“We are working toward a cease-fire that would not allow a re-establishment of the status quo ante, where Hamas could launch rockets” Condoleezza Rice

WASHINGTON, Jan 6 (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will go to the United Nations on Tuesday to help with international efforts to arrange a ceasefire in Gaza, the State Department said.

“The purpose of her trip is to move forward the international efforts to create a ceasefire in Gaza,” said a State Department official, who spoke on condition he not be named.

Rice planned to leave Washington for New York later on Tuesday to meet Arab ministers and other allies and consult with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during her overnight trip.

The top U.S. diplomat will also meet the foreign minister of Turkey, who has been among the leading players working for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, which launched a ground offensive into Gaza last weekend.

In addition, Rice will attend a U.N. Security Council meeting set for 5 p.m. EST (2200 GMT), the department official said.

While Europeans and Arabs have broadly been calling for an immediate ceasefire in the latest violence, the United States has been urging a “during and sustainable” truce, which would take longer to draw up.

In the Lebanon crisis in 2006, the United States came under strong criticism for not calling for an immediate ceasefire. This was seen as giving Israel a green light to continue pounding Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

Washington (RushPRnews) 01/06/09 — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is working on three elements of a plan that could lead to a “sustainable, durable cease-fire” between the Israelis and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, a State Department spokesman says.

The three elements include:

an end to rocket attacks from Gaza into Israeli communities;

the opening of Israeli border crossings by Israel into and out of Gaza;

and the issue of tunnels used to smuggle arms and munitions into Gaza,

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said at a regular January 5 briefing.

Sept. 11 shaped some of Bush legacy

    By: Hugh Hewitt

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/17063.html

    EXCERPT

Bush’s great legacy is the peaceful transition of power in an age of terror, a legacy made possible by his courage and his resolve to take the battle to our enemies, confront and defeat them wherever they could be found, contain them when they could not be attacked, and demand of the world a seriousness about the threat that remains real and deadly in its intentions. He has modeled how to act as president in this new media age of virulent venom at home and of fanatical violence and hatred abroad — with detachment toward the former and courage toward the latter.

Count me among the 30 percent, which will soon be 40 percent — and then more than 50 percent much sooner than most of the chattering class can conceive. Bush is deeply loved and respected in places as diverse as remote villages in Africa and booming tech centers in India and, despite the noise from a left still trying to diminish his character, among tens of millions of Americans grateful for the care he has taken to protect them and their families.

But his greatest admirers will be Americans, and perhaps Afghans, Iraqis, Israelis, Indians and Africans a century or more from now who read about his record and resolve in so many efforts will marvel at his restraint and credit his faith and his family for a remarkable service to freedom.

Maybe it is his strategy to simply sit on it indefinetely, trying to avoid showing to 320 million American citizens where does he really stand in regards to the Constitution of this country:

In case it was not posted before:

written by Linda Starr, January 06, 2009

In case you don’t know it, once he started collecting “paychecks” from the state or US taxpayers for his seat as a state Senator or as a US Senator, then it became fraud when he wasn’t eligible as a non-citizen. Ever heard of expense accounts? State Senators and US Senators also get expense accounts. There are also the costs involved in protecting him and his family when he knew he wasn’t eligible. There are millions of dollars in expenses involved with his candidacy, when he knew he wasn’t eligible, which benefitted him and his wife and family. You clearly have no idea the world of hurt he is going to face when the truth comes out, and it will sooner or later. It may come when the SCOTUS takens acton, or it may have to come as a result of the Civil War we will surely have when people resist accepting a fraud for POSTUS.

When he filed fraudulent income tax returns, claiming deductions he wasn’t entitled to because he fraudulently acquired his State Senate seat and his US Senate seat, which weren’t his to collect or claim. That is filing fraudulent income tax returns. Apparently, he also filed fraudulent financial disclosure forms going back to 2000. He claimed on them he didn’t have any other outstanding debts which were not listed. No student loans were listed, yet Mich**le claimed early last year that they just paid off his student loans.

