Between the worlds of men and make-believe I can be found

a. Summer
Late in the summer when the cottonwood dies
The fields are on fire with green bottleflies
And I’m still seeing reflections of me in your eyes
And why did you leave last summer
Now, the seasons are changing from summer to fall
And I’ve still got that picture hung on my wall
And there’s so much forgotten and too much recalled
And why did you leave at all

b. Winter
Standing beside you mid-winter day
Hearts beating close together
Wishing that we’d found some way to make
That moment last forever
Standing silent–laughing–breathing steam
Gazing down into a freezing stream…
I saw the face of a child
I saw the face of a child

Scarecrow’s Dream – Dan Fogelberg

    Hi Rose,

I am one of your dedicated “lurkers” who enjoy reading your blog daily–enjoy the music, the discourse, and the links to other sources of information.

However, I take issue to Troy’s posting above regarding 9/11. The Pentagon WAS hit by a plane September 11. I, and at least a dozen others, witnessed the attack in abject horror from the 12th floor of our office building in nearby Arlington. We had a full panoramic view on a beautiful day with clear blue skies. I still have nightmares.

Thanks for posting, Debby. I, for one, believe you.

  2. Troy Says:

So Debby, you just happened to be looking out the window at the very instant that a commercial airliner traveling at approximately 500 MPH, only a few feet above the ground, struck the Pentagon?

Wow, I wonder what the odds of that are….I’m sure it was a horrific site to behold…..I wonder where the two massive engines ended up.

  3. rosettasister Says:

Troy, I’m going to have to ask you to back off.

  4. j.b. Says:

Troy, why the sarcasm toward Debby? Is it really necessary?

  5. j.b. Says:

    Please disregard my ?
Rose’s response was not there when I began to write my post. Thanks.

  6. Troy Says:

    Pentagon security camera footage

Other security cameras, such as the one from the Double Tree Hotel, captured the impact also and in every single case the is no plane.

There were no impact marks left on the face of the building from the massive engines slamming into it….In fact there was no plane debri to be found anywhere, just like in Shanksville.

  7. Katie Says:

Everyone, please take a deep breath before this gets uncomfortable. It feeds into the chaos they’re creating in America.

Let’s not let them succeed here at Rose’s place.

  8. Troy Says:

    Jb, I wasn’t being sarcastic….When I’m being sarcastic I finish with “(sarc)”

  9. j.b. Says:

Okay. But I asked you to disregard my question. Rose has asked that this not be discussed here and I will respect that.

I think our next rally/protest should be on the same day in May that illegal aliens are planning a protest. Better yet, we should do it the day before.

We’ll call ours the American Citizens Unite! rally.

Imagine the signs we could make for THAT! Imagine the average Joe’s words from the podium on what it means to them to be an American Citizen. I’d wager some of the best speeches would come from people who chose to EARN it.

And we’d have the added benefit of shutting up lunatics like Gar-rolff-alo. They can’t come up with a good thing to say about America.

After speaking at length with some recently disassociated affiliates of Orly’s and listening to Orly on the Collective Consciousness Call, I am confident that there a 2 sides to this story and they are probably both right and wrong. Orly is quite high strung and a bit paranoid. She is operating on a short fuse. She accused a Ron Paul supporter of being an Obot plant on the call just because he suggested her efforts may not lead to any substantive timely result. He, being a libertarian, was trying to be realistic about the up hill battle Orly is fighting and she turned on him in a flash. On the other hand, if Ostella was in fact trying to help and Orly pissed her off, there is no justification for the public sabotage that has occurred. You also have to respect Orly’s dossier facts. It certainly gives validity to her stated suspicions. Just be aware of Orly’s ability to turn on someone a bit quick. If she wasn’t so high strung, I doubt she could have accomplished what she has and you gotto know she’s getting attacked from many angles.

It’s just hard for me to accept that I existed in such a box for 95% of my 58 years. Now my wife and kids keep coaching me to tone down my words when I am educating people. Being loaded for bear tends to make people feel like they are getting hit with a fire hose. They either go into overload or wonder what kind of nut case they WERE listening to before shutting down. This isn’t always the case, but when it happens, I wonder why I am wasting my time. My son asked me today why I bothered casting pearls to swine. The guy that I had been talking to was a cop and wanted to know about Oath Keepers. It’s just getting harder to judge how much people can or will hear and we have such a short amount of time to educate enough of them. I pray our conference on Sunday will have a big ripple effect.

I keep reading all of the negative spin that the liberals are putting on the tea parties. I hope it upsets so many americans that the rallies planned for July 4 are double or triple what they were for tax day. I’ve talked to several people who, like me, had never participated in a protest or rally and now, seeing how peaceful and uplifting these events were, wish they had attended.

  34. zenstorm Says:

What happens when you speak about something very important and when you finish you realize that nobody in the room heard you or are ven looking in your dirrection. Either you repeat yourself a little louder or you walk away feeling botherede.
I can imagine that those who jumped hoops to make it possible to be present at one of the tea parties is feeling a little neglected right now, and you can bet there is a big tea brewing and will be spewing for another, louder and bigger protest.
There are many rebel raiser hoping that we dont just walk away from the liberals attempts to minimize our efforts…get ready, its coming….

