“No urgency for quick pullout of Iraq troops”

Obama with General David Petraeus

The welcome tone of pragmatism that President Obama conveyed during his transition and in his inaugural address seemed to carry over, during his first day in office, to one of the issues for which he will most need it: Iraq. Fulfilling an oft-stated campaign promise, the new president met with his defense secretary and senior military commanders and, according to a statement he issued, asked for “additional planning necessary to execute a responsible military drawdown from Iraq.”

Accounts of the meeting suggested that Obama spent much of the time listening to reports from those who know Iraq best — Gens. David Petraeus and Ray Odierno and Ambassador Ryan Crocker. In addition, the president’s statement did not cite the 16-month withdrawal timetable that became one of the signal slogans of his campaign — though his spokesman mentioned it. We hope that’s evidence that Obama will not repeat one of President Bush’s greatest mistakes — allowing ideological and political considerations to trump good military judgment.

There is broad agreement in Washington and Baghdad that U.S. troops should gradually be withdrawn, consistent with the goal of preserving Iraq’s fragile and relative peace. Late last year, the outgoing administration concluded a formal agreement with the Iraqi government, laying out a plan for redeploying and withdrawing U.S. troops over the next three years. Both Iraqi leaders and U.S. commanders have made clear that they do not believe a pullout of all combat forces in 16 months is compatible with that strategy, and some U.S. officers have questioned whether, in purely logistical terms, it could be safely accomplished.

Odierno, who commands U.S. forces in Iraq, reportedly favors only a modest drawdown of troops this year, when Iraq will be staging two crucial elections and trying to resolve still-volatile questions of how to divide territory and power among regions and sectarian groups. The prospect of American forces leaving at the rate of a brigade a month, as required by a 16-month timetable, is regarded by leading Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish politicians as a potential catastrophe — though their public statements sometimes suggest otherwise.

Wednesday’s briefing should have underlined those facts for Obama, if he did not know them already. The president can certainly be expected to press for the quickest U.S. withdrawal that logistics and conditions in Iraq will allow. But Iraq’s continuing improvement and the low and declining rate of U.S. casualties — four soldiers have been killed in hostile action so far this month — ought to decrease the urgency of a quick pullout. Pragmatism calls for working within the agreed U.S.-Iraqi plan, and for allowing adjustments based on positive and negative developments in Iraq, rather than on any fixed and arbitrary timetable.

A soldier on patrol in Afghanistan last week. Up to 30,000 more US troops may be sent in by the summer

Is Afghanistan going to be Obama’s Iraq?

The arrival of American reinforcements in southern Afghanistan is likely to mean that, as in Iraq, the British will play a more subordinate role. Since they arrived three years ago in Helmand, the country’s largest province and main heroin producer, British troops have never been deployed in sufficient numbers to gain control of more than a small central area around the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah. Now the main British base, Camp Bastion, is preparing to receive an influx of US troops.

Command of Afghanistan’s southern military region used to rotate among Britain, Canada and the Netherlands. But with the arrival of some 20,000 US troops, doubling the present international deployment, an American major-general will take over a tighter command structure. US officers regard the current situation as a stalemate, with Nato forces until now having been too thinly spread to do more than hold their ground. They expect that to change once the reinforcements are in place.

Mr Langton of the IISS said some British officers welcomed a more unified command structure, in which they would work more closely with American commanders, but it could appear to the public at home that the British force had not succeeded in its mission. This he blamed on the Ministry of Defence, which he said had made no effort to explain what British troops were doing in Afghanistan, “when in fact this is a positive development which could have a dramatic effect on the counter-insurgency campaign”.

Rusi’s Mr Smyth, who is preparing a study of the Taliban’s progress in 2008, said its greatest success had been in “creating the impression it did well”. Despite a high rate of attacks, he said the Taliban was NOT “a homogenous, unified group whose ability to cause violence extends across the country”.

Letter: Bush will be remembered like Lincoln

I am writing about a former president. He had a low approval from some because his presidency was during an unpopular war. He was re-elected for his second term when he ran against a Democrat with military experience. When things weren’t going so well during the war, he changed direction, and generals, and things improved. Some say he abused civil rights and the Constitution, but he did things he felt were right for the country. He imprisoned war combatants and sympathizers without trial. Let’s face it, he was a soft spoken Republican President during tough times.

