been a serious roadblock for those pushing reform.

Those disgusted by the bank bailouts, and the bankers who brought us this recession, will have a chance to make their views known when the American Bankers Association has its annual meeting in Chicago this month. A large coalition of labour, community and consumer organisations are organising a protest at this “Showdown in Chicago”. (October 25th!)

Last week, the Pentagon requested from Congress (and received approval) to redirect $52 million dollars for the acceleration of purchasing 4 MOP bombs — Massive Ordnance Penetrators. This 30,000 pound weapon is approximately 31.5 inches in diameter and 20.5 feet long, with about the same amount of explosives inside as Wallis’ Tallboy (5,300 pounds).

These weapons will be needed to help destroy Iran’s underground nuclear program.

The warhead case is made from a special high-performance steel alloy, which lets it survive the high-speed impact into a hardened concrete bunker facility. The MOB’s design helps it maintain structural integrity during that impact.

The president issued a little-noticed “presidential determination” Sept. 29 that delegated authority for determining whether missile and space exports should be approved for China to Commerce Secretary Gary Locke.[…]

Henry Sokolski, director of the Nonproliferation Policy Education Center, said restoring Commerce Department control over the sensitive experts is a “step backward.”

“It’s as though Commerce’s mishandling of missile-tech transfers to China in the 1990s never happened,” said Mr. Sokolski, a former Pentagon proliferation specialist. “But it did. As a result, we are now facing much more accurate, reliable missiles from China.”

Mr. Sokolski said he expects the U.S. government under the new policy to again boost Chinese military modernization through “whatever renewed ‘benign’ missile technology” is approved.

General Xu Caihou, vice chairman of the People’s Liberation Army central military commission, will hold high-level meetings from October 24-31 and visit military commands and bases across the United States, press secretary Geoff Morrell told a news conference.[…]

During his tour, the Chinese general was due to visit sites from all the US armed services, including the US Naval Academy in Maryland, US Strategic Command in Nebraska, Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, the US Army’s Fort Benning in Georgia, the North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego and US Pacific Command in Hawaii, Morrell said.

    Debacle in Moscow

    By Charles Krauthammer
    Friday, October 16, 2009

About the only thing more comical than Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize was the reaction of those who deemed the award “premature,” as if the brilliance of Obama’s foreign policy is so self-evident and its success so assured that if only the Norway Five had waited a few years, his Nobel worthiness would have been universally acknowledged.

To believe this, you have to be a dreamy adolescent (preferably Scandinavian and a member of the Socialist International) or an indiscriminate imbiber of White House talking points. After all, this was precisely the spin on the president’s various apology tours through Europe and the Middle East: National self-denigration — excuse me, outreach and understanding — is not meant to yield immediate results; it simply plants the seeds of good feeling from which foreign policy successes shall come.

Chauncey Gardiner could not have said it better. Well, at nine months, let’s review.

What’s come from Obama holding his tongue while Iranian demonstrators were being shot and from his recognizing the legitimacy of a thug regime illegitimately returned to power in a fraudulent election? Iran cracks down even more mercilessly on the opposition and races ahead with its nuclear program.

What’s come from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton taking human rights off the table on a visit to China and from Obama’s shameful refusal to see the Dalai Lama (a postponement, we are told)? China hasn’t moved an inch on North Korea, Iran or human rights. Indeed, it’s pushing with Russia to dethrone the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

What’s come from the new-respect-for-Muslims Cairo speech and the unprecedented pressure on Israel for a total settlement freeze? “The settlement push backfired,” reports The Post, and Arab-Israeli peace prospects have “arguably regressed.”

And what’s come from Obama’s single most dramatic foreign policy stroke — the sudden abrogation of missile defense arrangements with Poland and the Czech Republic that Russia had virulently opposed? For the East Europeans it was a crushing blow, a gratuitous restoration of Russian influence over a region that thought it had regained independence under American protection.

But maybe not gratuitous. Surely we got something in return for selling out our friends. Some brilliant secret trade-off to get strong Russian support for stopping Iran from going nuclear before it’s too late? Just wait and see, said administration officials, who then gleefully played up an oblique statement by President Dmitry Medvedev a week later as vindication of the missile defense betrayal.

The Russian statement was so equivocal that such a claim seemed a ridiculous stretch at the time. Well, Clinton went to Moscow this week to nail down the deal. What did she get?

“Russia Not Budging On Iran Sanctions; Clinton Unable to Sway Counterpart.” Such was The Post headline’s succinct summary of the debacle.