These people can’t tell the truth on even the simplest issues. And when they both signed their joint income tax returns making a fraudulent claim for the difference between the price they paid for the house and the amount it was worth, they claimed it as capitol gains when it should have been claimed as income, a much higher tax rate. These people are in major trouble and the longer the fraud and lies go on, the more trouble they will both face. She signed those income tax returns, too. She was a Harvard educated lawyer. Granted she was permanently disgraced and disbarred, but these are very well educated people all the same. There is no excuse for the criminal acts they are both committing, or the fraud they are perpetrating on the American people. They will both be locked up away from any public contact when the truth comes out. The government won’t be able to ensure our national security secrets if they allow either of them any outside contact.

I strongly suggest you start reevaluating all the ways the circle of guilt is tightening around Barry & Mich**le.

  9. ladyliberty Says:

And this from Linda Starr (from Obamcrimes blog):

Actually, over the past 24 hours, I’ve revealed a lot of information. Especially today. I’ve probably said much more than I should have. I also know that all those officials in Hawaii who know the truth about the COLB, and people like Howard Dean, Pelosi, and Feinstein who had responsibility for vetting this guy can face civil penalties from civil suits by harmed citizens. They can also be prosecuted for aiding and abetting multiple frauds and felonies. MUCH more serious consequences than violating a state law prohibiting privacy. The net of legal peril is spreading out to catch other victims of Barry’s fraud and lies. It’s sad really. So many decent people sacrificed on the altar of Barry & Mich**le’s ambitions, along with co-conspirators Donna Brazile, Howard Dean, Pelosi, Rahm Emanuele, Feinstein and Harry Reid.

Phil will determine what he will do next. It still isn’t up to me.

    Hi all,

A group named “Frustrated Veterans of America” ran a full page advertisement Monday, 5 Jan 09 edition, page 21, questioning Obama’ natural born citizenship and questioning why the Courts have not allowed citizens standing under the 1st Amendment to our Constitution to challenge Obama’s qualifications under the Constitution to serve as President and why Congress has not done anything.

One disturbing quote in the article was that it reported that four U.S. Congressman (unnamed) who were queried by these advocates on the issue said that Congress does not have the authority to question presidential candidates about their qualifications!

The Congressman actually said that to them. Geez, these Congressman are either stupid or are playing dumb.

They certainly do have the right to challenge Obama’s qualifications in the Joint Session of Congress on the 8th.

Those Congressman should read the rules governing the Joint Session. If only one Senator and one Congressman object together in writing and challenge Obama’s qualifications under the Constitution, then an investigation must be launched.

The advertising also shows the pictures of the nine SCOTUS justices and ask them to take up the case of Berg vs. Obama case before them in Conference on 9 Jan 09 and have a full hearing.

These Congressman are either dumb or deliberately putting out false and misleading information to their constituents who are asking questions.

And of course, our media is silent and ignoring all pleas for help on this. Ugh!

Barack Obama sent a message with the selection of Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff, but apparently didn’t think enough people understood it. He sent a stronger message yesterday with his choice of Leon Panetta for Director of CIA, and this time, it’s unmistakable. Political considerations will trump competence and experience, even in the most critical roles Obama has to fill.

The US is currently fighting an asymmetrical war on two hot fronts, but more to the point, in every corner of the world. We need our best people at the helm at Defense and in the intelligence arenas, people with insight into the problems and challenges facing America at war.

Barack Obama either doesn’t understand that or cares less about security than he does about politics.

    Obama’s Senate replacement turned away

    http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,24882767-12335,00.html

US officials refused to allow the man chosen by Illinois’s scandal-tainted governor to replace president-elect Barack Obama to be sworn in at the start of a new senate session.

“I presented my credentials to the secretary of the Senate, and advised that my credentials were not in order,” Roland Burris said, after arriving at the Capitol building amid a media frenzy.

“I am not seeking to have any type of confrontation. I will now consult with my attorneys, and we will determine what our next step will be,” Burris added.

He was picked last week to fill Obama’s vacant Senate seat by Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, who is under investigation for earlier allegedly seeking to sell the empty Senate seat to the highest bidder.

