EXCERPT

And later today, MoveOn, Americans United for Change, AFSCME and SEIU will be announcing a new ad campaign targeting moderate Republican senators who might support the stimulus — Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Charles Grassley of Iowa.

The ad, which will run in the Washington market and in those states, consists of clips of the president talking about the stimulus, followed by the male voiceover, “Tell Congress to support the Obama plan for jobs, not the failed policies of the past.”

Letters on the screen say: “Tell Congress to support the Obama Plan.” The president met privately with House Republicans at the Capitol, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had a private White House dinner for House GOP moderates, and the President had members of both parties and both chambers over for cocktails last night.

But they did not peel off a single Republican.

EXCERPT

I’m not even gonna mention the goofy stimulus package in Congress, because it’s not gonna stimulate much of anything except a zillion Democratic political-interest groups. This package is completely porked up with massive social spending and other political targets — none of which will create any jobs or growth. It’s just a massive resource transfer.

And the infrastructure bailout turns out to be vastly smaller than originally advertised. In the 1950s, Ike launched a $550 billion highway-building plan. Today’s stimulus package has $30 billion in highway-related projects, and perhaps another $40 billion way down the road for broadband and electric-grid-type developments.

The public expected an infrastructure build-out that actually made some sense. That’s not what they’re getting. And if Republicans keep hammering away at this they are going to make important political points and slow down the Obama train.

In the meantime, the Fed is doing its job. So is the big energy tax cut. As free-market indicators suggest, the economy may well be healing faster than Washington can cobble together the most unmanageable fiscal activity anyone has ever seen.

“Senate GOP unlikely to vote for President Obama’s stimulus bill”

http://www.examiner.com/x-1421-First-100-Days-Examiner~y2009m1d29-Senate-GOP-unlikely-to-vote-for-President-Obamas-stimulus-bill

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell blasted President Barack Obama’s Recovery and Reinvestment plan on Capitol Hill this morning.  The highest ranking Senate Republican says Obama needs to go back to his original plan to offer “40-percent tax relief, no wasteful spending and a bipartisan approach” to get McConnell’s support.

McConnell says the economy is the top issue on the mind of all Americans.  Just this week several company’s such as Starbucks and GM announced more job cuts and the unemployment rate reached an all time high of more than four million. Republican leaders say Obama’s Recovery and Reinvestment plan will not strengthen the economy or create jobs in it’s current form.

In this first segment he tells us a little about who he is and what his ministry has done in the community, as well as what’s wrong with the community he serves.

This is a fascinating interview you don’t want to miss. He’s not just about Obama. We talk about abortion and crime and many other topics in this segment.

    http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=30473

Here is the full text of the memo leaked to HUMAN EVENTS this morning.

    Memo

    To: Interested Parties
    From: Brendan Daly
    Re: The Republican Problem
    Date: January 29, 2009

The House Republican Leadership put its Members in another politically untenable position yesterday: trying to reclaim the mantle of lower taxes and small government — at the exact time when economists of every ideological stripe agree that government investments are the only way to get our economy moving again and make us competitive for the long term.

So yesterday, while we are facing the greatest economic crisis in decades, Republican House Members ended up voting unanimously against:

    * Jobs in their own communities

    * Tax cuts for 95 percent of American workers

    * Long overdue investments that will transform and grow their economies to compete globally

    * Critical services in their own communities, such as police officers, teachers, and health care

Instead, their substitute did not create as many jobs and it increased the number of people subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax.

The hypocrisy of the Republicans complaining about the process does not obscure the record of recent Republican leadership:

    * 2.6 million American jobs were lost in 2008 alone.

    * The national debt has almost doubled in the last eight years; the debt borrowed from foreign countries has tripled.

    * The Clinton Administration left a record budget surplus. President Bush turned it into the worst deficit in American history.

    * We face an economic recession unrivaled since the Great Depression, as a result of years of failure to invest in our own global competitiveness, failures to bring common sense to Wall Street and our housing market, and tax policies that favored massive corporations and most affluent individuals.

This is not the first time the Republicans in the House have unanimously voted against a needed economic package. The last time, in 1993, when Democrats voted for tough action to clean up after Republican economic mess, not a single Republican voted for the legislation that produced record surpluses and a balanced budget.

Once again this week, as another Democratic President and Democratic Congress worked to address historic deficits and recession brought on by Republican mismanagement of the economy, not a single Republican voted for the legislation. There’s a pattern here of Republican economic mismanagement and Democrats stepping up to do what’s needed for the good of the country while Republicans acted in a partisan and irresponsible manner.

    Katie,
The Philly venue issues may be fabricated or they may be legit. I haven’t been given all the details. I was told second hand that there were requirements that WTPC was not willing to sign on to. I assumed that the variable time frame may have been a problem. It could be something else entirely. Let me give you an example of my thinking. If WTPC wanted to have a possible 30 day time frame but was only willing to commit to 2 weeks of payment, then the venue would want the right to book the remaining time or be paid for it to hold it. I also heard something about other events that may have conflicted. All is speculation at this point. They (the government) may have wanted to make it difficult. I will let you know as I gain real information.

I also know that some of our folks in Colorado are working on a venue here.