Note how thoroughly Clinton was rebuffed. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared that “threats, sanctions and threats of pressure” are “counterproductive.” Note: It’s not just sanctions that are worse than useless, but even the threat of mere pressure.

It gets worse. Having failed to get any movement from the Russians, Clinton herself moved — to accommodate the Russian position! Sanctions? What sanctions? “We are not at that point yet,” she averred. “That is not a conclusion we have reached . . . it is our preference that Iran work with the international community.”

“At [the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in] Copenhagen, this December, weeks away, a treaty will be signed.

And the third purpose of this new entity, this government, is enforcement.”

  190. Tenacity Says:

    CJ,
The answer to your question is near the bottom of the repubx article:

Lord Monckton received a standing ovation and took a series of questions from members of the audience. Among those questions were these relevent to the forthcoming Copenhagen treaty:

Question: The current administration and the Democratic majority in Congress has shown little regard for the will of the people. They’re trying to pass a serious government agenda, and serious taxation and burdens on future generations. And there seems to be little to stop them. How do you propose we stop Obama from doing this, because I see no way to stop him from signing anything in Copenhagen. I believe that’s his agenda and he’ll do it.

Response: I don’t minimize the difficulty. But on this subject – I don’t really do politics, because it’s not right. In the end, your politics is for you. The correct procedure is for you to get onto your representatives, both in the US Senate where the bill has yet to go through (you can try and stop that) and in [the House], and get them to demand their right of audience (which they all have) with the president and tell him about this treaty. There are many very powerful people in this room, wealthy people, influential people. Get onto the media, tell them about this treaty. If they go to http://www.wattsupwiththat.com, they will find (if they look carefully enough) a copy of that treaty, because I arranged for it to be posted there not so long ago. Let them read it, and let the press tell the people that their democracy is about to be taken away for no good purpose, at least [with] no scientific basis [in reference to climate change]. Tell the press to say this. Tell the press to say that, even if there is a problem [with climate change], you don’t want your democracy taken away. It really is as simple as that.

Question: Is it really irrevocable if that treaty is signed? Suppose it’s signed by someone who does not have the authority, as I – I have some, a high degree of skepticism that we do have a valid president there because I know at least one judge who shares your opinion, sir, yes.

I don’t believe it until I see it. … Would [Obama’s potential illegitimacy as president] give us a reasonable cause to nullify whatever treaty that he does sign as president?

Response: I would be very careful not to rely on things like that. Although there is a certain amount of doubt whether or not he was born in Hawaii, my fear is it would be very difficult to prove he wasn’t born in Hawaii and therefore we might not be able to get anywhere with that. Besides, once he’s signed that treaty, whether or not he signed it validly, once he’s signed it and ratified it – your Senate ratifies it – you’re bound by it. But I will say one thing; they know, in the White House, that they won’t be able to get the 67 votes in the Senate, the two-thirds majority that your Constitution has stipulated must be achieved in order to ratify a treaty of this kind. However, what they’ve worked out is this – and they actually let it slip during the election campaign, which is how I know about it. They plan to enact that Copenhagen treaty into legislation by a simple majority of both houses. That they can do. But the virtue of that – and here you have a point – is that is, thank God, reversible. So I want you to pray tonight, and pray hard for your Senate that they utterly refuse to ratify the [new] Treaty of Copenhagen, because if they refuse to ratify it and [Obama] has to push it through as domestic legislation, you can repeal it.

Regardless of whether global warming is taking place or caused to any degree by human activity, we do not want a global government empowered to tax Americans without elected representation or anything analogous to constitutional protections. The Founding Fathers would roll over in their graves if they knew their progeny allowed a foreign power such authority, effectively undoing their every effort in an act of Anti-American Revolution. If that is our imminent course, we need to put all else on hold and focus on stopping it. If American sovereignty is ceded, all other debate is irrelevant.

Verifying the treaty clauses Mockton made reference to:

Skimming through the treaty, I came across verification of Monckton’s assessment of the new entity’s purpose:

    38. The scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention will be based on three basic pillars: government; facilitative mechanism; and financial mechanism, and the basic organization of which will include the following:

  191. rosettasister Says:

Karl Rove writing in the Wall Street Journal

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report last week claiming the (Baucus) bill won’t add to the deficit.

But this assumes that employers who dump employee coverage under the Baucus bill will then increase worker paychecks by an amount equal to what they had spent on health care.