Preventing inclusion of reconciliation instructions in the spending plan seems the only way to lessen the debt burden until the 2010 elections.

Reconciliation seen as main hurdle for conference talks

By Humberto Sanchez CongressDaily April 17, 2009

When Democratic leaders of the Budget committees return next week to shepherd the budget resolution to final passage, budget watchers expect the toughest issue to work out will be whether to include reconciliation instructions in the spending plan to get around a Senate filibuster.

Democrats will carefully count votes to make sure that they can pass the resolution, especially in the Senate.

During debate, Democrats sometimes joined with Republicans in voting in favor of GOP-sponsored amendments, including one proposal, which passed 67-31, that would prohibit the use of reconciliation for a cap-and-trade bill.

On another amendment, 11 Democrats voted with all Republicans to raise the cap on estate taxes.

More broadly, Democrats want very much to avoid a close vote.

Another issue to iron out is the level in nondefense discretionary spending.

The House bill would provide for $532.6 billion, whereas the Senate bill calls for $525 billion.

One way that conferees could resolve the matter would be to split the difference.

Both resolutions include deficit-neutral reserve funds for healthcare reform, energy and education — three pillars of President Obama’s agenda — leaving it up to the committees of jurisdiction to draft legislation on matters such as a cap-and-trade program to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

(“deficit-neutral reserve funds”??? What does “deficit-neutral” mean?)

The Student Loan Industry Pushes Back

Private Lenders Would Die Under Plan to Give Government Bigger Role, Some Say

    By Amit R. Paley
    Washington Post Staff Writer

With the Obama administration proposing to overhaul the programs a majority of American students use to finance their college education, the student loan industry is fighting back.

The administration is calling for sweeping changes to the decades-old approach of providing federal subsides to private loan companies, arguing that the revamp will save $94 billion that can be redirected to needy borrowers and help even more people go to college.

But the industry and its congressional allies are countering that it would add billions to the national debt, put thousands of industry employees out of work and provide shoddy service for borrowers.

Does the truth even matter anymore, or only the narrative?

Whatcha wanna bet that neither Specter nor his two Maine cohorts knew a thing about just how bad the deficit number was for FY 2009 before they cast their votes?

    The last projection was FY 2009 – 13.1% and FY 2010 – 9.6%.

And whatcha wanna bet those numbers end up looking even worse than that?

If these three turncoats had stood their ground, we would have ended up with a less expensive, more effective stimulus.

We’d still be in deep doodoo, but we’d only need shit-kicking boots instead of hip-high boots to wade through it.

Specter was repeatedly asked about the stimulus bill and its effect on the economy, and everyone around him seemed aware that the topic probably would define his future.

“You can minimize that and say it’s just another vote, but this bill would not have passed if not for Arlen Specter,” said Rep. Robert A. Brady (D-Pa.), who appeared with Specter in Darby and praised the longtime senator for his bipartisanship.

“This stimulus package that we’re going around and every congressman is passing out checks, all over the country, is because of a man named Arlen Specter.”

Israel stands ready to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites

    Sheera Frenkel in Jerusalem

Ephraim Kam, the deputy director of the Institute for National Security Studies, said it was unlikely that the Americans would approve an attack.

“The American defence establishment is unsure that the operation will be successful. And the results of the operation would only delay Iran’s programme by two to four years,” he said.

A visit by President Obama to Israel in June is expected to coincide with the national elections in Iran — timing that would allow the US Administration to re-evaluate diplomatic resolutions with Iran before hearing the Israeli position.

“Many of the leaks or statements made by Israeli leaders and military commanders are meant for deterrence. The message is that if [the international community] is unable to solve the problem they need to take into account that we will solve it our way,” Mr Kam said.

  54. rosettasister Says:

I wonder if there’s any truth to the following:

Diplomatic Sources: China’s Mideast Envoy Likely to Help Iran Draw Attention to Israeli Nuclear Arsenal

Diplomatic sources say China’s special Mideast envoy, Wu Sike, is likely to work behind the scenes to help Iran to focus world attention on Israel’s presumed arsenal of nuclear weapons–a deterrent that is critical to Israel’s survival in a sea of implacable, increasingly powerful enemies.

Wu, a former Chinese ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Egypt, who replaced Sun Bigan as China’s top diplomat for the Middle East, is said to agree with his predecessor that criticism of Israeli nuclear weapons can serve as a useful propaganda diversion for Iran and strengthen its diplomatic position ahead of negotiating with world powers over Iran’s development of nuclear power–which China officially supports as long as it is for peaceful purposes.

The anti-Israel propaganda push can benefit from U.S. President Barack Obama’s call for a nuclear-free world and Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s call for turning the Middle East into “a zone free of weapons of mass destruction.”

  55. rosettasister Says:

Iran Says Its Military Might Helps Regional Security

President Mahmud Ahmadinejad has said a strong Iranian military would help preserve stability in the Middle East, as Iran marked its armed forces’ day with a parade that appeared more muted than in the past.