Could it maybe be that these “news” agencies don’t care if their news men are being co-opted by the White House because it’s THIS White House? One run by a Democrat. And a White House run by The One, at that?

Well, I for one, am calling for ABC and CNN to fire Carville, Begala and Stephanopoulos as well as for everyone to stop considering Greenberg’s work worthy of attention. Short of firing the three TV newsers, the networks should tell their employees to cease and desist with these secret planning sessions with the White House and issue apologies to the viewers for not informing them of this secret pipeline to power.

How can we believe that Carville, Begala and especially Stephanopoulos will be informing us of what is really going on since we are now aware that they have been daily joining a powerful member of the Democratic Party in ideological strategizing? How can we believe that we are getting anything other than the Party line directly from Barack Obama instead of unbiased news when these three men speak to us from our TVs?

Fire Carville, Begal and Stephanopoulos now. They have sold out to Obama and cannot be trusted to report the news to the viewing public.

Notablecalls: FYI – While I agree with Goldman in part, I continue to stand by my thesis that the “Bad Bank” has put a stop to the slide. That’s good enough for the time being.

There is not going to be any V-shaped recovery for the financials (or the whole global economy for that matter) but things are getting better. Blood will flow on the main street in 2009 but that’s something we all have to deal with psychologically.

“Geithner Says Plan for Banks Is in the Works”

As lawmakers pressed the Obama administration for details of how it would assist financial firms that have been rapidly deteriorating, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said Wednesday the administration is working on a comprehensive plan to “repair the financial system.”

Mr. Geithner declined to provide any specific details or to address rising calls for the creation of a government institution to buy or guarantee the declining assets at several of the nation’s largest banks. He discouraged speculation that the plan would include the nationalization of some banks.

“We have a financial system that is run by private shareholders, managed by private institutions, and we’d like to do our best to preserve that system,” he said.

But bank stocks surged on hopes the government was moving toward creating a “bad bank” to purge toxic assets from balance sheets that are rapidly deteriorating as the economy worsens. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve cautioned that the economy was still spiraling downward on many fronts.

According to several Wall Street officials, senior administration members spent the weekend and the last few days reaching out to top bankers for their views on how a bad bank should be structured. Lawrence H. Summers, head of the White House’s National Economic Council; Sheila C. Bair, the Federal Insurance Deposit Corporation chairwoman; and Mr. Geithner have been involved in the talks, the Wall Street officials said.

    This Is Very Disturbing!

Moderator: To me this is hard news but post where appropiate.

My son, who is in 1st grade, came home yesterday saying that he didn’t want to go back to school anymore. So I asked him why? He said that during the Pledge of Allegiance the teacher put up a large image of Obama next to the flag. I asked him if he was sure of this and I suggested to him that maybe the teacher just put up an 8×10 photo of the president. He said, “No, it is a large picture of Obama and when we are done Ms. **** turns off the image.” I also asked if they did this for Bush last year? He again said, “No.” This was my sons first day back to school since before Christmas, he was on a 5 week track break.

My wife volunteers a couple of days each week with helping out with my sons teacher doing various duties. She said that she would come in early this morning to see what was going on. She just got back and reported that this was true and then some. She said she waited out in the pod area and could see inside 3 of the 5 class rooms in this section of school. She said that when the kids stand each teacher flips on the classroom overhead and a full body image of Obama, with six U.S. flags behind him, comes up about 4 feet away from the flag that hangs on the wall. She said that the image has Obama staring straight at you with no facial expressions, just a serious look. I asked my wife if Obama had his hand over his heart? She said that she was so taken aback by this that she didn’t see it. What is worse is she said that all of the kids in each class faced Obama instead of the flag that hangs in the corner.

What the heck is going on?

Guys and gals, I need some advise on how to approach this. I can be somewhat hot headed so I need to plan accordingly with what to say to the principal when we go in to inquire about this. I am sure I will be brushed off so what is my next step? Obviously it will be the school district but then who? ACLU, Veteran groups, Christian groups? Who would be interested in this vile activity?

This is happening in the Clark County School District here in Las Vegas, Henderson area

  25. hockeyfan530 Says:

Barry said this in regards to why they should pledge allegiance to him vs the constitution:

“The President feels that the military has been too indoctrinated by the old harbingers of hate: nationalism, racism, and classism. By removing an oath to the American society, the soldiers are less likely to commit atrocities like those at Abu Ghraib.”

The article i read certainly doesn’t sound like satire.

Did anyone else see this thread on Plaines Radio Forum?

January 8, 2009, the President of the US Senate, Dick Cheney and the US Congress failed to abide by the US Code of Federal Regulations by not calling for objections. You will see this failure on this video below, at the 20 minute point. Stay watching the video and you will see that as Dick Cheney is reading, some commotion happens on the floor of Congress, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of The House, jumps up and starts clapping hysterically and then you will hear rambunctious applause by Congress, for no apparent reason. As the camera pans the Congress members you will see that some are not clapping and there is one man with his arm up in the air. Click here to see the video or go to this URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…re=related

It may appear that an objection was raised and that whoever was attempting to make that objection was shouted down by the mob