This replaces a nontaxable event (providing health insurance) with a taxable one (increasing worker paychecks), magically producing $83 billion in revenues.

Without this windfall, the Baucus bill adds billions of dollars to the federal deficit in the first decade.

Of course, why would a company drop employee coverage just so it could pay more (in fines, taxes and wages) than it did before?

    ***

Mr. Rove spoke of this last night On The Record. This is important! This is what I was afraid of.

This has to do with the “employer free rider mandate” that is in the Baucus bill.

Rove speaks of “employers who dump employee coverage.”

Senator Frist wrote that in Massachusetts, where they have a similar employer mandate, the number of people who get their health insurance through their employer actually went up.

    So, which is it?

If the Baucus “employer free rider mandate” or something similar becomes law, what will be the net effect?

Will more or less of us be getting our health insurance through our employer?

And for the CBO to assume that employers will then “increase worker paychecks by an amount equal to what they had spent on health care” is absurd!

Will anyone in the MSM ask an intelligent question, please?!

  192. rosettasister Says:

Will the Baucus “employer free rider mandate” result in your employer dumping you?

Even the Norwegians Know Obama Can’t Keep His Promises

Representatives of the Norwegian Conservative, Progress, and Socialist Left parties all objected to the Obama Peace Prize nomination.

According to a report from the Agence France Press agency this week President Obama did not win the confidence of a majority of the five member panel before being awarded the Nobel Committee’s Peace Prize late last week. Even though the committee’s secretary told the press on Friday that the committee’s decision had been unanimous, it appears that the members of the committee have a different recollection of how the decision unfolded.

The representatives of the Norwegian Conservative, Progress, and Socialist Left parties all objected to the Obama nomination. The two votes of support on the committee came from the nation’s Labor Party.

The primary concerns of the objecting parties were Obama’s lack of experience on issues related to the objectives of the prize, as well as his “inability to keep his promise.”

As I noted in this editorial space only a few weeks ago, President Obama’s inability to keep his promises will be one of the key reasons I believe his administration will implode this fall.

Presently the president faces opposition from the left for broken promises to the radical anti-war and homosexual activist communities. He faces opposition from the political right for his determination to break a “no tax increase” burdening families with health care reform, as well as cap-and-trade legislation, not to mention bailouts, stimulus, and budget concerns.

He’s promised a public option for the uninsured, but then told politicians it would not be required for final passage.

He’s promised to win the “right” war in Afghanistan but is wavering on his support for his own military adviser’s request for resources.

He’s promised to close Gitmo but it sits open today.

He’s promised to create millions of jobs and not allow the unemployment rate to exceed 8%, but today it sits at higher than 15% in Detroit and is at nearly 10% nationally.

He’s promised to be the most transparent president in history but is conducting the final rounds of talks in the push for health care reform entirely behind closed doors.

He’s promised to put all legislation on the Internet for at least five days before he signs it into law but has not done this on any of the legislation he’s signed in the first year of his administration.

I’m not sure why the majority of the Nobel Committee thought he wouldn’t keep his promises, do you?

Which is just one more reason why we shouldn’t be paying much if any attention to what five politicians from Norway have to say about the condition of world affairs anyway.

I promise you… it really is meaningless.

The difficulties of paying for reform through spending cuts or tax hikes:

But these goals are now in jeopardy as the process moves forward.

Doctors want legislation to permanently fix their payments holding a cost roughly of $250bn and Senators are pushing for an expansion of coverage.

Both initiatives raise the fiscal cost of healthcare program to roughly $1.2 trillion (violating the total cost goal) and there are no additional options to pay for this expansion (violating the deficit neutral goal).

Not only is the cost of spending going up, but the push is now to lower the impact of the revenue raisers as unions push to reduce the tax on high end insurance plans.

This provision is one-quarter of the total offsets for healthcare and reducing that further exacerbates the gap between revenues and spending.

Also, this is viewed as a key provision to reduce the cost of healthcare and will added further headwinds to passage.

Not a single Sunday show anchor patiently questions proponents of the plan in the fashion that Tim Russert used to do when social security came up.

“Senator, will you explain, exactly, what the impacts will be to Medicare Advantage, and how the Medicare system will absurd 500 billion in cuts?”

“Senator, how much will premiums go up over ten years for a family of four under the Backs bill? PriceWaterhouseCoopers says from $13,000 to $26,000. I know you disagree, but how much will these premiums increase, and isn’t the bill supposed to stop this?”

