I have a very dear friend in Los Angeles who is feeling very uneasy about the current state of affairs that our country is now enthralled in…She began the pre-election cycle as a Democrat that was in support of Hillary and soon joined so many others in becoming a P.U.M.A…I think that you were too Rose, right?….Anyway, she wrote a really good article and emailed it to me…She told me that it was a therapy of sorts to put her feelings and obvious intuitions down in print…I really enjoyed her words and I think that you all will too….She is one of my very best friends and I love her so much.
“I’ll take Logic for 2000 Alex”

Something is happening in our country, searing into the very fiber of our American Soul. The signs are glaring, palpable and disconcerting. We are being shattered into divisive rubble, as emotional sparks of anger, mistrust and fear ignite the fuse. How did we get here?

The Bush years were long. The theme was fear. We watched changing colors alert us to threats of terrorism. We endured “stay the course” and a President who struggled with basic English. The color we most remember was Grey.

Enter Mr.Hope and Change. His meteoric rise to center stage was breathtaking. He was charisma wrapped in technicolor with an orator’s gift from Heaven. His political rallies resembled religious revivals infused with hysterical euphoria. America was on a sugar high and their candy of choice was Obama.

Then there was Hillary. She eclipsed the Chosen One in experience and all matters pertinent to holding the highest office in the land. In short, she was prepared to take on the job of POTUS.

But Americans wanted “cool”. Fascinated by celebrity, charm and superficiality. Obama, the manufactured candidate, filled their vacuous minds with a raison d’etre. The stolen anthem ‘yes we can” drowned out any common sense and logic.

And so here we are as hope and change morph into doubt and status quo. The promise of transparency and open government replaced by Masters of deception and expanding abuses of executive power. The obscene spending, and glaring propensity to reward Wall Street as Main Street wallows in the mire.

The fierce collaborated effort to brand dissenting Americans as a “mob mentality”, hooligans, racists, nazis, an egregious tactic to silence free speech. If that wasn’t bad enough, the Obama administration encourages reporting on fellow Americans who dare to protest his badly flawed healthcare plan. New lines have been drawn. Dissent is now unpatriotic. Criticism, the Achilles Heel of our new President.

The post racial candidate now unable to conceal his own racism, inciting an even greater divide between blacks and whites. (Gates/Crowley)

Dizzy from the warp like speed accession of a stranger we thought we knew, the fear and unrest is growing. The “storm” is gathering strength as Americans begin to stir. Uncertain where our country is headed, with anxiety permeating throughout our country.

We have what we deserve because a majority of Americans refused to use any hint of logic. Instead they allowed themselves to be tricked by the magic show of the best con man our nation has ever witnessed. And now the Magician is making the country we once knew, disappear.

I don’t believe it is. LC has been insinuating that Farah is playing a game of hype to boost his business. A game when lives are at stake loses its fun and crosses ethical boundaries. To withhold vital information for personal gain makes one complicit. I have had reason to believe that what Farah is hinting to is additional BC documents, possibly from Kenya. However, I am not certain and do not wish to mislead. I will say this, on numerous occasions WND has played into the red herring of a HI BC. This, along with LC’s and others’ comments, has led me to suspect Farah as being at best short on wisdom and at worst an agent provocateur.

Even if Farah is withholding information out of confidentiality, opportunity for authentication or protective caution, the hype is in no one’s interest but his own.

  5. igaveup Says:

From other thread. I had posted a scenario based on Farah’s twitter. I had thought that uncle Frank was the daddy with Ann, but my other scenario is Gramps (think elongated face) with an AA female, with Ann to raise.

Madelyn was working in the Bank. Certainly someone would know if she was expecting?

Counteracting Townhalls – Obama’s Organizing for America.

Anyone know how to get this out to Townhall and Teabag Organizers?

OFA has sent out an email telling members to make direct one-on-one appointments this summer with their Congressional reps.

They have put this page up on the OFA website to help members set up the appointments. Anyone can use it – like us.

  31. sdee Says:

Here is the email directly form Obama’s organization – OFA. This is our President speaking:

“”As you’ve probably seen in the news, special interest attack groups are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it’s getting ugly. Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can’t let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand.””

    OFA member —

All throughout August, our members of Congress are back in town. Insurance companies and partisan attack groups are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President’s plan, and it’s extremely important that folks like you speak up now.

So we’ve cooked up an easy, powerful way for you to make a big impression: Office Visits for Health Reform.

All this week, OFA members like you will be stopping by local congressional offices to show our support for insurance reform. You can have a quick conversation with the local staff, tell your personal story, or even just drop off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you.

We’ll provide everything you need: the address, phone number, and open hours for the office, information about how the health care crisis affects your state for you to drop off (with the option of adding your personal story), and a step-by-step guide for your visit.

According to our records, you live near Sen ____ office in ______

Sign up now to visit Sen_______ office in ______ this week.

(Not your representative, or think there might be another office that’s easier for you to get to? Click
    to find a different office.)

As you’ve probably seen in the news, special interest attack groups are stirring up partisan mobs with lies about health reform, and it’s getting ugly. Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can’t let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand.

Office Visits for Health Reform are our chance to show that the vast majority of American voters know that the cost of inaction is too high to bear, and strongly support passing health reform in 2009.

Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before. The congressional staff is there to listen, and your opinion as a constituent matters a lot. And if you bring a friend, you’ll have more fun and make an even greater impact.

Click below to sign up for an Office Visit for Health Reform:

Wherever you live, these visits matter: Many representatives are pushing hard toward reform, and they are taking a lot of heat from special interests. They deserve our thanks and need our support to continue the fight. But those who are still putting insurance companies and partisan point-scoring ahead of their constituents must know that voters are watching — and that we expect better.

Earlier this week, the President wrote that “this is the moment our movement was built for” and asked us all to commit to join at least one event this month. This is the way to answer that call, and rise to the challenge of this moment together.

Thank you for going the extra mile when it matters the most,

Feds Holding Back $100 Million in Drill Leases
Published: Monday, 10 Aug 2009 | 7:44 AM ET Text Size By: AP
Brian Wixom’s company has paid the U.S. government hundreds of thousands of dollars for leases to drill for oil and gas on federal lands over the years, only to never put a rig in the ground.

The money simply sits in a federal bank account as Wixom and other drillers wait for an agonizing bureaucratic process to run its course.

As it turns out, the federal government is holding a boatload of money for leases it auctioned and sold but hasn’t issued, holding them back for bureaucratic review because of environmental protests and lawsuits. The backlog grew exponentially under the administration of President George W. Bush as it pushed for more domestic drilling.

The Associated Press has calculated that the government is sitting on close to $100 million paid for millions of acres of energy leases in the Rocky Mountains that have been withheld for as long as seven years, according to records and interviews with BLM officials in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.

Drillers are steamed by the process. They don’t understand why the federal government is sitting on such an enormous sum of money, especially at a time when politicians in Washington are so focused on spending stimulus money to revive the economy.

“It’s just crazy that the government, because of bureaucratic delays, is sitting on that kind of money,” said Kathleen Sgamma, government affairs director for the Denver-based Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States. “Talk about an economic stimulus.”

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar got an earful from oilmen on the issue during a “listening tour” stop in Salt Lake City in May. Then only a few months on the job, Salazar vowed to find out more about the process.

“We think the government should issue the leases we purchased or give the money back,” Wixom told Salazar.

Officials acknowledge the leasing delays have grown worse, but say their hands are tied by legal wrangling that allows anyone to challenge a lease on public lands. Environmentalists seized on this option during the Bush years as the administration rushed to drill more, making the delays even longer.

“It’s gotten very complex,” said Kent Hoffman, deputy Utah director of lands and minerals for the Bureau of Land Management, the federal agency in charge of energy development on public lands. “We have to answer the protests in a very legal fashion, knowing the next step could be the Interior Board of Land Appeals or federal court.”

So-called protest parcels have always been auctioned on a buyer-beware basis, yet that did little to deter speculators, brokers, drillers and oil companies in the past. It used to be that protests were resolved fairly easily — either a parcel was fit for oil and gas development or it wasn’t. Now things have turned into “this long-term suspense,” said Larry Williams, Utah director for the American Association of Professional Land Men.

“It’s money sitting in the government’s bank, not doing anybody good,” Williams said. “It’s just sitting there. The government can’t use it, because they may have to give it back.”

BLM records show the agency has been holding 46 leases belonging to Wixom’s International Petroleum, a Salt Lake City family firm with backing from outside investors, for administrative review since 2005. Par Five Exploration of Orem, Utah, and its affiliates have hundreds of thousands of dollars tied up for parcels that the companies paid from as far back as 2005.

“If you don’t issue them, it’s the same as taking them away,” said Kimball Hodges of Par Five.

According to Hodges, it’s like buying a car but not being able to take delivery of it — and worse, not knowing if or when the car will ever arrive on a dealer’s lot.

“When you pay for something, you expect to get it,” he said.

The Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance takes credit for helping gum up the works.

“Leases were being issued at a breakneck rate throughout the Bush administration, and we were challenging that because they were being sold in spectacular landscapes,” said Stephen Bloch, a staff lawyer for the wilderness alliance.

The complaints have become more common since Salazar in February scrapped the leasing of 77 parcels that were offered at a Utah auction in the final days of the Bush administration. Salazar said the parcels were too close to wild areas or national parks.

In a rare exception, Salazar ordered the return of that auction money.

Yet, according to agency records, the BLM is holding leases worth more than $40 million in Utah, around $50 million in Wyoming and $1.2 million in Colorado. BLM officials say that in Colorado, that amount grows to $6.9 million including withheld leases on coal, uranium and potash rights.

