Laz people in 1900s

The Laz (Lazi (ლაზი) or Lazepe (ლაზეფე) in Laz, Lazlar in Turkish, Lazi (ლაზი) or Č’ani (ჭანი) in Georgian) are an ethnic group who live primarily on the Black Sea coastal regions of Turkey and Georgia.

The House of the Virgin Mary (Turkish: Meryemana or Meryem Ana Evi, “Mother Mary’s House”) is a Christian and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos (Turkish: Bülbüldağı, “Mount Nightingale”) in the vicinity of Ephesus, in modern-day Turkey (7 km from Selçuk).

It is believed by many Christians and Muslims that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this stone house by Saint John and lived there until her Assumption into Heaven according to many Catholics, or the Dormition according to the Orthodox.

The peaceful site is sacred to both Christians and Muslims, and is visited by many tourists and pilgrims.

Senators Urge Obama to Block Release of New Detainee Abuse Photos

The plea to intervene to stop the expected May 28 release of the photos came in a letter

Thursday to President Barack Obama from Senators Joseph Lieberman and Lindsey Graham.

“The release of these old photographs of past behavior that has now been clearly prohibited will serve no public good, but will empower al-Qaeda propaganda operations, hurt our country’s image, and endanger our men and women in uniform,” the Senators wrote.

The Pope called on them to talk more about what they have in common and less about their differences.

Later, as representatives of several organizations took turns addressing the participants, one of the Muslim authorities took the floor and began to attack Israel and its treatment of Palestinians.

It was the chief judge of the Muslim religious courts in Palestine. He addressed a similar gathering with the same fierce tone back in 2000 during Pope John Paul IIs jubilee pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

Some Jewish representatives left the room as the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem tried to interrupt him. And since there was no translation, the Pope didnt know what was happening.

Will Obama Tax Your Health Benefits?

President Blasted McCain on This Issue, but Experts Say It Could Help Pay for Reform

As the Finance Committee begins to grapple with finding ways to pay for the health-care overhaul, which is estimated to cost $1.2 trillion over 10 years, the big question is whether Obama’s previous stance on the tax issue will hurt him.

“He did box himself in, yes,” said health-care economist Len Nichols of the centrist New America Foundation. “Let’s put it this way, I know David Cutler, the Obama health-care adviser, very well.

When I saw the first ad, I sent David an e-mail and said, ‘Can you stop these ads?’ And he said: ‘I’m trying.'”

Cutler, is a Harvard economist who worked in the Clinton administration before serving as Obama’s top health-care adviser during the campaign. Nichols said Cutler was aware of the pitfalls.

“He knew he [Obama] would need the money after the election. He knows what the math is.”

The taxing of employer-provided health benefits is a thorny question for any president because it is an issue on which policy and politics collide.

Limiting the tax increase to those who make more than $250,000 per year would not raise nearly as much revenue as taxing anyone with a “gold-plated” health-care plan.

“To the degree that you close the door” on taxing employer-provided health benefits, said Nichols, “you force yourself to dig deeper into” other tax increases or Medicare savings.

“I think it’s going to come down to a calculation about whether it is worth taking the chortles from the Republicans because they have to as opposed to how hard they have to hit the hospitals if they don’t.”

    Option 4 Please!

    The Senate Finance Committee

Senate Committee Lays Out Health-Plan Options

The committee laid out three options for the public plan.

Under one, it would resemble Medicare: The government would administer the plan and set the rates.

A second scenario calls for third-party administrators to handle the public plan.

The third idea is to let states create their own public health-insurance plans.

The committee also raised a fourth option of having no public plan at all, and instead regulating the insurance market in ways that would make coverage more accessible.

It didn’t endorse any of the options.

Senators weigh tax hikes to pay for health care

On the controversial question of taxing health benefits, Baucus is staking out a position that could put him at odds with Obama.

The president adamantly opposed such taxes during the campaign, arguing they would undermine job-based coverage. Obama’s aides now say he’s open to considering suggestions from Congress, even if he criticized Republican presidential rival John McCain for proposing a sweeping version of it.

Baucus said he wants to readjust the tax break, not abolish it.

“We are not going to repeal it,” he said.

But Baucus suggested that the benefit could be limited by taxing health care provided to high-income individuals or by taxing the value of extravagant health insurance plans. Baucus did not specify at what income level the tax would kick in.

Employer-provided health insurance is considered part of workers’ compensation, but unlike wages, it is not taxed. The foregone revenue to the federal government amounts to about $250 billion a year.

Proponents of repealing the benefit say it encourages lavish health insurance plans that only add to waste in the health care system. And they argue that the benefit is unfair, since self-employed people don’t get as big a tax break for health care.

Many experts say that Congress won’t be able to come up with the kind of money needed to provide coverage for all unless limitations on the health care tax break are part of the mix.

The suspected stronghold of firebrand Taliban commander Mullah Fazlullah

Heliborne troops land in Swat’s key Taliban stronghold

TIMERGARA/MINORA: Pakistani commandos dropped into a key Taliban stronghold in the Swat valley on Tuesday, stepping up a punishing offensive against militants that has displaced more than 360,000 people.

Troops opened up a new front in the district’s northern mountains, the suspected stronghold of firebrand Taliban commander Mullah Fazlullah and his top lieutenants behind a nearly two-year uprising that has devastated the area.

Military officials said ‘heliborne troops’ landed at Peochar, around 65 kilometres northwest of the main Swat town of Mingora, in the first such assault during the latest offensive to crush the Taliban in the district.

‘The operation is right now in progress,’ said one of the officials, speaking to AFP from the northwest region.

Attack helicopters also shelled suspected Taliban hideouts in Malam Jabba, once frequented for its pristine winter ski slopes, a military official said.

