    Michael Steele calls Obama “LIAR!”

Michael Steele, substituting for Bill Bennett on this morning’s Good Morning America, played a clip of Obama claiming that his Health care proposal would not effect the budget deficit. Michael Steele immediately responded by shouting “LIAR.”

I heard this live early this morning, so I thought I’d add my two cents.

As soon as I heard it, I thought, “Wow, I can’t believe he just said that!”

On second thought, I was glad he’d said it, but I thought it might get him into a little hot water.

It was one of those moments, we’ve all had them, you know, “Did I just say that out loud?!”

Anyways, he immediately realized that he may have crossed a line.

He said things like, “Forgive me” and that he didn’t want to engage in the same “hot” rhetoric toward Obama that had plagued the Bush years.

I thought he handled it well – he admitted a man in his position shouldn’t talk that way.

I do think a distinction needs to be made here – no one is suggesting that Obama lied or misrepresented us into an “unjust, unnecessary” war which led to countless dead and injured.

    It’s hardly the same thing.

Veronique De Rugy, a budget and tax expert for the Mercatus Institute, thinks it’s a philosophical problem.

“Obama stands in front of the TV and he lies. He does not talk about taxes. He talks about spending money.”

Stopping “Madoff Medicine”: Demand The Blue Dog Democrats Kill The Government Option and Contain the Costs of Obamacare

This is a weekend of great significance on the domestic side of American politics as well as reality about the fiscal and operational impacts of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid proposal to radically restructure American medicine hits home.

Yesterday the Washington Post’s liberal blogger Ezra Klein declared the Obama plan in deep trouble.

The New York Times and Post today tell you why:

It is ruinously, outrageously expensive, producing the sort of gigantic costs that would almost certainly lead to deep rationing, and very quickly.

The Times story references a Senate Finance Committee proposal for

“an automatic mechanism would be triggered to achieve those spending reductions” required by ballooning deficits –

which is a long winded way of saying “mandatory rationing of medicine.”

This scheme for a vast expansion of government and enormous run of the money printing press is proposed against the backdrop of out-of-control Medicare spending.

The new “government option” would crush private insurance very quickly and leave the federal government with only one option to pay for the giant obligations it gathered up to itself –

limit or cancel those obligations via federal rules that tightly control what sort of treatment can be given to patients.

They ought to call this scheme “Madoff Medicine,” given that what the Democrats are pushing is a giant fraud that cannot possibly deliver on the promises being made.

The danger is that there are slim majorities in both houses that will take a rhetorical win –a political poster really– as worth the enormous cost of the unraveling of American medicine.

Our current system is expensive and often unwieldy, but it works, and those with insurance greatly value it and the freedom of choice it provides.

The Obama plan proposes to destroy all of that in exchange for the (hyped) promise of universal coverage.

The president continues to say that if you like your plan you will be able to keep it –a deeply dishonest characterization of his proposals which will lead to the dumping by employers of their employees into the government plan.

It is a giveaway that the president cannot level with the public about what he is proposing.

(I do believe this is what Michael Steele was alluding to.)

Watch to see if ABC calls him on that next week.

To stop this crazy and ruinous set of proposals requires moderate Democrats to stand up to their own party bosses and the new president and refuse to be pushed into an obviously disastrous vote for a destructive fantasy.

The Blue Dog Democrats in the House need to hear from you, especially if you are in the health care field, and especially if you are a doctor.

Here’s the contact list with phone and e-mail information. Start with representatives in your own state, and then spread out.

Some elected leaders won’t take e-mail from out-of-state, so ignore them and move on but do try and leave voice mails –polite and specific voice mails

that identify yourself, what you do, and your opposition to the “government option” or “public option” and to the cost of the proposals.

Promise to work against anyone who votes for the government option and to contribute to their opponent.

I will publish a list of senators later today for whom the same effort is also crucial.

The cracks that have developed in the facade of “bipartisan reform” are deepening now that the realities of the push for Canada-style medicine at extraordinary cost are being laid on the table.

People in Iran are fighting and in some cases dying for the right to hold their government accountable and to be heard by elected representatives.

MS: Yes, I mean we read a lot of rubbish, particularly from so-called Washington experts, arguing that the Iranian presidency is a weak presidency, he doesn’t have any real decision-making power, nobody liked him in Tehran.

You used to read all these things about how he has very low standards of personal hygiene, and the ayatollahs used to make jokes about what a hick he was.

That thesis has been knocked out of the water by what happened at the election.

So I think it’s clear that this idea that he was some sort of nuclear eccentric, that’s totally gone, and

I think it’s clear that whatever happens, the march toward a full-blown nuclear status will if anything accelerate.

    The day healthcare reform died?