Obama, who was the only African-American senator and resigned his seat after winning the November 4 presidential elections, has said he regrets Burris’s appointment and that the governor should instead resign.

Lawyer Timothy Wright said Burris now had several options including further negotiations with top senators or seeking to win a court ruling.

He said Burris had not been allowed to go onto the floor of the 100-seat Senate or to take the oath of office.

“All of which we think was improperly done. And it is against the law of this land. We will consider our options, and we will certainly let you know what our decisions will be soon thereafter,” Wright said.

New senators elected in the November elections as well as the new House of Representatives were being sworn in to take up their seats in the 111th Congress.

Earlier Tuesday, Burris had tense negotiations with Terrence Gainer, the Senate’s sergeant at arms.

“I’m presenting myself as the legally appointed senator from the state of Illinois. It is my hope and prayer that they recognize that the appointment is legal,” he said earlier in a nationally broadcast interview.

Burris dismissed the Senate Democratic leadership’s position that he cannot be seated because he was appointed by a governor accused in a criminal complaint of trying to benefit financially from his authority to fill the seat that Obama vacated after winning the presidential election.

Burriss said his belief is that his appointment is constitutional and that “I have no knowledge of where a secretary of state has veto power over a governor carrying out his constitutional duties.”

Burris also maintained that the announcement by Blagojevich Monday of a date for an election for a successor to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., proves the governor still has legal authority to carry out his duties.

Emanuel will be Obama’s White House chief of staff.

“There’s nothing wrong with Roland Burris and there’s nothing wrong with the appointment,” Burris said.

Well n00bie, Obama posted as his proof of eligibility a document that is not only insufficient to prove if he is a natiural born American citizen, the document is most likely a forgery. Obama used that document to collect hundreds of millions in campaign funds, so if he used a forged document and/or knew he was not eligible to be president, if just one case goes to the discovery phase in a court of law, Obama will be exposed to criminal prosecution by his document being found a forgery. Is that exposure worht a million dollars to try and avoid? Barack Obama’s handlers think so. The DNC who put this lying fraud into the ring think so. Berg talked about 3 different conclusions based on the time of the ruling – before President-Elect, during President-Elect, and as President. Can someone explain this further ? I can only find in the 20th Amendment where VP-Elect will ‘act’ as President, this can only happen after inauguration.

Also, could the SCOTUS review this matter and still keep the details secret and just give the public a ruling that BO is qualified ? Or will the evidence have to be made public ?

Berg filed one injunction to stay the electoral process until Obama has proven his eligibility to the Court. The injunction pertains to the three stages of the process: (1) certifying electors, (2) Electors voting, and (3) House counting and validating the votes.
The first conference scheduled by SCOTUS is the writ of certiori that Berg filed to get the SCOTUS to consider the injunction and the Constitutional questions raised, as something extremely important and serious enough for them to consider. The second conference is about the injuction itself.
The fact that the writ conference occurs after the House vote on Jan 8, and the injunction conference occurs a week later will pose no problem for SCOTUS who can stay the inauguration until Obama produces his vault birth certificate. If Obama fails to do so, then he will be disqualified.
Yes, everyone will know about it after it happens.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/01/06/what-the-panetta-appointment-means/

    This isn’t a game, Barrrry!

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd, the guy is 70 years old! I mean, what about the Old Man McCain? Two years difference. What a joke he/they are making of ALL of it.

Shameless. Barry has NO CLUE what he is doing. He is in the biggest clusterf*ck of his life and he can’t see straight to save himself or any of us either, for that matter. This is, unfortunately, just going to get worse (or better) depending on how you look at it, I guess.

We need to visualize Barry in handcuffs and chains, every time we say his (nasty) name!

He has modeled how to act as president in this new media age of virulent venom at home and of fanatical violence and hatred abroad — with detachment toward the former and courage toward the latter.. …………

So this is what I get for reading the blog backwards…….I could have saved myself the time and slightly rising blood pressure had I read from the top down.
What I meant to say (read; should have said) earlier was, “What Hugh said”.
    *sigh*

Republican Norm Coleman, who received 225 fewer votes than DFLer Al Franken in the U.S. Senate recount, will speak to the media at 3 p.m. today in St. Paul.