WASHINGTON: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence along with the CIA conceived and gave birth to the Taliban.

‘I think it was part of your past and our past, and the ISI and the CIA created them [the Taliban] together,’ Zardari told the NBC news channel in an interview on Monday.

Zardari’s remarks come after the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in a congressional hearing explained how the militancy in Pakistan was linked to the US-backed proxy war against the Soviets in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

‘Let’s remember here, the people we are fighting today we funded them twenty years ago and we did it because we were locked in a struggle with the Soviet Union,’ she said on April, 23.

The US along with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) created the Taliban in the 1980’s to counter the Soviets’ influence in the volatile region.

‘And great, let them come from Saudi Arabia and other countries, importing their Wahabi brand of Islam so that we can go beat the Soviet Union,’ Clinton said.

Zardari has vowed that the army will continue offensives against the militants in Swat until security is restored to the volatile valley.

    Pakistan ‘captures Taliban hideout’

The Pakistani military has said it captured a Taliban rear-base, believed to have been used by Mullah Fazlullah, a pro-Taliban leader, and a centre for 4,000 fighters.

The hideout in Gatt Puchar, a mountainous region in the Swat valley, was taken on Tuesday morning, with helicopters being used in the assault, military sources said.

Troops were dropped into the area, which has so far proved to be impenetrable for ground forces.

There has been no confirmation of Fazlullah’s whereabouts following the attack.

Fazlullah is the son-in-law of Sufi Muhammad, a local religious leader who negotiated a deal with the government under which a stricter interpretation of sharia would be implemented in the Swat valley.

… This lawsuit is now our best chance to bring an end to election chicanery and restore integrity to the most fundamental process the People have designed into the Constitution for directly establishing and maintaining their servant government.

This is our chance to finally force government officials to publicly explain, under oath, exactly why they need anything more than a stack of paper ballots, a pen and a wooden box to conduct a fair and honest election.”

Bergs best effort in months period is to go after a patriot! This guy is 3 cans short of a six pack. He lost my attention with his all of sudden update on his website. This is a red flag period. Mr Berg don’t you make this the 2nd biggest hoax on people trying to take a hard working lawyer down!

We’ve detailed how WorldNetDaily uncritically reported allegations made by litigious Obama birth certificate obsessive Orly Taitz against her former webmaster while making little effort to allow that person to respond to the charges — even though the response was on the person’s website for the taking.

We’ve also noted that a complaint has been filed against Taitz with the California bar, accusing her of unethical behavior and making false and misleading claims in court filings.

It’s been three weeks since both the complaint and the webmaster issue first became public — and WND still has yet to tell the full story on them.

    Ron Polarik on Linda Starr

    Polarik said…

So much for all of the “Anomymous” comments.

I am going on record here as saying that Lisa Liberi — the real one, not one of the 14 aliases that Lisa Courville Richardson (the REAL criminal) used — has been smeared by a person who worked for Phil and Lisa.

Her alias was Linda Starr and under her real name she has a rap sheet a block long.

Let me say that I would trust my life in Lisa’s hands, and I don’t trust that many people anyway. I have Lisa’s actual background check and it’s squeaky clean.

Orly chose to believe the lies about Lisa and to spread them, and when I told her that I stand by Lisa, she turned her back on me. Can’t say that I didn’t warn her.

If someone wrongly accuses you of being a criminal and refuses voluntarily to retract that statement, there is no other recourse but to take legal action.

This is not some silly, jealous spat — this is character assassination, about destroying someone’s livelihood, as well as their life.

Think about that before you easily dismiss this matter.

Neither Lisa nor Berg did anything to deserve this.

I will be writing about my feelings regarding this frivilous lawsuit and how it is impacting me, my life, my family and my friends. I will also be writing about my observations about how this ridiculous suit is impacting my co-defendant’s.

  36. rosettasister Says:

Okay, I think I have this thing figured out.

    The (3) Lisa’s are:

    Phil Berg’s Lisa Liberi

Former DrOrly Webmaster Lisa (Calpernia) ?

    Lisa aka Linda Starr

Or do I still have that wrong?

I would love to hear what y’all think!

I’m always interested in what motivates people.

What is motivating DrOrly and Linda Starr?

Why would they want all this trouble?

  37. rosettasister Says:

So there are (2) Lisa Liberi ??? A case of mistaken identity?

Found at Citizen Wells (I believe this was originally posted in comments section at Investigating Obama.)

Yes, there is a Lisa Liberi in California who is originally from New Mexico and has a history of felony fraud.

However, she resides in California, has been here for over a decade, and the only reason she shows up as a resident of New Mexico is because she is still on probation in that state.

This is a matter of public record and is available (free) online.

She was in custody in the State of California at the same time that the Pennsylvania Liberi was working as Berg’s assistant.

  38. rosettasister Says:

Did DrOrly just get this wrong?

I had posted this previously. But now it makes a bit more sense.

First of all, I got a number of questions in re to Lisa Liberi, as through some surrogates Lisa Liberi was spreading rumors that she is an innocent Lisa Liberi, residing in PA and the one, I’ve written about is a different Lisa Liberi, residing in New Mexico.

Well, in the pleadings prepared by her and Berg and in their joint radio appearance on the redio of Momma E aka Evelyn Adams, they admitted that I provided correct and truthful information, as Liberi stated that after I provided her address, she became fearful of her ex-husband and now she needs to go into hiding and change her social security number.

The only information I provided, is one of Lisa Liberi, residing in NM.

If she would’ve been this woman residing in PA, she would’ve had no reason to be concerned about me providing an address in NM.

She does reside in NM, she corresponds with Berg via e-mails and phone and Berg needs to explain to the public and donors, what is his justification for continuing employment of one with such a serious criminal record of forgery and grand theft.