Other holdups continue. On June 23 in Salt Lake City, the BLM held what it initially described as a protest-free auction, which would have been the first time in seven years no parcel was being offered under protest of any group.

That changed during the auction, when Selma Sierra, the director of the BLM’s operations in Utah, decided that every one of the drilling parcels offered or sold at the auction was, in fact, under protest. Sierra decided at that point to accept protests that had been filed after a deadline by the Denver-based Center for Native Ecosystems and the Washington, D.C.-based Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.

Hoffman said it could take months for his team to scrutinize the 31 parcels sold to make certain each one withstands environmental scrutiny required by federal law.

  34. sdee Says:

I just used the above OFA link.

This is well organized. What is most valuable about it is that IT GIVES YOU OPEN OFFICE HOURS OF YOUR REP without having to dig away in their website

You do not need to put in your phone number if you do not want to. Just put in some text like “do not phone”.

They do not really schedule you (it is yet another Obama trick to gather email address 😉 ), they just direct you to a link with the text I included below.

I am going to follow the instructions- although I think I will leave my my own words 🙂

We need to show up at these office at the hours!

Office Visit Guide for Health Reform

Call ahead. Some offices may change their office hours with short notice, so just call ahead to confirm that the office will be open when you intend to visit. There’s no need to schedule an appointment unless
you’d like to have a longer conversation with the staff.

Print out the attached flyer. If you can, print out this document. On the second page is a flyer which highlights the facts of the health care crisis in your state, and lays out the 8 Health Insurance Guarantees
that every citizen can count on under the President’s vision for health reform. Write out why this matters to you. At the bottom of the flyer is space for you to hand write a short personal message to your member of Congress about why it’s so important to you to pass health
insurance reform in 2009, such as a personal story about your experience with the health care system.

This will ensure a written record of your visit and your message and make your trip even more effective.

Introduce yourself. Office resources vary, so you may be speaking to the office director, caseworker, or simply the person at the front desk. Make sure whoever greets you knows that you’re a constituent, and
you’re there to express your support for passing real health insurance reform in 2009.

If you only have a moment, just make sure they record your name, address and where you stand on reform. (Make sure to leave the flyer you filled out with them as well!)

Share your story. If you can take a few minutes and you want to make an even bigger impression, ask to speak to whomever handles health care issues in that office. Tell them why health insurance reform is
so important to you. If you feel comfortable, please consider sharing a personal health care story about yourself or a loved one. Take your time and speak from the heart. This is not a debate, and you don’t need
to be an expert, just someone who knows firsthand why we urgently need reform.

Ask for their support. Before you leave, ask if your member of Congress will commit to supporting the President’s call for real health insurance reform in 2009.

Stay calm and positive. While some are attempting to disrupt and shut down debate, our goal is to engage in meaningful, respectful discussion. Remaining calm, positive and polite while speaking to any staff member is the best way to be heard.

Thank them for their time and hard work!

Share the details of your visit. It’s really important for our campaign to hear how these conversations go and how the staff respond. To tell us how it went, please go to:

Have questions? You can learn more about health insurance reform at

grammy, YouTUbe depends on thier “COmmunity” to flag stuff for deletion. Mmost of the time conservative stuff gets pulled off YouTube when the highly organized obot network floods youtube with flags all at once. Although Google my not be pulling them, a Google employee or contractor would have to make a decision to repost a banned video – that is where the bias would come in.

We could get Leftist stuff like the Beck hate video pulled and further clog up the youtube policy process – we just do not have the network of action.

What (Dems) really need is a plan that doesn’t scare old folks, the parents of special needs children, and everyone with employer-based insurance they like. Then they need a way to gag the CBO.

Perhaps the president will ask Hillary to send the reset button over to the White House. At this point, if the president does jam it through, not only will he wreck American health care, he’ll greatly damage the Democratic Party in 2010 and 2012.

Wise Blue Dogs might want to ask Pelosi understudy Steny Hoyer how he’d like a turn in the Big Chair accompanied by a delay until data arrives on the November votes on two Democratic statehouses in two states carried by the president just 10 months ago -New Jersey and Virginia.

Catholic Organizations’ Support for Health Care Reform Follows the Money Trail
Has drastically muddled the Catholic response to the debate raging on Capitol Hill

    By Kathleen Gilbert

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 7, 2009 ( – A clash between Catholic pro-life groups and major Catholic organizations on whether Congress should enact immediate health care reform has drastically muddled the Catholic response to the debate raging on Capitol Hill. But as one Catholic editor has noted, the conflicting messages on whether to push health care reform could be traced to at least one organization’s monetary interest in such reform.

The struggle came to a head last week with news of an “action alert” released by Catholic Charities USA, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and the Catholic Health Association (CHA) calling on constituents to contact Congressmen urging the passage of health care reform “now.”

Noting that the Obama-sponsored legislation is underway, the group wrote only that there are many “details” in the bills that “still need to be developed” and that nonetheless “we must maintain momentum for health care reform efforts with calls and emails supporting health care reform immediately.”

Pro-life leaders are vigorously fighting the bills which, as confirmed by an Associated Press report, would now explicitly expand abortion. The groups denied that they intended to support the current legislation, but were merely fighting the general “pressure to keep the status quo” in the American health care system.

If so, pro-life Catholics questioned, why did the groups step up the pressure at the very same moment President Obama was attempting to ram the troublesome bill through Congress?

Jack Smith, editor of the Kansas City-St. Joseph diocesan newspaper The Catholic Key, says part of the problem lies in “confusion over the nature of the Catholic Health Association and [CHA president] Sister Carol [Keehan]’s role.”

The Catholic Health Association, he explains, is actually a trade association, unlike other Catholic entities driven solely by altrustic goals.

The Catholic Key reported on Aug. 6 that Sister Carol’s “compensation at Catholic Health Association is $856,093. This in an organization whose expenses are only $17,660,797. Three other employees at CHA each make more than $300,000.”

“CHA is not a repository of Catholic social teaching with regard to health care or an association of moral theologians or a charity in service of the poor,” wrote Smith. “It is a trade association.”

While “there is nothing wrong with a trade association,” he added, “too many reporters, including members of the Catholic press, have sought comment from CHA without recognizing they are primarily an organization with a vested financial interest in the outcome of the health care debate.”

Though CHA has redoubled its affirmations that it only supports reform consistent with “the dignity of life,” the organization threw its weight behind Obama’s plan for health care reform early on. On a July 8 visit to the White House, Sister Carol Keehan represented CHA among a group of hospital associations that had committed $155 billion in Medicare and Medicaid savings over several years to help cover the cost of health care reform.

The American Life League (ALL) has raised concerns over the Obama administration’s ties to both CHA and Catholic Charities USA, which also joined the recent push for health care reform.

On July 20, Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) announced that it has received a contract for $100 million for aid relief from the federal Department of Health and Human Services. CCUSA president Fr. Snyder, who is a member of President Obama’s Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, hailed the contract as “a very strong endorsement of who we are and what we do, and powerful recognition of the donors who support us and who we will now need to count on more than ever.”

According to the CCUSA press release, it is the first-ever federal contract granted to the 100-year-old organization.

Evidence from a investigation points to CCUSA playing a central role in gathering support among Catholic organizations for immediate health care reform, despite the current bill’s abortion mandate and other serious problems.

When pro-life groups began questioning CCUSA’s push for immediate health care reform, Father Snyder responded by denigrating the credibility and motivation of the groups. He called the criticism “politically motivated by opponents of health care reform.”

“They are distortions of the truth and disingenuous,” said Snyder. “Catholic Charities USA will continue to work to reform health care in a way that is consistent with the teachings of our faith.”

Judie Brown, president of the American Life League, said the groups’ involvement with the Obama administration, coupled with their apparent complacency over the health legislation’s abortion mandate, paints a troubling picture.

“All of this leads one to wonder what exactly Obama has been stirring up,” said Brown.

“His administration has been persuading various so-called Catholic leaders that-regardless of Catholic magisterial teaching-there is a seat at the table for Catholics who will set aside the tragedy of abortion for the supposedly greater cause of ‘reforming’ health care, via Obama’s virtual fiat.”

Catholic commentator Phil Lawler published a list of critical data points on the Obama administration and health care reform.

A plan to tax health plans (via the Senate Finance plan) could create an AMT-type situation where rising inflation causes it to affect more and more Americans each year.

John Reiss, executive producer for “Hardball” and executive producer for MSNBC political programming, acknowledged the potential problem in giving too much coverage to conspiracy theories. But he said it was appropriate for Chris Matthews to spend so much time trying to shoot down the rumors.

Reiss said the birther issue has become “part of the American conversation.” He pointed to the viral video of a birther woman shouting at Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) during a Delaware town hall and at a recent Daily Kos/ Research2000 poll in which 58 percent of Republicans expressed doubts over whether Obama was born in the United States.

“At that point,” Reiss said, “you realize it’s not just a fringe movement.”

But even Reiss acknowledged that all the debunking may not have much of an effect.

“I would love to tell you that after a week or so of doing this story, we put it to rest,” Reiss said. Looking back, he added, “I don’t think it changed anyone’s mind at all.”

Tsongas: I won’t take ObamaCare because I have better options

No, Representative Tsongas, you’re not creating choice.

You’re restricting choice, both explicitly and implicitly.

The ObamaCare bill explicitly forces private insurers into conformity in dictating coverages in order to qualify under state “exchanges”, which greatly reduces choice and will almost certainly wipe out at least some existing private plans.

Implicitly, the public option will undercut private insurers and give businesses a chance to opt out of providing coverage at all — which means as many as 83 million Americans will lose their insurance in the first ten years.

