Race for ‘God particle’ heats up By James Morgan

Fermilab’s Dmitri Denisov

Europe’s particle physics lab, Cern, is losing ground rapidly in the race to discover the elusive Higgs boson, or “God particle”, its US rival claims.

Director Pier Oddone presented the Tevatron’s latest data at the AAAS meeting.

“We now have a very, very good chance that we will see hints of the Higgs before the LHC will,” said his Fermilab colleague, Dr Dmitri Denisov.

“The probability of our discovering the Higgs is very good – 90% if it is in the high mass range.

“And the chances are even higher – 96% – if its mass is around 170GeV (giga-electron volts).

“In that case we would be talking about seeing hints of the Higgs by this summer.”

Fired up

Sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with Dr Denisov was his counterpart Professor Lyn Evans, LHC (Large Hadron Collider) project leader.

“The race is on,” he told BBC News.

“The Tevatron is working better than I ever imagined it could. They are accumulating data like mad.

“The setback with the LHC has given them an extra time window. And they certainly will make the most of it.

“If they do find the Higgs, good luck to them. But I think it’s unlikely they will find it before the LHC comes online. They may well be in a position to get a hint of the Higgs but I don’t think they’ll be in a position to discover it.

“And of course, if it’s not in the mass range they think it is, they have no chance of discovering it at all. Pier Oddone put the odds at 50-50 but I think it’s less than that.

“In one year, we will be competitive. After that, we will swamp them.”

It’s one of the great unanswered questions of science. What gives matter its mass? By generating conditions present moments after the big bang, scientists hope to locate the elusive ‘God Particle’.

The LHC has been out of action since September 2008 when an accident damaged some of the magnets that make up its giant colliding ring.

    Dick Morris Says:

NEWS broke last week that Rahm Emanuel, now White House chief of staff, lived rent- free for years in the home of Rep. Rosa De Lauro (D-Conn.) – and failed to disclose the gift, as congressional ethics rules mandate. But this is only the tip of Emanuel’s previously undislosed ethics problems.

One issue is the work Emanuel tossed the way of De Lauro’s husband. But the bigger one goes back to Emanuel’s days on the board of now-bankrupt mortgage giant Freddie Mac.

Emanuel is a multimillionaire, but lived for the last five years for free in the tony Capitol Hill townhouse owned by De Lauro and her husband, Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg.

During that time, he also served as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee – which gave Greenberg huge polling contracts. It paid Greenberg’s firm $239,996 in 2006 and $317,775 in 2008. (Emanuel’s own campaign committee has also paid Greenberg more than $50,000 since 2004.)

To be fair, Greenberg had polling contracts with the DCCC before – but each new election cycle brings its own set of consultants. And Emanuel was certainly generous with his roommate.

Emanuel never declared the substantial gift of free rent on any of his financial-disclosure forms. He and De Lauro claim that it was just allowable “hospitality” between colleagues. Hospitality – for five years?

Some experts suggest that it was also taxable income: Over five years, the free rent could easily add up to more than $100,000.

Nor is this all that seems to have been missed in the Obama team’s vetting process. Consider: Emanuel served on the Freddie Mac board of directors during the time that the government-backed lender lied about its earnings, a leading contributor to the current economic meltdown.

The Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight Agency later singled out the Freddie Mac board as contributing to the fraud in 2000 and 2001 for “failing in its duty to follow up on matters brought to its attention.” In other words, board members ignored the red flags waving in their faces.

CERN is just another example of man screwing around with something that they have no business messing with….These idiots have absolutely no idea of what is going to happen with their grand expirement….They only know that “something” is going to happen….Brilliant!!!….It’s just another Pandora’s Box, that once it’s opened they will never be able to close it again….It’s sort of like when Oppenheimer and his buddies started screwing around with atoms and splitting and fusing them and all that stuff…..Hmmm, I think we got atomic and thermonuclear bombs after that…..You know what they say, “Once the shit’s out of the horse, you can’t put it back in….Jackasses will wind up killing us all.

This just proves that the overall goal of science is to disprove God.

I believe that is the overall goal of some scientists, but certainly not all.

Many scientists find themselves in the middle, they are Creationists but do not deny evolution.

I seem to remember there actually being a term used to describe those who harbor that belief system.

When I taught middle school science in Catholic schools, I taught both Creation and evolution.

Of course, I couldn’t even mention God in public schools, which was very hard for me.

The way I see it, I put nothing beyond God, i.e., why can’t evolution be a part of God’s plan?

And why can’t God’s particle be just that, GOD’S particle?

I don’t believe we humans can even begin to comprehend just how immeasurable God is.

On our Valentine’s Day thread, I mentioned how Robert Preston is my favorite actor ever.

Shortly after he died, I dreamt of him and you know what he told me?

He said, and I’ll never forget it as it was such an euphoric dream,

“Heaven is that place never ever dreamt of.”

I woke with tears in my eyes as I felt as though I’d been given a gift, just an inkling of what heaven must be like.

I told you I had strange dreams!