If it sounds like I am inferring to George W. Bush, well, you could be right. But actually the above paragraph describes our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. He won his re-election vs. Gen. George McClellan (D) as Bush beat Lt. John Kerry (D). The Civil War started turning for the better when Lincoln inserted Gen. U.S. Grant, as things did for Bush when he inserted Gen. David Petraeus in Iraq. Bush strengthened the role of the chief executive for which our Sen. Russ Feingold called for his censure. (That idea floated like it was tied to an engine block.) Lincoln suspended habeus corpus and actually jailed some anti-war Democrats for impeding the war effort, something I think President Bush should have implemented.

For those who celebrate what they think is the demise of the Republican Party due to the last elections, keep in mind that Democrats have a tendency to over-reach. Yes, we now have our first black president, who was elected for “diversity” more than anything else. President Obama has invoked the name Lincoln during many of his speeches, but the only thing they have in common is that both are from the same state. Lincoln was the first Republican president and he fought southern Democrats to end slavery in this country. The party itself was born in Wisconsin and still believes that all men are created equal, and in smaller government, lower taxes and a strong defense.

Soon Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday will be upon us. I would like to say Happy Birthday to him and thank you, and farewell to George W. Bush, for they both served their country and the American people in a time of need.

From DODvClips

According to GEN David Petraeus, the situation in Afghanistan is very different than that in Iraq. He said a carefully designed approach must be appropriate for the specific situation. See more DoD videos at http://dodvclips.mil

the only thing i can think of for SCOTUS to deny all of these cases is that someone is looking at this already…FBI, CIA, Homeland Security. They should at least look at the evidence. I also tracked down that Hawaii would issue a COLB to someone born outside the US but adopted in Hawaii, and said Obama could have been adopted long before anyone even suggested that Obama could have been adopted for legal reasons by his grand parents, (since Indonesia doesn’t recognizes a woman’s right to her children in a Muslim divorce).

I setlled this issue before and elsewhere, but old news keeps coming back like a bad penny. All of what I am about to tell you comes straight out of the rules for the 1960 Census.

IF, and ONLY IF, Obama Sr. was an American citizen would his classification be either NEGRO or BLACK. Since Obama Sr. was a British citizen, and a nonimmigrant from Kenya, the census taker would have checked, “Other,” and filled in the blank whatever the person told them.

They used the names of continents for other non-citizens, such as “South America,” and “Central America.” These are, in fact, examples cited in the 1960 Census instructions. so, it would not be a stretch for a non-citizen from one of the countries in Africa to say, “African.”

HOWEVER, here’s a possible reason why Obama Sr. would have said “African” instead of Kenyan. The Mau Mau uprising against the British, that lasted from 1952 to 1960. Kenya did not become an independent state until 1963.

Barack’s grandfather supposedly was imprisioned and tortured for his suspected role in the uprising. This might have been a good time for Obama Sr. to “get out of Dodge,” and go to the US.

Low birth rate (1.2 children for every 2 adults) will be the demise of Japan and many other industrialized countries. Japan is being hit hardest and earliest because they’ve not not tried to correct this by diluting their national culture with immigrant workers.

Europe’s birth rate is also headed south dramatically – but they are paying a heavy price by losing their culture to the Islamic immigrants they brought in to prop things up. Islamic countries and Muslim communities in Europe have a birth rate at or above 4!

Mark Steyn has an excellent analysis of this dangerous imbalance of birthrates in his book “America Alone”. His assessment of Russia’s behavior in the face of combined threats from declining birth rates and Islam is an eyeopener.

And what do Pelosi and the Dhimmicrats want to do here?…. fund abortion and birth control, open the borders to Mexico and Islam, and eliminate our culture by encouraging mulit-culturism instead of assimilation into America.

And if this were 1993 again, that just might do. But it’s not, and perhaps the silliest part of the new president’s speech was this:

“On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics. We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things.”

Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Put aside the bitter partisanship, so “childish” and “petty,” and we can all be grown up about this and do the things that need to be done.

The idea of a politics conducted within less ideological and more technocratic bounds is seductive.

It’s how things work in much of Europe:

You have a choice between a left-of-center candidate and an ever so slightly right-of-left-of-center candidate, and, regardless of which one you plump for, you wind up with the same old smidgeonette right-of-left-of-right-of-left-of-center government.

The result has been to deliver a society of permanent high unemployment, unaffordable entitlements and deathbed demographics – even before the economic downturn put more immediate question marks over the future.