Do you think my headline overstate things? Listen to the Daily Kos:

Without a public option, I’d rather we stop the absurd talk of “reform” and recognize that any bill passed would mainly be for show, but if we were to seriously consider a bill without such an option, I think the one healthcare reform that would make a difference is to cancel govt health insurance for all senators, representatives, cabinet members, etc.

(Of course we can have real reform without a “public” option. Let’s cover everyone and do away with this “pre-existing” condition nonsense once and for all. But let’s do it the Swiss way and allow the law of supply and demand to work. BTW, they don’t have anything like Medicaid or Medicare in Switzerland, and it works and they don’t have rationing.)

Why Obama’s big economic gamble is failing

    Okay, here’s the thing:

Obama took a tremendous economic and political gamble last January.

The new president had the option of putting forward a stimulus plan that would attempt to reverse or significantly dampen America’s terrible economic downturn ASAP.

The quickest and most effective approach would have been a big cut in payroll taxes.

For $800 billion, combined Social Security and Medicare taxes could have been slashed by 6 percentage points, or 40 percent.

That would have put $1,500 in worker paychecks and, according to one credible study, increased employment by 4 million jobs in 2009.

(I think I’m going to be sick!)

Instead, Obama chose to listen to Rahm “Never let a crisis go to waste” Emanuel and put forward an $800 billion plan that advanced his healthcare, energy and education policy goals — but pretty much neglected the economy in 2009.

Team Obama had to fully understand this.

Indeed, a study from the Congressional Budget Office study — when led by current Obama budget chief Peter Orszag — concluded that an Obama-like economic stimulus package would be “totally impractical” because it would take so long to implement.

    (Thanks a lot, Peter!)

(True enough, only seven percent of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has been doled out so far.)

    Too little, too late.

Then, of course, there is rising unemployment, which is either a lagging indicator of an economy slowly on the mend or a forward indicator of a possible double-dip recession.

Either way, it takes a long time for economic perceptions to change after a nasty downturn. Just ask all those congressional Democrats who lost their jobs in 1994.

Even though the economy had then been growing for 14 straight quarters since the 1990-91 recession and the unemployment rate was down to 5.8 percent from a high of 7.8 percent, 72 percent of Americans still thought the economy was “fair” or “poor” and 66 percent though the nation was headed in the wrong direction.

What do you think the national mood will be like on Election Day 2010 if unemployment is over 10 percent, gas prices near $4.00 a gallon and homes prices moribund?

Certainly by then, the effectiveness of the “Blame Bush” mantra will have hit its expiration date for Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party.

(This really does make me sick because it needn’t have been this way.)

Democrats try to regain health care momentum

Amid the heightened anxiety, the shape of the debate got a lot clearer.

On one side is the House Democrats’ sweeping health care bill. It would require all individuals to obtain health insurance and force employers to offer health care to their workers, with exemptions for small businesses.

*** A new public health insurance plan, strongly opposed by Republicans, would compete with private companies within a new health care purchasing “exchange” where Americans could shop for coverage. ***

Government subsidies would help the poor buy care, and seniors in the Medicare program would pay less for their prescription drugs.

The House Democratic bill, released by the chairmen of the three committees with jurisdiction — Ways and Means; Energy and Commerce; and Education and Labor — left out key details of how it would be paid for.

Democrats are considering everything from taxing soda, to raising income taxes on upper income people earning more than $200,000, to a federal sales tax.

Even before the news conference ended, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele issued a statement warning that the Democrats’ “health care taxfest will include higher taxes on Medicare, soft drinks, alcohol, employers — even a new national sales tax. All of this despite the president’s promise to voters during the campaign that he would not raise taxes on 95 percent of taxpayers and would make health care cost less.”

  24. rosettasister Says:

Kent Conrad’s nonprofit co-ops to offer insurance in competition with private companies (NOT government-run)

Members of the Finance Committee were laboring to produce legislation that could attract Republican support.

To that end, Finance Committee senators were looking at leaving a new public insurance plan out of their bill, instead creating nonprofit co-ops to offer insurance in competition with private companies, according to an outline obtained by the AP.

The co-ops could accept federal loans for start-up operations but would have to repay the money.

Struggling to pare their bill from an earlier $1.6 trillion cost estimate to about $1 trillion over 10 years, Finance Committee members pared back proposed federal subsidies for the uninsured.

The earlier draft would have helped people making up to four times the federal poverty level, or about $88,000 for a family of four.

The new plan: limit insurance subsidies to those making up to $66,000.

    (I don’t get the multiples of $22,000!)

Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., who introduced the compromise concept of creating nonprofit co-operatives instead of creating a government-run insurance plan, also joined the ‘Coalition of the Willing,’ Dow Jones Newswires reports.