“Senator, if the Baucus bill leaves millions still not covered, millions who are still using emergency rooms for primary care, how exactly will the growth in medical costs be handled?”

“Senator, Harry Reid says tort reform is worth $54 billion in savings. Why not include that in the bill?”

“Senator, what are we going to do about health care for the population not in the country legally and thus not eligible for the coverage?”

There aren’t persuasive answers to these questions and thus the MSM doesn’t embarrass their friends in the Administration or on the Hill by asking them.

if this goes through to conference, and they’re in there trying to match this up with what the House has passed,

it’s going to be one of the, it’ll be longer than all the other unread bills that were voted through without anybody reading them.

    To: Shermy

“Why do the faction of birthers who challenge Obama on being a natural born citizen care about the birth certificate when no one denies Obama’s father was not an American citizen?”

There are those in the ‘Birther’ community that hold fast to the belief that he was not born in Hawaii but was instead born in a foreign land such as Indonesia, Kenya, Canada or possibly Seattle. The “long form” birth certificate is said to hold the key to this mystery.

Last summer/fall the argument was that BHO had no American BC at all. This is at least one reason why the first statement from Hawaii was “Yes, we do have a BC on file”. IIRC, this was also the initial onus for BHO showing his BC to certain people friendly to him (factcheck, etc.) .

Then the argument became that BHO may have a BC on file, but it did not list the birthplace as being Hawaii. As I understand, it is a demonstrable fact that the State of Hawaii will issue a COLB for someone born overseas and list the place of birth as being their foreign place of birth. So the BC shown by the BHO camp was declared a clear and incontrovertible forgery by those convinced BHO was born overseas. Several individuals , among them a fellow going by the moniker ‘Polarik’, wrote pages of ramblings about how he determined it was a forgery based on JPG files of the image.

A parallel meme began around this time that it was a simple matter to get Hawaiian BC in 1961 no matter where in the world a person was born. After all, someone did it in 1904. How much harder could it have been in 1961? That no examples of this having happened after 1960 is apparently besides the point.

Anyhow, with every other approach meeting with either a dead end or a sheer cliff, it has been declared that only by examining the “Long Form” the ‘Birthers’ would be able to demonstrate foreign birth by some manner that has yet to be disclosed. Some believe that there is a cover-up and the long form contains a note like “Phoned in by Grandma Dunham in late November” or that BHO’s father was actually Malcolm X. Others believe there is a cover-up and the long form was amended without leaving any kind of legal paper trail. Others still argue that there is a cover-up and that Hawaiian state officials have perjured themselves in official documents while Kenyan politicians clearly are not mistaken or simply lying to play to the crowd.

In short, there are numerous reasons. Some moderately sane. Most a little dodgy. A few quite certifiable.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter.

For those who have already decided that he is hiding something, no amount of document release will satisfy them unless it contains something clearly incriminating BHO with what they wish for him to be incriminated by.

That rather begs the question as to why they think they’ll actually get documents released if there is such incriminating information on them. But I digress….

Examples of completed long forms from that era have been located. There’s no provisions for the listing of ‘religion’.

But my guess too for why the situation remains as it is, currently BHO gains more benefits than detriments from the ‘Birther’ movement.

Maybe he really does have something to hide. I am rather skeptical that he wouldn’t have anythign to hide. But I doubt it’s the birth records. But it will sure help deflect attention from other issues later if they can say things like “Didn’t the last bunch of kooks have their lead lawyer get fined and disbarred?”

“His COLB does NOT match Hawaiian records.”

But what leads you to conclude this as the records have not been made public?

“In fact, they haven’t even admitted to releasing ANY BC info to him (short or long form) EVER, since 1961 !”

And while the state of Hawaii hasn’t explicitly said, at least to my knowledge, that they had issued him that particular COLB nor have they denied it. A lack of denial actually says more about the veracity of the COLB than a lack of admission. Especially if the COLB contains false information.

Societies that condemn themselves with this kind of comatose leadership have no business admiring strangers from offshore and yearning for a visit from people like Obama. In the final analysis, Obama is an American president like all others before him. He is in Ghana to ingratiate himself with the present generation of American African slaves of yesteryear, through visiting their ancestral lands. He already came to Kenya to sanitise his own ancestry ahead of his successful presidential bid. He did not want this to be an election issue. He has been to dictatorial Egypt to pacify the Islamic world. There is nothing to bring him to Kenya, and I doubt that it is important for him to come to Kenya – to bring what? Ultimately, our destiny is in our own hands.