Thanks to the rules set up by ObamaCare, those people will have no choice at all but to take the public option.

August is THE crucial month! While the Senators and Congressmen are home in their districts, let’s give them a barrage of attacks on Obama’s proposals to deform our health system! Even as public opinion has turned against the plan, he still has sixty votes in the Senate and an ample margin in the House to pass it. Unless we unleash a FIRESTORM of public outrage, the bill will pass! And your own personal health care will never be the same.

    Here’s how to fight it:

    1. Arm yourself with the facts: Read Chapter 4 in Catastrophe, “Obama’s Health Care Catastrophe”, which details how Obamacare will destroy American health care and explains what has happened in Canada!

(Left out #2 – Donate Money)

    3. Email your friends, family and associates: We need a massive outpouring of public opinion. Email your Christmas card list, your colleagues from the office, your friends, and your family. Bring them the facts about health care and Obama’s dangerous proposals. Think particularly of anyone you know in the following states (where the key Senators live):

    a. Maine (Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snow)

    b. New York (Senator Kirsten Gillibrand)

    c. Virginia (Senator Mark Warner and Jim Webb)

    d. Indiana (Senator Evan Bayh)

    e. Ohio (Senator John Voinovich)

    f. North Carolina (Senator Kay Hagan)

    g. Florida (Senator Mel Martinez)

    h. Louisiana (Senator Mary Landrieu)

    i. Arkansas (Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln)

    j. Nebraska (Senator Ben Nelson)

    k. South Dakota (Senator Tim Johnson)

    l. Iowa (Senator Chuck Grassley)

    m. North Dakota (Senators Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan)

    n. Montana (Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester)

    o. Wyoming (Senator Michael Enzi)

    4. Write or call your Senators and Congressman

I have just written Senator Kay Hagan. If there are those of you here from these states please do the same.

Tumultuous Environment Makes a Health Care Compromise More Unlikely

    A Greater Danger

The backdrop is political danger for the president’s party, with fat budget deficits and high unemployment increasing the risk of traditional midterm election losses. In Mr. Conrad’s view, 2010 “could be a very challenging year.”

Revamping one-sixth of the United States economy without Republican help would compound those anxieties. Yet many Democrats perceive greater risk in failing to deliver as Washington’s governing party — and stand ready to act under special “reconciliation” rules that would heighten partisan tensions by blocking Republican filibusters.

“The proof of the pudding in this is not going to be who votes for it, if you have Republicans or not,” said Mr. Schumer, who is heavily favored to win a third term in 2010. “It’s going to be when it passes and when it goes into effect: does it work?”

A Democrats-only course poses its own challenges; some elements of health care legislation may not qualify for action under “reconciliation” procedures, which are intended only to reduce the deficit.

“The parliamentarian has told us if you try to write substantive legislation using reconciliation, you’ll be left with Swiss cheese,” said Mr. Conrad, who is also chairman of the Budget Committee. Moreover, he added, reconciliation would require stricter budgeting that would make it “almost impossible” to meet Democratic liberals’ goal of near-universal coverage.

But Mr. Conrad feels the impatience of fellow Democrats, and he acknowledges that time is running out.

“We’ve got to find a way to reach a conclusion,” he said, “or we’ve got to find another way to get the job done.”

(Bullshit, time is running out! Just get the job done in the private sector!)

An Examination of the Wyden-Bennett Health Reform Plan

Key Issues in a New Approach to Universal Coverage

In January 2007, he and Sen. Robert Bennett, R-Utah, introduced the Wyden-Bennett health care reform plan.

So far, it’s is the only reform option in the fractious health care debate that the Congressional Budget Office has said pays for itself.

But it does not include a public option.

  88. rosettasister Says:

US healthcare reform looks to the Swiss

As Americans prepare for major surgery on an ailing health-care establishment, lawmakers and pundits say elements of the Swiss system could provide the tools.

    20-80 rule

The question of how best to overhaul the US system is largely one of economics.

Regina Herzlinger, a Harvard Business School professor, studied the Swiss system for her book, Who Killed Health Care. She says the Swiss health system is an excellent model for the US.

To revamp the US system, Herzlinger argues that Americans should be required to buy their own insurance, as in Switzerland, instead of having employers purchase it for them.

“When people buy their own health insurance with their own money they think about value,” Herzlinger said. “I don’t want someone else to buy my car, my house, my food or my clothes, so why do I let them buy my health insurance?”

In developed countries, 20 per cent of the population generates roughly 80 per cent of the health care costs. Mandatory coverage is key. When everyone pays, the healthy can subsidise the chronically ill. When they don’t, the system collapses. Consumers still have the right to buy coverage that is best for them.

    Competitive health

Health insurance companies also need dusting off. In Switzerland, administrative costs consume on average five per cent of health insurance revenue. In the US it’s closer to 20 per cent.

More importantly, high consumer demand has created 87 private Swiss health insurance companies that offer an enormous menu of services. In Massachusetts, a state about the same size as Switzerland, there are five such companies.

To ensure equal access, the government must step into an otherwise free-market scenario. In Switzerland, federal regulators determine what services a health insurance company must cover. Premiums are based on a person’s age and residence. No one can be turned away or suffer high rates because of illness.

But an insurance company could go broke if it had too many chronically ill clients and no healthy ones.

For Swiss companies, it makes little difference if you’re a beacon of fitness or in need a heart transplant. A joint foundation overseen by government regulators redistributes high profits earned off healthy clients and divides them among companies with expensive, unhealthy ones.

“Switzerland is right in the middle between what the US has now and more state-driven systems like in Britain,” Gutzwiller said.

“We might not be as efficient as we could be but the basic lesson here is that you develop a system with regulatory framework and not just based on employment status.”

    The White House, Washington

    Dear Friend,

Anyone that’s watched the news in the past few days knows that health insurance reform is a hot topic — and that rumors and scare tactics have only increased as more people engage with the issue. Given a lot of the outrageous claims floating around, it’s time to make sure everyone knows the facts about the security and stability you get with health insurance reform.

That’s why we’ve launched a new online resource — — to help you separate fact from fiction and share the truth about health insurance reform. Here’s a few of the reality check20videos you can find on the site:

    * CEA Chair Christina Romer details how health insurance reform will impact small businesses.
    * Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes tackles a nasty rumor about euthanasia and clearly describes how reform helps families.
    * Matt Flavin, the White=2 0House’s Director of Veterans and Wounded Warrior Policy, clears the air about Veteran’s benefits.
    * Kavita Patel, M.D., a doctor serving in the White House’s Office of Public Engagement, explains that health care rationing is happening right now and how reform gives control back to patients and doctors.
    * Bob Kocher, M.D., a doctor serving on the National Economic Council, debunks the myth that health insurance reform will be financed by cutting Medicare benefits.

There’s more information and a number of online tools you can use to spread the truth among your family, friends and other social networks. Take a look:

    Health Insurance Reform Reality Check

We knew going into this effort that accomplishing comprehensive health insurance reform wasn’t going to be easy. Achieving real change never is. The entrenched interests that benefit from the status quo always use their influence in Washington to try and keep thing s just as they are.

But don’t be misled. We know the status quo is unsustainable. If we do nothing, millions more Americans will be denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions, or see their coverage suddenly dropped if they become seriously ill. Out-of-pocket expenses will continue to soar, and more and more families and businesses will be forced to deal with health insurance costs they can’t afford.

    That’s the reality.

Americans deserve better. You deserve a health care system that works as well for you as it does for the status quo; one you can depend on — that won’t deny you coverage when you need it most or charge you crippling out-of-pocket co-pays. Health insurance reform means guaranteeing the health care security and stability you deserve.

President Barack Obama promised he’d bring change to Washington and fix our broken, unsustainable health insurance system. You can help deliver that change. Visit, get the facts and spread the truth. The stakes are just too high to do nothing.

    Thank you,

    David Axelrod

Progressive Future is part of HCAN and so not surprisingly, if you jump over to their site, you find that one of their headline items is pushing Obama’s health reform agenda. They aren’t hiring themselves, but they do refer people looking for a job to, you guessed it, Fund for the Public Interest.

But here I think is the smoking gun. This page on the Progressive Future site describes the action they are taking to fight for health reform. It says:

[T]his summer is the key time to ramp up the public pressure for reform. Every member of Congress needs to hear from us, that we won’t wait any longer for real health care reform.

Progressive Future is stepping up to the challenge:

We’ll be sending out hundreds of canvassers in nine cities across the country to talk directly with more than 50,000 citizens about the need to solve our health care crisis, building our rapid-response network, and engaging supporters immediately.

I think that probably settles who is ultimately hiring all those summer canvassers (click on that job listing image above if you haven’t, they are for summer canvasser jobs making $4,000-$6,000). I haven’t nailed down how many cities these craigslist listings have appeared in but I’m going to guess nine.

It’s also worth mentioning that, according to this page, Progressive Future is looking for people to “fight the hecklers” who are involved in a “fake grassroots” plan (read: astroturf) to disrupt town hall meetings (So I guess they’ve been reading Lee Fang). Clicking on one of those pages gives you a list of upcoming town hall events with little radio buttons so you can indicate which one you plan to attend to help “fight” the hecklers.

I’ve contacted both Progressive Future and Fund for the Public Interest seeking comment on the nature of their partnership. Not that I think any more clarification is necessary at this point, but around here we don’t do things the way Lee Fang at Think Progess does. So I’m giving them a chance to set the record straight. If I receive a response from either group, I’ll post it.