That plan appeared in materials describing Finance’s draft version of their bill, however, in its current form,

“[t]he direct government control of the plan could stir complaints from Republicans that the co-op is little different from a public health insurance option, which they have fiercely denounced” (Yoest, 6/18).

A bipartisan group of senators met Thursday to work through differences on health-care legislation, as proposals circulated that would require new employer requirements to provide health benefits as well as requirements that individuals carry health insurance.

The senators, members of the Senate Finance Committee, met in a closed session to iron out differences on health overhaul legislation.

    Participants included

Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont.,

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, the top Republican on the panel, and

    Sens. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M.,

    Kent Conrad, D- N.D.,

    Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and

    Olympia Snowe, R-Maine.

A draft outline of Senate Finance Committee legislation circulating Thursday would require employers to contribute to the costs of federally-subsidized health benefits if they did not give their workers health benefits.

Seven senators have formed a bipartisan group to find consensus on health-care reform legislation, a sign of fresh momentum after a week of setbacks.

Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and

the ranking Republican on the panel, Sen. Charles Grassley (Iowa).

South Waziristan government official Nematullah Khan said Friday ground troops had started taking up positions around strongholds of Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud, who is blamed for a series of suicide attacks in Pakistan that have killed more than 100 people since late May.

“Troops have entered Mehsud’s areas” for the first time, Khan told The Associated Press.

Mahmood Shah, a retired brigadier and former chief of security of the tribal regions, said one army division of up to 20,000 troops was based in South Waziristan and that many more were needed before the operation could be launched. He declined to comment on how many, saying that was up to the army.

The current action “appears to me to be attempts to confuse Baitullah, to disturb him psychologically,” Shah said.

Mehsud is believed to have some 5,000 or more fighters who are entrenched in steep mountainous terrain fortified with bunkers and tunnel networks. Thousands more could be expected to join the fight if tribal elders think the military offensive might also challenge their power in the semiautonomous zone, Shah said.

White House Leaks Story of Obama’s Kenyan Birth

    by DefendUSx June 19, 2009 19:30

Unidentified sources inside the White House are quietly revealing, what has just been a rumor up until this time, that Obama may have indeed been born in Kenya. It is believed that these revelations are coming now, as a result of the ongoing effort by some groups to get the original copy of his birth certificate made public. At this moment the complete details are sketchy, but some details are emerging. It now appears that Ann Dunham (Mrs Barack Hussein Obama, Sr) had returned to Kenya with her husband of only 6 month in mid-July of 1961 to meet members of his Kenyan family.

It is thought that while on this visit Ann Dunham learned of Obama seniors earlier marriage to a woman named Kezia in 1954 and that the two were the parents of four children. According to White House sources Ann, distraught and shaken leaves the senior Obama and goes to the nearby capital city of Nairobi and fearing for her life at that time seeks refuse at the American Embassy there. At first the embassy officials were somewhat reluctant to admit the young wife, but upon hearing her story of the death threats leveled at her by the family of Kezia, Barack seniors true wife they decide to give the young obviously pregnant girl asylum in the embassy. According to recently released embassy records the embassy was over-flowing with American nationals at that particular time due to a sharp spike in black nationalist activities directed at whites in the country. Because of over-crowding in the embassy proper, Ann was given shelter in a small shed in the rear of the embassy, a shed formerly reserved for livestock. The livestock had been removed several months before. It was in this former stable, that Ann unexpectedly gives birth to Barack Hussein Obama II, the current President of the United States. The anonymous sources at the White House are quick to point out two things: first, President Obama was born on American soil (U.S. Embassy grounds are considered under international agreements to be part of the United States); second, the ONE was born in a stable (the source was quick to emphasize this fact) for what reason we are not sure! Finally the issue is settled, Obama was born on American soil with his humble beginnings in a stable—the message here well I’ll leave that to you!

Two Japanese travelers were stopped while trying to cross a Italy into Switzerland. Authorities say they find treasury bonds with face value of $134 billion. Treasury bonds are issued electronically nowadays. (Bloomberg News)

  48. rosettasister Says:

Bonds were fake, fears were real

Treasury’s declaration that those briefcase bonds were artificial reassured those who feared that a legitimate nation (e.g. Japan or China) may have tried to unload a Matterhorn of dollars in Switzerland, perhaps to purchase gold and hedge against a coming inflationary tsunami.

Many economists expect a massive wave of price hikes and dollar devaluations stemming from Washington’s 18-month-long bipartisan earthquake of bailouts, spending and money printing.

The two alleged crooks whisking sham bonds through the Alps were thought potentially to be state actors dumping soon-to-be flimsy dollars. Those fears said less about the suspects than about the Bush and Obama administrations’ reckless borrowing and spending.

From the BNO Newsroom, as released by the White House.

NEW YORK CITY (BNO NEWS) — “The Iranian government must understand that the world is watching. We mourn each and every innocent life that is lost. We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people. The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights.