It will be Coleman’s first public appearance in Minnesota since the recount results were certified Monday by the state Canvassing Board

LMAO. Immelt needs to go. Pure and simple. He must be the most intelligent idiot, ever. We have GE stock……………..it is /was down 74% as of last week. What has happened at NBC is a disaster. Does anyone recall when NBC used to be what to watch? There is ONE show on NBC that deserves to be aired-The Office. I cannot believe Immelt has’nt been canned as the stock holders continue to get conned. *ugh*

    FOX, lets look at facts,
fact, yes the BIGGEST natural disaster, and still took as much time to get there as it did HUGO
fact, people were told to leave or get to a shelter, they didnt, YOU CANT FIX STUPID!!!! dont tell me people couldnt get there, they sure as hell did after the hurricane hit now didnt they, thru chest deep water i might add.
fact, the state at that time, had to ask for help, since they are the ones on they ground with first responders, they didnt, they suffered, mary was voted outta office
fact, every one new this thing was gonna be bad, except for the retards who stayed behind
fact, mayor nagin is an idiot, he was suppose to evac the city, but since he wanted to prove what a big man he was, seem to drop the ball on the evac.
fact, they told people you are on your own if you dont leave

HOW PLAIN AND SIMPLE CAN YOU MAKE IT!!!!!! IF PEOPLE DIDNT HEAD THE WARNING, THEY ARE RETARDED!!!! I TOLD YOU WHAT THE MAN SAID TO SHEP. THIS IS THE DIFF. BETWEEN LIBERAL AND CONSERVATIVE. WHEN YOU RELY ON THE GOVERNEMENT, NO MATTER WHO IS IN CHARGE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE DISAPPOINTED, BUT ITS THE LIBS WHO WANNA POINT THE FINGER, FOREVER THE VICTIM<–and that is a fact as well

  39. sliderblaze Says:

    note onto that last statement

we are a nation of victims now, we cant say gay, retard, jew, cracker, the ever revolving you cant call a black person this….etc. with out someone pissing there pants, it’s retarded

  40. sliderblaze Says:

What, a Dem trying to steal an election…i cant, wont believe it….

  41. j.b. Says:

slider, did you hear Nagin call himself The Chocolate Mayor?

  42. sliderblaze Says:

it really is apparent that Obama has no clue on what he is doing.

  43. j.b. Says:

The whole victim thing is getting really old………………..

  44. sliderblaze Says:

not sure about that but i do know he wanted new orleans to become a “chocolate city”, he took mad heat for that and had to amend what he said

  45. j.b. Says:

it really is apparent that Obama has no clue on what he is doing.

    Indeed.

  46. sliderblaze Says:

it’s the liberal way, anything that might have the slightest racial connotation(and believe me, it dont take much for a lib) they wanna say thats racist

  47. j.b. Says:

Ah, perhaps I am mistaken, then. Close enough for me, however. The point is I would NOT call a city or a mayor “chocolate”, but Nagin did……..I simply attempted to quote him when maybe I should have just paraphrased him. lol.

  48. sliderblaze Says:

he wanted it to become a black city, how racist is that

    Nagin’s “Delicious Drink”

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/01/17/nagin.city/

    Wednesday, January 18, 2006

On Monday, Nagin said God wanted New Orleans to be predominantly black and said he didn’t care what the predominantly white Uptown section of the city had to say about it.

“I don’t care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day,” he said. “This city will be a majority African-American city. It’s the way God wants it to be.”

After the statement, he insisted he wasn’t being divisive.

“How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink. That is the chocolate I am talking about,” he said. “New Orleans was a chocolate city before Katrina. It is going to be a chocolate city after. How is that divisive? It is white and black working together, coming together and making something special.”

  50. sliderblaze Says:

lol, rosetta, i guess my memory isnt failing me after all…

  51. hockeyfan530 Says:

That’s funny. What a great spin. LOL Not quite as good as Barry. But Barry would have just ignored it and the media woud have let it drop.