Just to sum up the big picture here based on what we know now… One of HCAN’s partners is mobilizing people nationwide to “fight” against opponents of reform and is partnering with a group that has put ads for paid canvassers ($4,000 to $6,000 for the summer) on Craigslist nationwide. In effect, HCAN is hiring people to literally get in people’s faces and push Obama’s agenda.

This is what the left considers “grassroots.” Meanwhile, a memo written by a guy in Connecticut which was sent out to 10 people is proof that reform opponents of Obama Care are part of a deceptive astroturf campaign. Hopefully that’s all making perfect sense now.

On the downside for Dems, the astroturfing argument is over. On the plus side, working for “reform” pays better than McDonalds.

Update: I suspected this might be the case, but it looks like Ed at Hot Air has found the ultimate source of money going to all these HCAN canvassers.

Update #2: I just received this e-mail from Progressive Future:

U.S. PIRG and the state PIRGs are also doing a lot of work on health care, and are partners with the Fund. For info on Craigslist ads, please contact the Fund directly. You can find them at

Sort of a strange, non-denial denial. US PIRG may indeed be working with Fund for the Public Interest, but so are you according to FFPI’s website. My question was what are you partnering with them on and is it those Craigslist ads? I’m going to follow up and see what I get. Still no response from FFPI.

Update #3: Okay I’ve exchanged a few more e-mails with Progressive Future. I asked again about the craigslist ads and the response I got from the Adam Lioz at PF was that they had indeed worked (past tense) with FFPI back in May and June. Here’s a portion of his e-mail (btw, I told him up front everything was for publication):

[W]e were working with the Fund to canvass on health care in nine cities in May and June, and we plan to do more canvassing through the Fund in the future. I’m sure they do plenty of recruiting on Craigslist, but we hire them to recruit members and educate the public and they are the experts that determine how best to do that…

So they worked with them in the recent past and plan to do so again in the near future, but they aren’t hiring canvassers just now. At least that’s the implication, though he never really says so.

I should also add that Adam also says in this e-mail that the present tense statements on his website are a result of it not being updated recently. He said he just completed an update which should take effect (changing all this stuff to past tense) shortly. Of course the PPFI site also lists them as a current partner, but maybe their site is out of date too…?

Still no response from FFPI. Time to make some calls.

Update #4: Contacted FFPI at the number listed on their website. The person I spoke with knows of three environmental campaigns going on now, but hasn’t heard of one related to health reform. He suggested I contact the local FFPI office for more info.

I called the state-wide office and the person there didn’t know anything about it either. The only person who might is in Boston for training so I was invited to submit my question by e-mail and they’d get back to me. Okay, but how is it there is someone able to pay canvassers $4,000-$6,000 dollars to work on health reform, but no one at the group placing the ads knows who is hiring them?

Update #5: This is interesting. A job listing on Philadelphia craigslist from PennPIRG, that’s the state chapter of Public Interest, which has a link to that same website for interested applicants. So maybe it is US PIRG that’s doing the current hiring on Craigslist.

Of course this doesn’t change much. What we’ve learned so far…

Progressive America has contracted FFPI to hire canvassers to work on health reform as recently as June.
US PIRG is apparently still hiring canvassers to work on health reform, paying up to $14 an hour.
Someone want to explain to me how the tea parties were astroturf but this is grassroots?

Update #6: Here’s another one from Sacramento that specifies CalPIRG. So I think that settles it. US PIRG is the group doing the hiring.

Oh and in case you’re wondering, US PIRG is also an HCAN affiliate, so my headline stands. HCAN affiliates are hiring people at $9-$14 bucks an hour to push ObamaCare.

Final update (I hope): Caleb Howe, who broke the original story has a follow up featuring what I’ve found plus work by a few others. What’s faker than astroturf? is here

Obama on Health Care Reform: Let’s Go Bankrupt Faster
    John on May 17, 2009

The video of Obama’s townhall appearance in New Mexico is seven minutes long, but worth watching if you care about the future of health care in America:

Let’s diagram his answer (shame on you if you’re too lazy to watch the clip):

I campaigned on reform…I’m optimistic about getting it done
Health Care is 1/6 our our economy…we have to be practical
Control Costs – “If we insured everyone under the current system…we’d go broke.”
Costs are up for consumers and businesses
Medicare is going broke. Medicare is the #1 “driver” of deficits.
“By far the biggest contributor to our annual debt is medicare and medicaid, social security, defense and service on the debt.”
“What’s driving us into debt is health care.”
If we emphasize prevention and wellness…
    If we expand health IT…
“There are simple things we can do that will save us money.”
Universal coverage…if everyone has coverage then we get preventative care.
“Might cost the federal government overall a little more…”
    Why not do single payer?
    What is single-payer?

Answer: “Medicare is sort of a single payer system but it’s only for people over 65.
You don’t have insurance companies as middle-men.
If I were starting from scratch, I’d go single-payer
We have a system of employer based care
We don’t want a huge disruption in care
Let’s have a system where people who are happy don’t have to change, and…
People who don’t have coverage or are not happy can enroll in a “public plan that you could enroll in and sign up for.”
I’m working with Congress. The bill is coming.
We’re going to get it done this year.
Now, look over that diagram of what he said. Do you see the problem? You should because I’ve made it easy by highlighting it in blue. Actually, there are several problems, but I’m just focusing on the most serious one.

Oh, there’s one missing bit of data you need to fully see the problem. What Obama calls the “public plan” is usually referred to as the “public option”. So just what is the public option?

    It’s Medicare.

Not exactly. They might readjust some fine points. But basically it’s Medicare. In fact, some have called the plan “medicare-for-all.”

Currently, Medicare covers about 35 million seniors. But the academic who helped write Obama’s plan has said that, if it’s enacted, about 40% of the US population would end up on the medicare/public option.

Obama wants to triple the size of the program that is bankrupting us.There are about 300 million people in the US. If 40% are on the public option, Medicare grows from covering 35 million Americans to 120 million within a year or two. In other words, Obama wants to triple the size of the program that is bankrupting us. Amazingly, he even says it might cost a little more to do it. Yikes!

I found an article that explains why Medicare is bankrupting us in real budget numbers. To really appreciate it, you’ve got to understand some basic accounting, so slog through this next excerpt. I promise it’s not that hard and you’ll learn something (I did anyway):

Cash accounting is what the government uses for its books. This computes net income or deficit by counting only cash income “in” and cash expenditures “out” during the year.

Accrual accounting, in contrast, also counts legally incurred rights to receive future income and obligations to make future expenditures that accrue during the accounting period.

Accrual accounting is used in the private sector — in fact, cash accounting is illegal for most businesses much larger than a newsstand. The reasons should be obvious, but a simple example can make them clear.

Say you are a business manager and make a deal for the business under which it receives a net $1 million cash payment this year. That looks good! But wait … suppose that to get this payment up front you commit the business to make a $10 million payment to the other party ten years from now.

Using accrual accounting the $1 million of cash received up front is offset by the present value of the $10 million commitment to pay in the future — which is that amount reduced by the market rate of interest for that long. If the interest rate is 5%, the present value of $10 million payable ten years from now is $6 million.

So when using accrual accounting — as required by law and your accounting firm — you are seen accurately to have created a $5 million loss for the business. You have some explaining to do to your boss.

But imagine that instead you use cash accounting. Then the $1 million that comes in today boosts the business’s income and profits by fully that much while the attached $10 million liability is ignored. The business’s owners don’t know about the liability because it’s not reported on the books. They give you a fat profit-sharing bonus, you take it, retire, and are long gone when the $10 million bill lands on them and everyone else in the business as a surprise — bam! — in the future.

Did you make it through that? If not, read it one more time. Now here’s the payoff vis a vis Medicare (all number for 2007):

Now imagine that instead you are the U.S. Congress. You exempt the federal government — that is, yourself — from using the accrual accounting methods that you impose by law on everybody else, and have it simply use cash accounting for programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, federal and military pensions, and so forth.

Thus, for Social Security and Medicare for instance, you have the government count all the FICA taxes it receives in their name in income, and you use them to declare “Deficit reduced to only $163 billion!” — while ignoring the more than $2 trillion of attached liabilities for Social Security and Medicare, present value, that accrue in the single year…

Add to the liability for Medicare and Social Secutity the reported increase in other on-balance sheet liabilities of $290 billion, and the one-year in increase in the net liabilities of the federal government becomes $2.384 trillion. (And there’s more, the real final number is bigger yet — I’m not counting other off-balance sheet liabilities for the likes of Medicaid, federal and military pensions and such because I don’t want to become too depressed to continue).

    Some perspective:

All federal income taxes, individual and corporate combined, in 2007 totaled $1.534 trillion.

The word unsustainable comes to mind.

Now the good news is that we haven’t really spent this money yet. We’ve only promised to spend it. We can change the program so we’re forced to spend less, at least in theory. We can, for instance, raise the retirement age for social security or cut benefits Medicare provides. But those aren’t the proposals on the table. Instead, in the middle of a recession with record levels of debt already on the books, Obama wants to triple the size of Medicare.

Here’s another thought…How about we control costs first. Once we show that we can do that…then we expand the program. I mean, if we can control costs with a public option, we should be able to control costs within medicare as it is now. They’re basically the same thing. How about some proof of concept before we triple the size of the program that’s bankrupting us.

There’s an old saying that seems to suit the times we’re living in. Nothing concentrates the mind like a hanging. The public option is a noose for the American economy.

When a President Lies: Why Linda Douglass Should Resign
    By Jeffrey Lord on 8.11.09 @ 6:09AM

And the Arthur Sylvester Award for Lying in Service to the Government goes to…Linda Douglass, the Obama communications director for the White House Office of Health Care Reform.

Who was Arthur Sylvester and for what did Ms. Douglass, a former ABC News reporter, win this dubious award?