As Mr. Obama was inaugurated, rioters were besieging their parliaments in Iceland, Latvia and Bulgaria, the beginnings of a civil unrest that will spread inward from the fringes of the European map.

Unlike Ashton Kutcher, these people are not worried about arts education mentoring.

Ten states Plains is the highest rated blogtalk show on the web, but we shouldn’t spread the information around. I thought that is what these blogs where all about. I am not sure where or who to pass on research to anymore. If anyone (Berg/ Hale) has passport proof it would be as close to a silver bullet as we have seen and may be the break that sets the truth in motion. I think Berg and Hale are in a pissing contest both trying to find the same proofs. They should be working together not getting in each others way.

I did email Orly the other night after talking to you guys about the Kenyan Parliament reports. She did post a little bit of it from the first report dated Dec. 5th and they are discussing it some at Bergs site. The second report from Jan.20th is long but again very interesting. O is Kenya’s favorite son. These reports are as good as evidence of O’s ties to Kenya as any I have seen. These are official Kenyan government reports of their leaderships meetings not hearsay , radio spoofs, rumor etc….. I suggest you take a closer look at the links and the websites in Kenya.

    Date: 26 Jan 2006

I can not express in words the disappointment I feel regarding the recent actions of the Court to deny those of us in the military important answers to questions regarding our Constitutional duty as clearly stated in our Oath of Office. While these actions are not an injury such as one might sustain on the field of battle, they constitute an egregious injury to the faith I have placed in the court. While I can not say that of its nature the injury is mortal, it is not without morbidity! While I can not say that I shall succumb to it, the actions of the Court have deeply wounded the spirit of this American Soldier. I am left brokenhearted and conflicted in this moment to the point of tears.

I had earlier written to you and asked that you consider the Oath of Office that I took and every American Soldier takes and asked that you honor and respect its sacred vows in your actions. I ask you now in your heart; have you done this? Have you placed aside the political concerns of this decision? Have you given honor to the fighting men and women who, in the face of death, carry the standard of freedom? Have you given honor to the fallen Soldiers who have no voice; those who are now across the river of eternity and whose bodies lay entombed across the river from where you sit, in the hallowed grounds of Arlington Cemetery? Have you given honor to the Soldiers whose names are not inscribed on any piece of stone or mortar or recorded on any parchment or paper; the names American Soldiers that are known only to God?

Make no mistake, I am keenly aware of the burden placed upon you and do not in any way envy your responsibility or the responsibility of the court in this situation. The dire consequences facing our Nation in either circumstance around your decision are no less and perhaps more than has ever fallen before us as a Nation in our entire history.

Although in my darkest moments, when shadows of doubt encircle me, I remain steadfast to my Oath. Although I can not suppress a feeling of betrayal, I can not knowingly betray my country. I again plea to the Court to release me from this yoke of uncertainty that is weighing me down. Renew my faith in Justice and give me the direction I need to continue to serve. Above all I pray that you not let those Soldiers who have paid and are yet to pay the ultimate sacrifice defending the Constitution to have done so in vain.

Mediocrity Nation: Coach Fired For Team WINNING 100-0

    By Debbie Schlussel

On the one hand, this is involves girls basketball, so who cares? On the other hand, this story is important because it shows how absurd the attack on achievement has gotten on this country.

A Dallas high school basketball coach was fired because his team beat another team 100-0, and he refused to apologize for it. Even worse, the school has forfeited the game to the 0-100 losers in the game. Since when must a coach apologize for doing his job well? Since America became more concerned with people’s feelings–particularly kids–and not recognizing achievement. First, it was affirmative action. Then, it was getting rid of high school valedictorians at many school. And now this.

In just three years as coach, Micah Grimes took his team from a 2-19 joke to state championship contenders. And, now for refusing to apologize for his success, he’s out of a job.

The Covenant School fired its girls basketball coach Sunday, the same day he posted a message on a youth basketball Web site saying he disagreed with school officials who had publicly apologized for the team’s 100-0 victory over Dallas Academy.
In reporting the firing, Kyle Queal, Covenant’s head of school, emphasized that former coach Micah Grimes “now only represents himself” when discussing the game, which has become a national talking point. Queal said he could not say whether the firing was a direct result of the posting and declined to answer any questions.

In a statement posted Sunday on flightbasketball.com, Grimes offered his first public comment since the story was first reported.