Ahmadinejad gave a relatively low-key speech and there was little sign of the anti-Western banners and slogans normally seen at the annual event.

Israel, widely believed to have the Middle East’s only atomic arsenal, has described Iran’s nuclear program as a threat to its existence. Although it says it wants a diplomatic solution, Washington has also not ruled out military action.

Military analysts say the United States could unleash vastly superior firepower against Iran, but that Tehran could hit back against Washington’s forces in Iraq and by disrupting oil supplies vital to the world economy.

Obama’s Campaign paid $688,000 THIS YEAR to attorney who threatened sanctions in eligibility lawsuit

In a report filed Wednesday, April 15, Obama for America, the group that collected over $850 million in campaign contributions for Obama, spent nearly $9.5 million in the first three months of this year, including included $688,000 in legal fees to the firm of Robert J Bauer.

Bauer is the same attorney who send a letter to attorney John Hemenway threatening him with sanctions, including costs, expenses, and attorney’s fees, if he did not withdraw his appeal on Hollister v. Legally, Bauer doesn’t have a leg to stand on. He cannot threaten sanctions against Hememway and cannot collect attorney’s fees and legal costs since Bauer did not request a Motion to Dismiss on the basis that the lawsuit was frivolous, nor did he ask for attorney’s fees and costs.

The case was tossed by Judge Robertson so no ruling was ever made on Bauer’s Motion. But Hememway should press for Bauer’s disbarment based on Bauer’s extortion threat or, at a minimum have him recused from any further involvement.

I agree that Hememway should have kept quiet and file the appeal.

    That is not Garafolo’s number. I was a bit concerned when I heard the voicemail, so I began my message with;
“If this is not JG’s #, I apologize…… I then left a pointed, non-curse-word-laced (which was NOT easy, btw) message. Well, that sweet sounding young lady just called me back! She actually said she was, “Sorry that JG offended me” and would I please not call her again.

Remember when I called Michelle and left a message that Shanika (or was it Shaniqua) called? *Sigh* I miss November 2nd and before.

    Yeah, me neither.

    By Major Garrett

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago — President Obama endured a 50-minute diatribe from socialist Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega that lashed out at a century of what he called terroristic U.S. aggression in Central America and included a rambling denunciation of the U.S.-imposed isolation of Cuba’s Communist government.

Obama sat mostly unmoved during the speech but at times jotted notes. The speech was part of the opening ceremonies at the fifth Summit of the Americas here.

Later, at a photo opportunity with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Obama held his tongue when asked what he thought about Ortega’s speech.

“It was 50 minutes long. That’s what I thought.”

Hey, Barry! When you gonna put yer BIG BOY PANTS on ?Puh-lease………lmao.

Here’s the entire article. Absolutely, positively, shameful behavior by our neuteured “leader”.

It appears that Barry is quickly becoming the World “Leaders” Elf.

I sure HOPE (some of ) the folks who voted for Barry are beginning to lose sleep, have anxiety and a constant feeling of OMG and WTF? as I (and millions of others) do.

    They deserve it.

Don’t know if this was posted earlier — sorry if it was. The lady who organized the tea party I attended sent an email requesting that we encourage our elected officials to get behind this HR requiring that Congress include in laws they enact, a specific reference to where in the Constitution they have the authority for the specific law. Sounds good to me! If you agree, please pass it on to others. Thanks

Through a bill deceivingly labeled the Employee Free Choice Act, some lawmakers want to abolish these private ballot elections and allow unions to organize just by collecting signatures on union cards, giving them the ability to pressure and intimidate workers in public.

    A “massive” march on Washington

Tea party protest backers ask for more

Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity, a pro-tax cut advocacy group that was one of the chief promoters of the rallies, said his group had volunteers “getting folks signed up for future battles.”

“We cannot view these taxpayer tea parties as an end. Instead, we must use them as a beginning,” Mr. Phillips said in an e-mail to his supporters in which he announced plans for a “massive” march on Washington.

I met Steve Shippy sitting at the bar in Olive Garden yesterday evening. He was eating dinner, I was waiting for take-out, and we both were drinking wine (just one).

The bartender asked us if we were together. I said no, we’re both just very friendly!

Anyway we got to talking and he told me he was in the Valley of the Sun visiting his daughter and eventually I figured out he was a sports coach.

Turns out he trains motocross riders. Then we really had something to talk about!

Many moons ago I raced powderpuffs. I wasn’t very good, but it was fun and I liked going fast!

Unfortunately, I have the kidneys to show for it.

Once I was told by a Muslim healer from Indonesia (long story), “Left kidney no good.”

    He wasn’t lying!

This is Steve speaking at beginning of this clip (such a friendly fellow).

BTW, I have a tendency to pump people for info when I get the chance, and Steve turned me on to a place near San Clemente right on the water with a kitchen for only $79 a night.

Not bad! Be happy to share.

Interesting…the date on this is a year ago today. Is the date wrong on the article, or is someone re-issuing the story to get attention. I don’t remember hearing about this – but then again, I was in an uniformed, blissfully ignorant uptopia a year ago.

Wonder if the murder was ever solved?