Arthur Sylvester was once the one-man Washington bureau for the Newark Evening News, a prominent New Jersey newspaper that folded in the early 1970s. He had the good fortune to be one of a handful of journalists covering an underdog presidential candidate in the early stages of a presidential race, when access to the candidate was free and easy — long before the days of Secret Service coverage, mammoth staffs and 24/7 cable TV news cycles.

So it was possible for Arthur Sylvester in 1960 to get significant face time with the candidate, a Massachusetts senator named John F. Kennedy. JFK remembered, and as the New Frontier and its Band of Brothers gathered in Washington in 1961, Arthur Sylvester stepped up to glory wearing the new title of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. His new boss: the aptly named and now recently deceased Secretary of Defense Robert Strange McNamara.

Mr. McNamara, as has been recounted all over again with his passing, was one of the architects of America’s Vietnam policy. Mr. Sylvester, the Linda Douglass of his day, was charged with explaining that policy to the journalists covering McNamara and the Pentagon, not to mention to the American people.

Alas, as the American people would slowly — very slowly — discover, the Vietnam policy being implemented by Mr. McNamara and JFK’s self-esteemed team of “the best and the brightest” was one of the worst debacles in American history. One of the reasons it took so much time to understand what was going on was that Mr. Sylvester (among others) was being less than forthcoming about what was actually happening as the policy moved along the track.

Sylvester’s role in all of this was immortalized in the 1972 bestselling book that begat the term, The Best and The Brightest. The book was a searing indictment by Pulitzer Prize-winning liberal journalist David Halberstam of all the “best and the brightest” who populated American liberalism in its governing heyday. The story was a meticulous tick-tock of those supposedly brainy liberals — the “whiz kids” as they were called in the moment — who flocked to Washington and wound up creating the bloody disaster of Vietnam policy that would define the Kennedy-Johnson era in American and world history. Or, as Halberstam himself said in a phrase that is an eerily appropriate assessment of the Obama-ites now trying to get control of one-seventh of the American economy, they were arrogantly devising and executing “brilliant policies that defied common sense.”

Sylvester’s job was to sell the whiz kids’ Vietnam policy to Americans in precisely the way Ms. Douglass is assigned to sell the Obama health care plan today. The problem? Let’s let Mr. Halberstam describe it:

In Saigon…Arthur Sylvester, McNamara’s press officer, was arguing with a young New York Times reporter named Jack Langguth over the government’s lack of credibility in its Vietnam statements. Sylvester said that although it was unfortunate, there were times when a government official had to lie, but that he, Sylvester, as a former newsman, had a genuine objection to lying. Langguth answered that if you had a real objection to lying, you would quit, and the failure to resign meant that you had a soft job where you could exercise power, and that your principles were secondary. Sylvester looked at him almost shocked.”If you believe that, you’re stupid and naïve, (said Sylvester) and you didn’t seem that way at lunch earlier today.”

On another occasion, Sylvester was even more succinct:

“Look, if you think any American official is going to tell you the truth, than you’re stupid. Did you hear that? — Stupid.”

On still another occasion, Sylvester asserted a “right” that most observers did not see in the Constitution: “the inherent right of the government to lie.”

Mr. Sylvester’s infamous tenure comes to mind as Ms. Douglass has put herself front and center to challenge video clips of her boss that have appeared on TV (“SEIU Health Care Forum 3/24/07”). Contrary to the President’s new fable that his health care program is designed to preserve the right of Americans to keep their own private health care insurance, he is pictured pre-presidency saying something quite different.

Here is Obama speaking to the Service Employee International Union in 2007. As all can see from this once buried treasure now on Breitbart, it shows candidate Obama saying: “My commitment is to make sure that we’ve got universal health care for all Americans by the end of my first term as president….I don’t think we’re going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There’s going to be, potentially, some transition process: I can envision a decade out, or 15 years out, or 20 years out.”

Shown as well on this tape is Obama saying at an AFL-CIO conclave: “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care plan…that’s what I’d like to see.” There are others on the tape, but they are members of Congress and while they are saying the same thing as the President in fairness they are not Ms. Douglass’s responsibility.

What is her responsibility is to accurately and truthfully tell the American people what the President and his staff are really about, what their goals are, what they are doing and why they are doing it.

In response to the discovery of tapes showing candidate Obama explain exactly what his goals are in health care policy, Ms. Douglass answers with a White House video of her own. She says that the idea we have just seen Mr. Obama say exactly what he said with our own eyes is just not so. In fact “nothing could be farther than the truth”

What does Obama say in the Douglass video? He says: “Here’s the guarantee that I’ve made. If you have insurance that you like then you will be able to keep that insurance. If you’ve got a doctor that you like you will be able to keep your doctor. Nobody is trying to change what works in the system. We are trying to change what doesn’t work in the system.”

Notice the central untruth here. On the one tape, unedited and not shown by Douglass Obama says:

“I don’t think we’re going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There’s going to be, potentially, some transition process: I can envision a decade out, or 15 years out, or 20 years out.”

Yet Douglass shows him saying something quite different:

“If you have insurance that you like then you will be able to keep that insurance….Nobody is trying to change what works in the system.”

In other words, back in the days when the presumed-Democratic nominee was Hillary Clinton and very few people were paying attention to Barack Obama as he prowled the left-wing caverns of his party, the future president felt free to state his health care plans in crystal clear language. His goal, he said, is to “eliminate employer coverage” although he admits there’s going to be a transition process that is “15 years out, or 20 years out.” He leaves no doubt at the SEIU and the AFL-CIO that:

“I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care plan…that’s what I’d like to see.”

Single-payer, universal health care would, of course, eventually eliminate the private insurer, the backbone of employer-based, high-quality health care. It would effectively herd most Americans into a “public option” plan that would not be shared by elites, be they the wealthy, Members of Congress current and past, presidents and former presidents, Hollywood celebrities and so on. ObamaCare’s critics have used the term “Trojan Horse” to describe the Obama answers as presented by Douglass and the President himself. As in the ancient story, once the Obama “public option” is through the gates, private insurance will, as the President himself said when no one was looking, eventually be eliminated, even if it takes 15 or 20 years to do it.

While the President and his critics disagree as to whether this should be done, in fact they both agree that this will in fact be the end result if the President gets his way. The President himself says flatly that is his objective. Based on his actions since taking office, with government controlling everything from General Motors to banks to financial institutions, there is no reason to doubt his stated intentions on health care.

Having shown us one set of tapes but not the other, in wonderfully Sylvesterian style Douglass looks the camera in the eye and, assuming the rest of us are stupid, says: “It’s very important for you to have the facts.”

And with that, Linda Douglass wins her Sylvester.

THE REALLY DISTURBING PART of this comes right about now, as it begins to dawn on startled Americans — as it was slowly dawning on the journalists covering Mr. McNamara in the early 1960s — that officials representing the government have made lying about policy a policy unto itself. In Sylvester-speak, they are watching another set of government officials who believe, like their Vietnam-era predecessors, that government has “an inherent right to lie.”

The only difference here is that instead of lying about Vietnam we’re talking about lying about health care.

It is now crystal clear that the Obama administration is lying about the president’s goal of achieving a single-payer health care system. Let’s be even more blunt:

    The President is lying.

And Ms. Douglass has specifically gone on camera to lie for him — just as Arthur Sylvester lied for Robert McNamara and the two presidents for whom McNamara worked.

There are consequences for presidents who do this or who are perceived as doing this. LBJ and Richard Nixon lost their presidencies when it came clear to Americans that they had not been told the truth about Vietnam (LBJ) and Watergate (Nixon). George H.W. Bush’s breaking of his “read my lips — no new taxes” pledge opened him to charges of lying — and cost him re-election. Bill Clinton came within an ace of losing his job — and effectively lost most of his second term — when he lied over Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones. While there is not a single shred of proof to this day that George W. Bush knew there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq but lied and invaded anyway, the perception — deliberately pushed by people like then-Senator Obama — is that if he didn’t lie then he “misled.” However you slice it, the perception was damaging to the remainder of the Bush presidency.

And yes, as someone who served in the Reagan White House during the Iran-Contra affair, it must be said that while President Reagan never thought he was “trading arms for hostages” (and in truth, I’m not sure he ever did believe this in his heart-of-hearts, as he indicated), he finally went to a disapproving American people and said this:

“A few months ago I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that’s true, but the facts and the evidence tell me it is not. As the Tower board reported, what began as a strategic opening to Iran deteriorated, in its implementation, into trading arms for hostages. This runs counter to my own beliefs, to administration policy, and to the original strategy we had in mind.”

With that apology, the American people forgave a president they liked a lot. Several staff members lost their jobs. The Reagan era proceeded, the polls stabilized and the President got back to his job.

Which makes the Obama lie on health care reform all the more ironic. Having reached the presidency propelled by those insisting Bush was a liar, to now be caught on videotape lying quite specifically and in detail about his health care objectives has the potential for being a torpedo amidships for the political ship Obama.

Just as it did with LBJ, Nixon, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton and Bush 43, the perception of lying or the discovery of an actual, quite deliberate lie shifts the debate from one about the substance of the president’s program itself to the much worse and increasingly angry perception by average Americans that they are being quite deliberately lied to. “You’re lying to me!” barked a self-identified Democrat to House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer in a YouTube moment. Hoyer was in Utica, New York, to discuss high speed rail, a subject about as far from health care as one can get. The challenge to him by a fellow Democrat named Don Jeror came first on the stimulus bill — not health care. “I recognize a liar when I see one,” snapped Jeror. Hoyer’s response? To praise the construction of the Erie Canal in the 1800s.