“I respectfully disagree with the apology, especially the notion that the Covenant School girls basketball team should feel ’embarrassed’ or ‘ashamed,’ ” part of the post says. “We played the game as it was meant to be played and would not intentionally run up the score on any opponent. Although a wide-margin victory is never evidence of compassion, my girls played with honor and integrity and showed respect to Dallas Academy.”

Grimes also included the quarter-by-quarter scoring on his post: 35, 24, 29, 12.

At the end of his post on the Web site, which identifies him as co-founder of Flight Basketball, Grimes wrote, “So if I lose my job over these statements, I will walk away with my integrity.” . . .

He was in his fourth season as girls basketball coach, having built the program from a 2-19 record his first season to a state championship contender last season. Covenant, which plays larger out-of-district schools, is 6-3 this season and undefeated in its Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools district. It has informed TAPPS headquarters that it has chosen to forfeit the Dallas Academy game. . . .

On Thursday, Covenant posted a statement on its Web site that said it “regrets … the outcome of the game with the Dallas Academy Varsity Girls Basketball team. It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened. This clearly does not reflect a Christ-like and honorable approach to competition.”

In real life, there are winners and losers–sometimes as lopsided as a 100-0 win. It’s a bad lesson for everyone to make a coach apologize for such a win and then to fire him when he won’t.

With this constant attack on achievement in America, we’ve become Mediocrity Nation.

I listened to the whole radio show last night. First of all, Ed did not plan to leave his mic turned on.. He has done that many times before and we could hear a little spats from it. ed is always accidentally turning off calls and such. He always gets too excited and needs to slow down. He was Not planning on any of that occuring last night. Caren got the call while he was on the air after he shut down a previous host for discussing the hate crimes act. None of that was planned.
Second, A senator has the 2 documents and is awaiting verification as to them being real. Acrually, there are more than just the senators copies in a safe place.
Third, the documents were sent with cooperation of Interpol.
Fourth, the documents are copies of Indonesian passport information verifying Indonesian citizenship at an adult age… Plus copy of his adoption by his Indonesian step-father
Last of all, these copies are in a safe place and if anything happens to Ed or caren, they will be released immediately.. They have not yet been verified as being authentic. Until then, I will say I will believe it when I see the actual documents. Ed has been working realy hard on this and for his patriotism, he deserves our respect.
I may not be 100% correct in my statement about the documents, but this is what I got out of all the excitement. Forgive me for anything I may have interpreted wrongly… If you wish to get it first hand and more accurate, ask Ed.

The interview was taped this evening and is set to air at 11 pm ET, as Mitchell is in the air and on his way to the region.

Based in Dubai, Al-Arabiya estimates that it has a potential audience exceeding 23 million in the Gulf region.

Heard about the Pocket Obama? They’re selling them on Amazon.com. The description is annoying enough, but check out the last sentence!

“Printed in a size that easily fits into pocket or purse, this book is an anthology of quotations borrowed from Barack Obama’s speeches and writings. POCKET OBAMA serves as a reminder of the amazing power of oratory and the remarkable ability of this man to move people with his words. His superb and captivating oratory style has earned comparisons to John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, and this collection presents words that catapulted his remarkable rise to the American Presidency. Includes themes of democracy, politics, war, terrorism, race, community, jurisprudence, faith, personal responsibility, national identity, and above all, his hoped-for vision of a new America. This book is truly a primer for readers who want to examine the substance of his thought and reflect on the next great chapter in the American story. It is an unofficial requirement for every citizen to own, to read, and to carry this book at all times.”

So how long before the Brown Shirts start checking to see if you’re dutifully carrying your ‘required’ book? There are no words, I’m speechless. I’ll bet Troy or Slider or j.b. will come up with something to amuse us.

Phil & Lisa got a whole pile of exorbitant bills the past few days for all these printings, process servers, court costs and other items.

I hope people will donate something, if you can. It’s really important and a very crucial time. Phil needs money to litigate these cases. Phil, Lisa, me and the other volunteers can’t work any cheaper than free. EVERYTHING is going toward’s paying expenses. No one has been getting paid for our efforts. I can’t even tell you how much this has cost Phil personally. Please be as generous as you can.

Thank you for your support and donations. Every little bit helps. Just think if we could get a lot of people to donate a few dollars each, it all adds up. I know people are hurting, but this is for the future of our country, our Constitution as well as that of all our children and grandchildren.

On behalf of Phil, Lisa, the other volunteers and myself, thank you. Thank you all very much.
