“W. House: Russia should withdraw from Georgia”

The sign reads: “Russian Aggression out of Georgia!”

CRAWFORD, Tex, Aug 18 (Reuters) – The White House said on Monday that Russia, as promised, should withdraw its forces from Georgia “without delay.”

White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe, in Texas where President George W. Bush is at his ranch, said the United States continues to monitor the situation. The Russians have said they would withdraw their forces and that should be achieved “without delay,” he said.

“If it rolled in after August 6th, it needs to roll out.”

Russia said it had begun a military pullback from Georgia on Monday, but Georgia said it had seen no signs of Russian forces pulling out as promised and that, if anything, they were broadening their presence in the country.