At least Sylvester had the lack of 24/7 cable news and the Internet going for him. Linda Douglass doesn’t have that luxury, but it certainly hasn’t fazed her. With a seeming nonchalance if not eagerness to please her boss and staff seniors, she has quite deliberately gone on camera to assume the role of a 21st century Arthur Sylvester. She has looked the American people right straight in the eye and, in spite of the quite vivid video evidence to the contrary, told us all something that we now know to be a complete Sylvester-style untruth.

Which is to say: a lie.

The implications for the health care debate as it goes forward are considerable. As the understanding grows that the President’s staff, not to mention the President himself, is willing to deliberately lie about health care — just as Sylvester and his bosses did with Vietnam — an entire presidency can be undermined. “It’s only about sex” went the plaintive defense of Clinton aides during the impeachment imbroglio. While there were plenty of people who thought it was about other things — perjury being but one — if one accepts the Clinton standard — and many people did — one can only come up with bad news for Obama.

The “it’s only about sex” defense implied that the whole issue just wasn’t important. There is not an American out there who believes their health care isn’t important. It would be almost impossible to touch a more sensitive nerve in the American psyche. Even the controversy of war, necessitating as it always does the physical service of the mostly young and (these days) volunteers, doesn’t have the impact of messing with the health care of every breathing American. Millions of Americans may never get closer to military service than the movies. Not everyone has skin in the game in the sense of a family member or friend walking around Iraq or Afghanistan. But you can take it to the bank that every single citizen has skin in the game of health care. And they know it.

Which means that once they understand the President and his staff are, in the tradition of Arthur Sylvester, all too willing to deliberately lie — there will be hell to pay.

That hell is only now showing up in all these town meetings. And Obama’s allies, following the White House strategy for dealing with opposition (“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” says deputy chief of staff Jim Messina) are taking the Obama staff’s message to heart. At a Missouri town hall meeting for Democrat Russ Carnahan, union goons wearing SEIU shirts beat up a young black entrepreneur named Kenneth Gladney, sending him to the hospital for simply trying to make a buck selling flags and buttons to the crowd. Remember exactly where Mr. Obama made his single payer pledge on the video? You got that right: at a gathering of the SEIU.

Linda Douglass has apparently chosen to take the Arthur Sylvester approach to government service. If she wants to avoid being immortalized in history books forever as the Obama White House staffer who was willing to boldly look into the camera lens and lie for her boss — quitting now would help. Otherwise, she will lose her reputation and credibility in the same fashion Sylvester lost his, becoming one more person for whom, as Halberstam noted long ago, “the failure to resign meant that you had a soft job where you could exercise power, and that your principles were secondary.”

Failing that, Ms. Douglass would be better served if she advised her boss to simply tell the truth. And the truth for President Obama is that he’s a believer in single-payer, universal health care and he hopes to eliminate private insurance down the road.

He said it. He quite obviously believes it. He’s now trying to do it. Lying about it will not help his cause.

    Or her reputation.

Those 14 words, perhaps more than any others in the U.S. Constitution, have inspired discussions, arguments and legal debates for years and years.

Now, legislation introduced in January by Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) and lingering in the House Judiciary Committee has stirred up emotions on both sides of the gun control issue and once again brought these words into the spotlight.

Rush’s bill, the Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act (H.R. 45), establishes a federal licensing and registration regime under the direction of the U.S. Attorney General and would make it a criminal act not to register as an owner of a firearm.

    The bill will also:

    · Establish a federal licensing requirement for ownership of handguns and semiautomatic weapons, not including antiques, with application requirements which include a photograph of the gun owner, fingerprinting of the gun owner, a current address, a completed, written firearms safety test, and private mental health records. These licenses must be renewed every five years;

    · Create a federal registration database for handguns and semiautomatics to which every new sale or transfer — including transfers among private individuals — in America must be reported within 14 days;

    · Require a background check to be performed in any transfer of guns and provides penalties of up to two years in jail for failure to comply with any licensing or background check requirements.

    · Establish penalties of up to 10 years for parents whose children gain access to their firearms unless they meet certain federally-established requirements.

It should be noted there are already federally required background checks for purchasing weapons. A government database of all gun owners or longer waiting periods will not keep criminals from getting their hands on a gun.

Furthermore, this bill does nothing to curb the criminals who would use handguns to commit a crime. Just the opposite — it would turn law-abiding citizens into lawbreakers for overlooking one of many forms or address verification.

Any bill which would require photographing and fingerprinting for simply possessing a firearm flies in the face of our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees — and as the U.S. Supreme Court definitively ruled in District of Columbia v Heller — the American people have the right to keep and bear arms.

As a member of the National Rifle Association and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, I will work with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to promote legislation protecting our constitutional rights and oppose legislation, such as H.R. 45, which restricts such rights.

We need to work harder to ensure the safety of our citizens, but we must do so in a way which protects our Constitutionally-guaranteed rights.

Our country’s founding fathers understood how important the principle of the Second Amendment is in ensuring our basic freedoms. They had faith in the citizens of America. We should have the same faith in our fellow countrymen today.

The U.S and its Economic state

I heard of this supposed Bankster Holiday a month ago. What I didn’t realize was the credentials of the person(s) that is predicting that this may happen.

HSL Harry Schultz Letter was named “Newsletter of the Year” by Peter Brimelow of Market Watch in 2005 and 2008.

HSL was also ranked #2 among the Top 10 most profitable newsletters (for subscribers ) in 2005 by Hulbert Financial Digest.

HSL (International Harry Schultz Letter) is the world’s premier international investment, financial, economic, geopolitical, privacy, sociological and philosophical newsletter.

HSL is now in its 41st year with subscribers in 71 nations.

Bob Chapman of the International Forecaster who is also well respected predicts this could also happen.

I can’t say whether this will happen with any certainty, I hope it doesn’t happen. I personally trust what these people are saying verses what the government is telling me.

Might not hurt to get some extra cash out of the Bank before the 26th Aug. that’s up to you guys.

The reason the 26th is mentioned is because the 25th is when the FDIC who is close to being out of money gives there report and the government feels that it may cause a run on the banks.

I understand that it is hard to prepare for everything going on at this time.

Pray about it and listen to what Yahweh tells you.

And second, it should announce that it does not recognize Mahmoud Ahmadinezhad as the legitimate president of Iran, call for the release of all political prisoners and encourage a peaceful and political solution to the Iranian crisis, one in which the people will have the final say.

Mitt Romney on the national debate over Obamacare

    [audio src="" /]

HH: Seniors seem to have mobilized against this.

Have you ever seen a bill pass over even lukewarm opposition of seniors, much less the kind of aggressive opposition that we’ve seen in the last two weeks, Mitt Romney?

MR: Well, I must admit if the seniors really say wait a second, we do not want to see this kind of wholesale change in the health care system in this country,

we are not comfortable with it,

I think if Congressmen and Senators hear a strong plea from the seniors, and they get e-mails and letters, and they see an outcry from seniors,

I think they’re going to say whoa, wait a second, particularly the blue dog Democrats are going to say hey, you know, I just got sent here to Washington because I said I was a conservative Democrat.

And if it turns out that this is going to kill me, well, I’m going to be out of office.

That I think is the only real strong prospect for stopping this huge power grab that the Obama administration has in store for health care, and

that is getting conservative Democrats to say wait a second, my constituents are speaking loud and clear, I’m not going to go against them.

HH: Last question, you’re on the road a lot, Mitt Romney, for Republicans who are bracing for 2009 in Virginia and in New Jersey, and the 2010 elections.

Are they united on health care?

Are they united in their opposition to a government plan?

MR: I haven’t heard a single Republican say that they’re in favor of the Barack Obama government insurance plan.

I haven’t heard anybody say they want to do that. Republicans have different views.

Republicans have put out different health care plans.

*** Senator Bob Bennett, together with Senator Wyden of Oregon, a Democrat, put together a health care bill, has a very interesting aspect to it I think is interesting. ***

The Labor Department said business productivity rose by 6.4% between April and June ― its most rapid rate in six years ― while labor costs were slashed 5.8%, the largest cut in nine years, owing to mass layoffs and little pressure on wages.

“The combined efforts of workers and business to grind out solid productivity gains through the recession is unequivocally good news –

an underlying reality of solid fundamentals

that has been overlooked by the economic doomsayers and naysayers for many months,”

said Brian Bethune, chief US financial economist at IHS Global Insight.

Bethune said productivity gains should create a basis for businesses to create new jobs, while benign inflation should allow the Federal Reserve to maintain low interest rates in the medium-term.

“The fact that American workers are capable of generating these amazing productivity gains ultimately is good news for employment –
    as the economy moves

from recovery in the second half of 2009 and the first half of 2010,

to potential expansion in the second half of 2010 and beyond,” he added.

“There is no doubt that businesses will have a strong desire to add more of these high quality workers into their teams.”

The drone attack took place near the small mountain town of Kanniguram in South Waziristan, a stronghold of Mehsud.

There is nothing wrong with asking that all candidates show a hard copy of a valid certification of live birth to a government offical prior to the election. Unfortunately, when certifiable nutcases are also spinning wildly implausible conspiracy theories of a Kenyan birth coverup, the legitimate issue doesn’t get taken seriously.

That is the great tragedy of the birther movement.

63 posted on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 11:25:11 AM by curiosity

    To: curiosity; xzins

I don’t consider that a tragedy. It’s just common sense. When someone declines repeated requests to settle the issue via a simple request to HI authorities, and instead chooses to fight it tooth and nail, of course people will speculate why.

And though it may seem far fetched at first glance that any of these speculations are reasonable, the more one learns about the utter lies this man has told and continues to tell, the less far fetched they become.