As I said in Cairo, suppressing ideas never succeeds in making them go away. The Iranian people will ultimately judge the actions of their own government. If the Iranian government seeks the respect of the international community, it must respect the dignity of its own people and govern through consent, not coercion.

Martin Luther King once said – “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” I believe that. The international community believes that. And right now, we are bearing witness to the Iranian peoples’ belief in that truth, and we will continue to bear witness.”

    Thanks, Fernley Girl!

But you know, this really is a sad commentary.

We cannot even trust our own “free” press any longer.

Maybe all of this internet stuff really is a Godsend.

We can just rely on each other.

Even in a closed society like Iran.

    So true, so true!

I cannot get that image out of my head.

And I hope I never do.

I want to know all about her.

Her parents, any siblings or children?

    Was she in love?

Who was that man who was so distraught bending over her broken body?

    Who was the older man?

That image of her is like a modern day Pieta.

    She is the Christ image.

Amazing videos and brave protesters. What happened to us? To Americans? We had a fraud elected and we sit home and complain. Most don’t even realize the paraallels yet between the 3 countries. At least these people are willing to fight for their freedom to vote in a fair election. Is this the face of America to come? Scary. Got my copy of the Iron Web today. Am beginning it tonight with a cup of tea and a shot of Southern Comfort by my side. Hope it is a sgood as previewed.

I will work some different angles than you to unearth some real answers on the bonds. With about $1 Trillion of U.S. assets being stolen each month right now. The amount in this case doesn’t surprise me. If they don’t claim counterfeit, they wouldn’t be able to hold them. We need to keep the heat on so the case doesn’t just get swept under the rug. Remember the threat. This might be a negotiating tool. Nothing is what it seems these days. Look at Iran for example. What better way to incite these riots than to make the election an obvious fraud? Who gains…who loses?

Update | 1:45 p.m. CNN has aired a very graphic and disturbing video clip which was uploaded to YouTube and Facebook on Saturday, showing a young woman who has been shot, bleeding profusely. (WARNING: Please be advised before you click on the link below that these are truly horrifying images.)

On both Facebook and YouTube, the video comes with this explanation, written by someone who says that he was present when this video was shot and describes what it shows:

Basij shots to death a young woman in Tehran’s Saturday June 20th protests At 19:05 June 20th Place: Karekar Ave., at the corner crossing Khosravi St. and Salehi st. A young woman who was standing aside with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot at the girl and could not miss her. However, he aimed straight her heart. I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim’s chest, and she died in less than 2 minutes. The protests were going on about 1 kilometers away in the main street and some of the protesting crowd were running from tear gass used among them, towards Salehi St. The film is shot by my friend who was standing beside me. Please let the world know.

Again, we have no way of knowing when or where the video was shot, or if this reader’s account is accurate, due to the intense restrictions on first-hand reporting imposed on the press inside Iran.

Mousavi’s Facebook page contains not only his biographical data but comments from people around the world. One picture shows a body lying on the street in a pool of blood. A comment later talks about what’s happening in Iran and the death of a man’s daughter as he describes it here:

    at 6:18pm June 20

Khameneie! You called yourself, the father of all orphans of Iran-Iraq war,but here you made a father witness the martyrdom of his daughter,in minutes,in his arms. You took away a mans, but Iran’s daughter. He didnt believe it at first, saying:Neda, dont be afraid, dont be afraid..then when blood covered her face,he came to and cried:Neda,stay..Neda,stay… Read More!….The doctor who was there was helpless as the shot was in the chest. My dear Neda, you are now loved by all more than ever,my tears are nonstop for you,but you died for Iran to be free and Im proud of you,may you rest in peace in heaven. And you Khameneie, you will certainly pay for this and definitely go to hell!

The man’s name who tells the story is given publicly on Mousavi’s page, and disclosed after the incident took place.

I had an interesting conversation with a long time friend of mine that has worked as an independent contractor for numerous oil and chemical companies. I had no idea that he has been onto the scams heavily for about 20 years. He was shown accounting books over 10 years ago illustrating how the oil cartel pays off government officials (Senators, Congressmen & etc.). They would purchase and hold oil or other resources for a time, say 120 days or more, then sell it at a substantial loss to associated interests (companies associated with the officials). The cartel takes the tax loss and after a time the officials sell for a substantial profit, thus the pay off is made and everything looks clean.

Her name was Neda, which, so fittingly, means “voice” in Farsi.

    Ode to Neda
    She was a beauty
    She was a lark

    When dying for freedom
    In the homeland

    Neda, the sweet
    Voice of Iran
    Now soars above
    And sings like a swan

    Little songbird
    Fly away
    And smile on us mortals

    Her beauty lives on
For her soul is so grand