There is significant scientific evidence that the earth and universe are not very old. The 6 days of creation presented in the Bible are consistent with observable scientific data and have never been disproven from a scientific perspective. If you want to learn more about this, I highly recommend Answers In Genesis and the Creation Research Institute and reliable scientific sources. New research from the RAID group is also something to check out. Although it is not a young earth book, Lee Strobel’s “A Case for a Creator” is excellent as well. Answers In Genesis or AIG has opened a Creation Museum in Ohio. If anyone is interested I can provide a list of scientifically based books that are excellent. Scientific data and discoveries in the last 40 years have substantially debunked Macro-evolution. Speciation is scientifically dead. The fossil record illustrates stasis and extinction. Any other conclusion is based on false assumptions and blind faith. Evolution (macro) is now more a religious belief than any theology. The same people that believe that S/Ob’s factcheck COLB makes him a NBC are the ones that still believe the propaganda of macro-evolution. It helps keep God out of their lives so they can worship That One.

Is anyone familiar with polonium 218? It has a half life of like 3 minutes. The Precambrian rock is void of meteorite material which means the earth was not a molten orb that slowly harden over a long period of time. That same Precambrian rock is full of polonium 218 halos which demonstrates that it was formed in less than 3 minutes. They call these halos the fingerprints of God.

Has anyone checked out the delta formed at the end of the Mississippi river where it enters the Gulf? Got any idea how much material is deposited there? Just the right amount to have been deposited since Noah’s flood, about 5,000 years worth.

Anybody know what the oldest living plant is? It’s the Foxtail pine tree which you can find in the Rockies. Yep, they are just under 5,000 years old.

Don’t count out the literal translation of Biblical history.

Got any idea of what the sun would have been like 100,000 years ago or what its relationship to the Earth would have been if the Earth was here 100,000 years ago?

Got any idea of where the moon would have been in relationship to the Earth 12,000 years ago?

Anybody know about the Fibonacci spiral and its relationship to the Universe and our DNA?

Anybody understand the hazards of radiometric dating? Especially carbon dating? Or how the old Earth pseudo-scientists select which results they arbitrarily choose to support their beliefs?

Anybody know what the Earth was like before Noah’s flood? Which, btw, is contained in historical accounts of every civilization on Earth.

Is anyone aware that every claim of finding a missing link like Piltdown or Neanderthal have all been proven to be frauds?

Like Troy has said about our present state of affairs…you need to really do your homework. We’ve all been lied to about all of this stuff. The circular reasoning is nauseating. When you look at the OBSERVABLE scientific data, none of it conflicts with Scripture. If scientist want to know how to accurately interpret data, their best bet is to consider it in the light of Scripture. They would waste a lot less time and not have to apologize later when more data is obtained.

Any idea how the encyclopedic level of information contained in a single living cell came into being? Has anyone observed a mutation that resulted in a gain of NEW genetic information? If NO new genetic information can be created or gained from a mutation, then how can mutation result in macro-evolution? Let’s be clear that no logical person disputes micro-evolution (genetic changes or variations within species.).

The road ahead will be a roller coaster with many ups and downs.
We will be tested in many ways, our faith in in many forms will be challenged. We will come to a major cross road as a country; a decision of socialism or constitutionalism must be decided.
I believe in my heart that spirit of country will win but not without its wounds.

The upside is I believe we will find self and become whole again as a nation as our journey moves forward. This is a journey that never ends. The traveling of the roads more important than the completion; for the completion means we know all the answers and life has come full circle.
We will once again look at religion and morals as something that is ingrained in the souls.

This is a fight for morals, to do the right thing for the good of the many and sacrifice the selfishness of the few.
The morals that give the Freedom to believe in a supreme being, the right to a moment of silence and the pledge to the flag.

To acknowledge that being politically correct isn’t about respect but about being controlled. Your morals should guide you that hate is wrong that expressing such is just lack of knowledge and understanding.

Making the world a better place and seeing the beauty should be more of a high than chemicals that just give a false illusion.

Parents need to pause and think that their kids need them more than the latest electronic gadget. Teach them, Love them and show them how it is to be a good human being.

Traveling forward on this journey means to step back wards and gain what was so carelessly lost. The sense of family, the sense of morals and the sense of respecting; not only yourself but others.

Hints: The atmospheric range of the sun has been shrinking. The moon has consistently been moving away from the Earth. Prior to Noah’s flood, the magnetic field of the Earth is believed to have been much stronger than the declining field today and there is evidence that it quickly reversed polarity more than once during the flood or at least at some time in the not too distant past.

Everyone’s fussing over whether the Alleged Usurper’s stimulus plan will help or hurt the economy. Are they missing the point? Massive taxpayer resources are being pumped into Obama’s powerbase. His cohorts grow stronger, while the larger economic impact of the plan makes everyone else weaker. Not much of a recovery plan, but a great strategy for securing power.

Then there are all those Hamas loving Palestinians he’s using taxpayer money to bring to the U.S. After 9/11 the Palestinians danced in their streets. This time they won’t have far to go to dance on our graves.

From the God Particle to Obama — quite a jump.

My take on “a theory of everything” is this: I exist because I can exist; all else is speculation. Speculation is another name for religion. Religion gives people a chance to say “I’m sorry, can I start over?”

This makes religion necessary for most people. Unfortunately some people think their religion is the only way to properly say “I’m sorry”.

Five years ago we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary: much has transpired, both historically and personally over those years. Never has so many things come together at one time to produce the state our world is in at present. Hopefully, when all of the hatred has been expended things will improve…