The truth is, there are so many shades of “birther” that it makes almost no sense to lump them together. People like Andy McCarthy and Rush and Lou Dobbs indicate they believe he may well indeed be a NBC, but demand proof from Mr. Transparency.

Others are outraged that no mechanism is in place to verify NBC status at any level of government, and concentrate on correcting that glaring deficiency.

Many smart folks follow the Donofrio and Apuzzo theory – that REGARDLESS of his birth location, his dual citizenship disallows NBC status. They have an excellent, reasoned argument worth airing.

And many more just know that Obama is a serial liar and suspect that he is hiding something quite embarrassing about his biography, and therefore jump in with the others, thinking at least it will damage O’s credibility if he was lying.

And then there are others like me that don’t buy any of the theories floating out there in whole….yet, but know that the tightly scripted statements from HI officials most assuredly are CYA statements and don’t begin to illuminate what the hell happened in August of 1961.

And the media covering his ass only adds fuel to the fire. Remember the Bush ANG story? The media was covering it like it was Watergate. For no good reason other than some rumors and the fact that not every stitch of his records had been made avaialble. Bush relented, and still they scrutinized the records with a fine tooth comb after the fact, and culminated in CBS’s crapola.

Even if the “birther” story is too far fetched for the media to properly investigate (tho not too far fetched for them to go into hysterics on a daily basis slamming the ‘birthers’), there are so many other aspects of Obama’s history they could and should be interested in. College records, perhaps…

Or how about a very well respected black civil rights icon, Percy Sutton, claiming on live TV that his first exposure to Obama was when he was asked by a man named Khalid al-Mansour to write a letter of recommendation to Harvard Law School for Obama. Nothing but f***** crickets from the MSM.

“If the President of the United States really has nothing at all to hide in the past he has so sought to conceal, then why has he concealed it at all?”

    In Defense of the Birthers

Agree with them or not, the Birthers are just trying to answer the perfectly legitimate questions created by the patent dishonesty about and obscuration of most every aspect of Barack Obama’s life.

    Who can blame them?

As for those of us who don’t subscribe to the conclusion of the Birthers, the truth is that even worse questions remain for us.

After all, if the answer isn’t that Mr. Obama is not a legal American citizen, then the question that remains is how is it that a young man who was born here, was raised here, is from among us could be so foreign in his views of who we are as a people?

What weakness in our system has allowed to fester on our own streets beliefs, loyalties, and sensibilities so antithetical to the ones that have so long defined, propelled, and strengthened us?

And perhaps even more troubling – If the President of the United States really has nothing at all to hide in the past he has so sought to conceal, then why has he concealed it at all?

Is it simply distrust of his fellow citizens, or dislike?

Does he think himself so far above the rabble that he is simply beyond having to expose himself to our judgments?

Or is it that Barack Obama simply wants to be left alone to define his own life, to continue writing his own narrative unencumbered by fact or evidence or inquiry, leaving history to believe about him whatever he himself conceives or constructs?

Is he a leader whose legacy is his own declaration?

If so, he may be even less American than the Birthers themselves fear.

    Here is info I received:
National Guard’s involvement/responsibility concerning what is happening to our country. Plz read very close the following information. The National Guard will fall under the US Army/DOD orders. This all started back under the Bush admin.

” In a stealth maneuver, President Bush has signed into law a provision which, according to Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), will actually encourage the President to declare federal martial law (1). It does so by revising the Insurrection Act, a set of laws that limits the President’s ability to deploy troops within the United States. The Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335) has historically, along with the Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385), helped to enforce strict prohibitions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement. With one cloaked swipe of his pen, Bush is seeking to undo those prohibitions.

Public Law 109-364, or the “John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007” (H.R.5122) (2), which was signed by the commander in chief on October 17th, 2006, in a private Oval Office ceremony, allows the President to declare a “public emergency” and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to “suppress public disorder.”

Who officially confirms that a member of the House of Representatives is at least 25 years old, has been a citizen for seven years and lives in the state from which he is elected?

Or that a Senate candidate is at least a 30-year-old, nine-year citizen and lives in the state he represents?

None of the wiseacres who have been laying it on the birthers seems interested in the question, choosing instead to use the debate as another opportunity to jeer and taunt the “wing nuts,” “Obama haters,” “right-wing zealots” and various species of alleged goofballs who have raised the question about the president.

Some info on Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDOS)

How is a DDoS executed against a website?
A website DDoS is executed by flooding one or more of the site’s web servers with so many requests that it becomes unavailable for normal use. If an innocent user makes normal page requests during a DDoS attack, the requests may fail completely, or the pages may download so slowly as to make the website unusable. DDoS attacks typically take advantage of several computers which simultaneously launch hundreds of thousands of requests at the target website. In order not to be traced, the perpetrators will break into unsecured computers on the internet, hide rogue DDoS programs on them, and then use them as unwitting accomplices to anonymously launch the attack.

Q4: Is there a quick and easy way to secure against a DDoS attack?
No. From a simplistic perspective, the best solution is to secure computers from being hijacked and used as attack platforms. This cuts the problem off before it can ever manifest. Thus many experts suggest that we “pull together as a community” to secure our internet computers from becoming unwitting accomplices to such malicious intruders. Unfortunately, for every business that has the knowledge, budget, and inclination to make such changes, there are many more which lack such resources.

Plus, the attackers are most likely going to use non-commercial computers as attack platforms, because they are usually easier to break into. University systems are a favorite, because they are often understaffed or the systems are set to minimum security levels to allow students to explore the systems as part of their education. Further, this is not just a national problem. Any internet server in the world could be used as an attack platform.

Still, the simplest and most effective solution for preventing DDoS is through a global cooperative effort to secure the internet. The first step in the process, therefore, is concerned with scanning your internet computers to make sure they are not being used as unwitting DDoS attack platforms. This is not just good internet citizenry, however, because this also serves to document and verify that your internet computers are not suspect when DDoS attacks occur.

Update: Man at Obama Event Associated with Free State Project

    by DefendUSx August 11, 2009 16:40

    August 11, 2009

Earlier today Infowars reported that a man photographed by MSNBC with a sidearm and pro-liberty sign at an Obama event in New Hampshire may be a federal agent planted to discredit the patriot movement.

In a capture of the video an earpiece of the sort commonly worn by the Secret Service and federal agents can be seen. The man in question also has a placard with the web address of Restore the Republic, an organization founded by the late Aaron Russo in 2007.

Infowars contacted Gary Franchi, managing editor of Republic Magazine, a periodical associated with Restore the Republic. Franchi confirmed that the individual in the video is associated with Chris Lawless and the Free State Project. The placard is recycled from the April 15 Tea Party.

Chris Lawless acted as an organizer for the Free State Project’s annual Liberty Forum in 2008.

“The Free State Project is an agreement among 20,000 pro-liberty activists to move to New Hampshire, where they will exert the fullest practical effort toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of government is the protection of life, liberty, and property,” the Free State Project website explains.

Lawless explains on Franchi’s Facebook page that the earpiece is in fact hardware for a patriot radio network. “I know the guy,” Lawless writes. “There were 4 others also wearing earpieces. They do that to call each other in case of a problem. We also have something called PORC 411 here in NH.”

PORC 411 is short for Porcupine 411, a rapid message distribution network. Porcupine 411 is used to report the locations of speed traps and sobriety checkpoints, reporting unusual or improper police activity, distress calls related to roadside detention or imminent arrest, and upcoming social events, activities “or almost anything else of immediate interest to liberty lovers,” according to the PORC 411 website.

LaRouche: `Obama Is Now Impeachable’ For His T4 Plan Thanks Rick
Posted on August 12th, 2009 by Lynn Dartez

“July 24—When President Barack Obama delivered his nationally televised press conference on July 22, in which he pressed for legislation that called for an “independent board of doctors and health-care experts” to be established as a means of cutting health-care costs, he crossed the line. Lyndon LaRouche, America’s leading economist and statesman, who has been warning of the dangers of the President’s Nero complex with ever-greater urgency since his April 11 webcast, responded immediately, with the following statement:

President Obama is now impeachable, because he has, in effect, proposed legislation which is an exact copy of the legislation for which the Hitler regime was condemned in the post-World War II trials. It is an impeachable offense to propose such a thing in this time. With this statement from him, the President now deserves impeachment.”

ALG Blasts DHS Methodology Used in “Rightwing Extremism” Memo Revealed in Freedom of Information Response by Department

August 11th, 2009, Fairfax, VA—Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson today condemned the methodology used by the Department of Homeland Security in issuing a controversial “right-wing extremism” threat assessment to law enforcement in April as “complete speculation.”

“Our worst fears about what went into this memo have been confirmed. The government department that was supposed to be tasked with identifying domestic terrorist threats is apparently using news stories, kooky websites, and conjecture instead of actual hard intelligence reporting and analysis,” said Wilson.

“This is a disgrace, and calls into question what it is that the so-called ‘Extremism and Radicalizaton Branch of the Homeland Environment Threat Analysis Division’ actually does,” Wilson added.

Americans for Limited Government filed a Freedom of Information request in April demanding all documents related to the drafting of the controversial “right-wing extremism” memo. It has now received an interim response from the Department related to “All data and all studies, reports, or other documents regarding data created or reviewed by the Department in general to draft the Report… [and] on the specific groups listed in the footnote on page 2 of the Report that were used by the Department.”

Those studies and reports included 217 pages, “releasable in their entirety, all of which are publicly available,” according to the DHS FOIA response. All of the data used by the Department are available via the Internet. A summary of the web-links is included here.

In a recent edition of the Clews-Todd Report, ALG top researcher Don Todd recently gave his assessment of the memo and DHS’ FOIA interim response, “Here you have a bunch of government bureaucrats surfing the web that come up with this crackpot website [], and then they alert all the police agencies in the country to look out for veterans, pro-lifers, and people that believe in states’ rights.”

FOX News today exclusively reported on DHS’ response to ALG’s freedom of information request.

“Not a single study or report was from any government source,” said Wilson. “And again, there was no evidence of any actual active recruitment of ‘disgruntled veterans’ by these groups, no evidence showing that folks who purchase guns or oppose gun-control legislation are necessarily dangerous, and no evidence that the economic downturn or the election of Barack Obama that is fueling any actual ‘resurgence’ of ‘extremism.’”

The memo had reported that “rightwing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans”.

“We already knew that the memo did not illuminate on any actual planned attacks or any groups known to be planning attacks, or any groups with histories of perpetrating attacks that are currently conducting any types of operational recruitment, meeting, or planning attacks,” said Wilson.

“And now we know why,” Wilson added, explain, “The background DHS used was not based on credible intelligence sources, reporting, and analysis. Instead, what we found is that the Department was apparently surfing the net to see what news stories happened to turn up to support a pre-determined conclusion,” Wilson explained.

In defining “rightwing extremism,” the Department of Homeland Security memo targets “groups, movements, and adherents… that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority” and “groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

“We now know for a fact that DHS was monitoring political speech and thought, whether on the Internet or via other forms of communications,” said Wilson, pointing to websites included in the DHS FOIA response that tracked gun-control legislation.

The memo had claimed that “Many rightwing extremists groups perceive recent gun control legislation as a threat to their right to bear arms and in response have increased weapons and ammunition stockpiling, as well as renewed participation in paramilitary training exercises.”

Previously DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano said, “We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not – nor will we ever – monitor ideology or political beliefs.”

“DHS’ response to our freedom of information request unfortunately confirms in no uncertain terms that their hunt for ‘rightwing extremists’ was nothing more than a witch hunt,” Wilson concluded.

Lost Dog Saves Man With Down Syndrome From Nearly Fatal Seizure
    Monday, August 10, 2009

July 22: RaeLee saved the life of Christian Mason, 21, in Port Tampa, Fla.
PORT TAMPA, Fla. — Yolanda Segovia heard a knock on her door one morning, just before 8 a.m.

Her neighbor was on the porch, with a dog and a story.

Stacey Savige had found the little dog in front of an elementary school. He wasn’t very big, looked like some sort of terrier. Burrs clung to his belly. His honey fur was caked in mud.

He didn’t have a collar. Stacey had taken him to the vet and he didn’t have a chip, either.

Now Stacey had to go to work. Could Yolanda keep him?

Yolanda is 47. She’s a divorced mom with two boys. In recent years she has survived breast cancer and cervical cancer, lost her dark hair and eyelashes to chemo. A hairdresser, she hasn’t worked since 2006.

“You can leave the dog here,” Yolanda told Stacey. “But just for today.”

They took photos of the dog and made a FOUND flier. Stacey ran off 4,000 color copies. She and Yolanda stuffed mailboxes, put ads on Craigslist.

Yolanda took her boys to the dollar store and bought a collar, leash, ball and brown bed. Her 10-year-old, Azaiah, decided to call the dog RaeLee, pronounced “Riley.” He said he had heard it on TV. All afternoon, he walked the dog, threw the ball, laughed while the dog licked his face.

“Don’t fall in love with him,” Yolanda kept warning.

Her elder son, Christian, 21, watched through the window. Christian has Down syndrome and an array of other ailments. He has had heart surgery, a kidney transplant. He can’t speak or bathe himself.

That night, when the boys climbed into their bunk beds, the dog dragged his new bed from Yolanda’s living room, down the long hall, into their room.

Four days later, they still had the dog. He was starting to answer to his new name.

He loved roughhousing with Azaiah, knew to be gentle with Christian. He almost never barked.

On Saturday, Azaiah went to his dad’s house. Christian retreated to his room to watch a Barney video. The dog dozed beside him.

Yolanda had just stepped onto her porch to water the plants when the dog flung himself into the screen door, barking madly.

As she opened the door, the dog sprinted across the living room, into the boys’ room.

Yolanda screamed. Christian was slumped over, his body writhing in a seizure, blood streaming from his nose and mouth.

The dog ran to the boy, still yelping. But as soon as Yolanda bent to cradle her son, the dog went silent.

“If he hadn’t come to get me,” Yolanda told Stacey later, “the neurologist said Christian would have choked on his own blood and died.”

Since no one had claimed the dog, Yolanda decided to keep him.

Stacey got a call the next morning. A man named Randy had recognized his lost dog and called the number on the flier.

Stacey sobbed. She had been working so hard to find the dog’s owner. Now that he had found her, everything seemed wrong.

She quizzed the man to make sure the dog was really his: Is the dog fixed? What tricks does he do? The man answered things only an owner could. His name is Odie, the man said.

Randy Cliff, 34, is an unemployed plumber who lives six blocks from Yolanda with his wife, their four children and infant granddaughter. He said he had been searching for Odie for more than a week.

Stacey told him, “That dog saved my friend’s son.”

When the van pulled up outside Yolanda’s house, the dog raced out and jumped into Randy’s arms. Randy buried his face in his dog’s soft fur.

Azaiah stood on the porch, crying. “We’re going to miss you,” he called.

As Randy remembers it, he looked at the boy. He saw Christian’s frightened face in the window. “Is that your brother?” he asked. Azaiah nodded.

Randy set the dog by Azaiah’s feet.

“Maybe Odie was supposed to find you,” Randy said. “Maybe you should keep him.”,2933,538724,00.html?test=latestnews

U.S Govt. Spends MORE Taxpayer Dollars on Healthcare Per Person Than ANY Major Developed Country
From Tim Andrews on Monday, August 10, 2009 2:09 PM
Obamacare proponents have long decried the “failure” of free market health care in the U.S. “If only we had more government money” they said! If only we could throw some more taxpayer dollars at it then everything would be okay! The free market has failed, so we need government to step in!

We have a free market in healthcare in the U.S at the moment?

    Yeah, right.

In fact, the U.S Government spends more per person on healthcare than any other major developed country.

I repeat. Per person, when it comes to healthcare the U.S Government spends more per person than pretty much any other government. This isn’t total spending. This doesn’t include insurance or individual payments. This is government spending. Only. These are OUR taxdollars. And we have more government involvment in health than any other major nation.

This is NOT a free market. This is a clear case of government failure.

If Obamacare is enacted, we will be spending close to $4,000 in taxpayer dollars – in the most inefficient way possible. We already spend more taxpayer dollars than Europe on health, and it clearly hasn’t work.

At the moment, the U.S has a world class private system, but also with government muddying the water, interfereing, and creating the many problems that currently do exist.

The solution is NOT to do more of that which has failed. Rather, is it to take advantage of what works: the market.

The solution is NOT more government – it is less.

UPDATE: I’ve altered the graph from the original posting. I’ve added more nations, converted $USD dollar amounts ot the more sophisticated and economically sound PPP, and added the projected per capita additional healthcare expenditure if H.R. 3200 (the Obamacare Bill) is enacted

Like many others I watched the “town hall” meeting in Portsmouth NH with the supposedly randomly selected audience.

    Full video:

    Link changed, updated link:

The second person “randomly” selected to ask a question was a young girl called Julia Hall from Malden MA (asks question at 29m:25s).

Julia read the following question off a piece of paper: “As I was walking in I saw a lot of signs outside saying mean things about reforming healthcare. How do kids know what is true and why do people want a new system that can help more of us”.

This randomly asked question gave Obama the perfect opportunity to dismiss talk about “death panels that will pull the plug on Grandma” and to blame Republicans for everything. Over on the town hall comments thread AtomicPunk09 discovered someone on facebook who might possibly be Julia’s mother and had a photo of her with Obama:

All old information and it cannot be proven that Kathleen is Julia’s mother, right????

Hold on, look who is sitting next to Julia in the video:

Another “coincidence” is that Julia said she lives in Malden MA and Kathleen Manning Hall’s campaign contributions list the occupation “Legal Asst, Looney and Grossman LLP” and a home address in Malden MA:

Looks like she donated $636 to Obama in 2008.

    But wait, there’s more:

    This lists donations to Obama of $230 on 6/15/07, $250 on 9/28/07, $500 on 9/30/07, $300 on 3/2/08

On that link we have the $636 previously mentioned from “Kathleen Manning Hall” but we also have $1355 donated to Obama by “Kathleen Hall, Legal Assistant, Looney & Grossman” at the same address.

(as an aside Looney and Grossman loves Democrats – their employees donated $12,101 in total to Democrats and $0 to Republicans)

Back to Kathleen’s Facebook Page, here are some of her Facebook friends that I googled to see if they were Democratic insiders:

Martha Coakley, (Democrat) Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Adam Parkhomenko, former aide to Hillary Clinton, Democrat running for VA House of Delegates (who has the support of the Brady Campaign, President Clinton and Wes Clark)
Addisu Demissie, National Political Director of Organizing for America and former Ohio Get out The Vote director of Obama for America
Adrienne Elrod, Chief of Staff to Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA)
Alan Rosenblatt, Associate Director for Online Advocacy at the Center for American Progress (and HuffPost blogger)
Alayna Van Tassel, Budget and Policy Director for MA Senator Pat Jehlen

I could go on and on but I think the point is clear – the cute question about “mean signs” was read from a pre-written note by the daughter of a Democrat political insider who is know to President Obama.