  52. sliderblaze Says:

well, we need someone with balls in the press, i woulda called him on that.

“um, thats not what you said” you said chocolate city, not chocolate milk city. you seemed to have left out the white part of that oringal statement. dick

  53. j.b. Says:

omg. That is the 1st time I heard that part! What a chocolate mess! j/k! j/k!

  55. rosettasister Says:

If Nagin can get reelected after criminal negligence, anyone can.

Remember the image of the flooded, unused school busses.

And that goes for the governor at the time, too.

There was plenty of blame to go around.

But the myth the media wants to perpetuate is that it was all Bush’s fault.

    Good luck, Obama!

Rose the scenario you described about the busses is the first thing that plays in my mind when I think about ALL the balls that were dropped when it came to who was ultimately responsible there.
Well, that and Geraldo at the dome…….good grief! Remember ALL the lies about the (s’posed) crimes being committed in the dome? Lawsuits waiting to happen, imo, that thankfully never saw the light.

Blago got the tapes from Fitzy today…………….this is only going to get better, folks!

  63. hockeyfan530 Says:

you know I was part of the flooding that happen in Indiana. I received a $600 Gift card from Walmart…. and $150 grocery store certificate…

I wrote a list… and bought triple of what I usually bought in a span of a month… laundry soap, dog food, etc..all the necessary things you need.. i also bought shoes because where we kept our casual shoes got flooded…

If you remember we also lost the building we had our auto repair business in… so I had to plan smart because I didn’t know when we would get another paycheck….My hubby received one month of emergency unemployment for the self employed.. Until we were able to get back on our feet and get another building to rent..

i don’t feel shame for accepting the assistance…We needed it and it gave us a hand up at a time of need….

Why it makes me so angry when I read about how the LA residents used their money on stupid sh!t…lap dances. When another family would of used it for truly needed things…

j.b – The Mayor of New Orleans did not in fact say he was a Chocolate mayor as the quote above clearly indicates. And yes, you should have put it in quotation marks if you thought he had in fact said it, then people coming on to this blog would not feel your comment was racist. Look, I don’t throw around that term like it is nothing. We have many “lurkers/readers” that may not know you and would make assumptions based on your post. Just watching your back and trying to keep the squeaky clean reputation of the Rosetta Gang. We can agree to disagree on the rest of it. As I said to Slider, there are very few supporters left out there for Bush—and there is a reason for it! In that non-supporter group are millions of Republicans too! Again, I don’t make up the news, I just report it. 😉 (p.s. For what it is worth, I think Nagin is an incompetent Mayor as well)

  76. Foxtrot Says:

And Slider, it isn’t about being “p.c” as you say, it is about respect. Everyone isn’t thick skinned like you. As a matter of fact, most people are not when it comes to race, sexual orientation, etc. You have to remember that many of these people have been persecuted their entire lives and they are just sick of it! My gay and black friends (some of whom are republican) have always said to me, “If you stand by and let people label or denigrade us, then you are just as bad as those making the comments. It perpetuates a stereotype or a hatred among some people, whether the comments were meant to hurt or not!” I have lived my life since then with that notion in my head. I am always willing to err on the side of respect, then simply disregard it as being P.C. and not necessary. I would rather be safe and respectful, then inadvertently be careless and disrespectful toward anyone. “Do unto others . . .” As with j.b., we will agree to disagree.

  77. hockeyfan530 Says:

although i don’t agree with bush spending money like barry telling lies I still believe overall, he is not to blame for everything he was blamed for. As for Iraq, it wasn’t just about WMD’s. Although, I can guarantee that Iraq did have them….but anyway….not exclusively about WMD’s. The current housing situation….that’s the dems fault, barry, ACORN ect more so than the reps and bush. As far as why Bush is so unpopular….you said it yourself fox….”Again, I don’t make up the news,…”…no, the MSM makes it up for you and the rest of America.

still love ya though…just don’t agree

  78. Foxtrot Says:
