Joseph was an old man, an old man was he,

When he married Virgin Mary, the Queen of Galilee.

As Mary and Joseph were walking one day

To an orchard of cherry trees they happened to stray.

Then Mary said to Joseph, so meek and so mild,

“Pick me some cherries, Joseph, for I am with child.”

Then Joseph flew angry, so angry flew he,

“Let the father of your baby gather cherries for thee.”

The up spoke Lord Jesus from in his mother’s womb,

“Bow low down, cherry trees, bow down to the ground.”

And the cherry trees bowed down, bowed low to the ground,

And Mary gathered cherries while Joseph stood round.

Then Joseph he kneeled down and a question gave he,

“Come tell me, pretty baby, when your birthday shall be.”

“On the fifth day of January my birthday shall be,

And the stars in the heaven shall all bow down to me.”

Congressional leaders fight against posting health care bills online

As Congress lurches closer to a decision on an enormous overhaul of the American health care system, pressure is mounting on legislative leaders to make the final bill available online for citizens to read before a vote.

Lawmakers were given just hours to examine the $789 billion stimulus plan, sweeping climate-change legislation and a $700 billion bailout package before final votes.

While most Americans normally ignore parliamentary detail, with health care looming, voters are suddenly paying attention. The Senate is expected to vote on a health bill in the weeks to come, representing months of work and stretching to hundreds of pages. And as of now, there is no assurance that members of the public, or even the senators themselves, will be given the chance to read the legislation before a vote.

“The American people are now suspicious of not only the lawmakers, but the process they hide behind to do their work,” said Michael Franc, president of government relations for the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.

    What exactly are you suggesting?

That an African-American is too dense to ask intelligent questions?

Why denigrate a public servant? Remember what ol’ sourpuss Reid had to say about Justice Thomas?

If I were running against Reid, I would play that sound bite over and over again.

So Justice Thomas is reserved, and only asks questions when it matters.
I’d like to think that I’m the same way.

FWIW: Neil Cavuto just interviewed a Dem congressman–didn’t catch his name sorry–and this guy said that public option is guarenteed to be in the healthcare bill coming out of the house. Said Schumer in Senate said he has confirmed at least 53 votes in Senate for bill containing the public option. Looks like it’s going to drop one our heads folks. They are putting the full court press on Snowe to get her to vote their way. This makes me sick. No matter how hard we protest this stuff, they do only what ‘they the great ones who know better than we ignorant ones’ want to do to preserve their power and refuse to listen. Honestly, with the hit the dollar is taking, the billions in debt we have, and the deficits already accrued, we are royally being screwed. Hope everyone bought gold and silver. It is all really going to happen and I don’t see anyone, not anyone, who is willing to stand up and stop the madness. Not a judge, not a govt. representative, not a state, not a media person,……no one. Good luck aall and say some prayers that we even survive as a country.

Sotomayor takes vocal role on her first day

    http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-court-sotomayor6-2009oct06,0,5943266.story?track=rss

In the past, some rookie justices listened for days before joining in the fast-paced arguments. Justice David H. Souter, the reserved New Hampshire native whom Sotomayor replaced, said little during his first year. Justice Clarence Thomas has not asked a question for more than three years.

(So both Souter and Thomas were “reserved?”)

Notice the difference in the tone of the headline.

  20. rosettasister Says:

Why not just focus on Thomas’s words?

Justice Clarence Thomas says a new justice takes the court out of its comfort zone — especially when there’s been a long period without a vacancy, as there was between 1994 and 2005.

“We had a long run together. And you get comfortable with that, and then it changes,” Thomas said.

“And now it’s changing again. So the institution, the nine’s different. Your reaction is different. You get to learn each other. You have to start all over. The chemistry is different.”

  21. rosettasister Says:

I gotta tell you. I’m tired of this man being denigrated. I’m tired of Condoleezza Rice being denigrated.

Please take the time to read this very important information.

Below is an overview of the Continental Congress (CC) with links to do your own research.

The first Continental Congress was called in the early 1770’s which ultimately resulted in the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and the birth of this great nation. This CC is being called to RESTORE the Constitution and the Republic. (It’s a common misunderstanding to think it’s a Constitutional Convention, which could be used to amend the Constitution. It is the complete opposite – it is to DEFEND the Constitution)  The decision to convene CC2009 comes after fourteen years of filing Petitions for Redress with the federal government for repeated violations of the Constitution by We The People Foundation for Constitutional Education, a national 501 c3 non-profit with headquarters in New York. It is not rooted in any political party – all parties have been equally ignoring The People.

This is YOUR opportunity to vote – with a paper ballot that you KNOW will be counted – for your state’s delegates to represent YOU. Please spread the word about this election – the mainstream media isn’t doing it, that’s for sure. If you are not able to vote on Saturday, please look at their website and donate if you choose. This event will be broadcast live for all the world to see, and it takes a lot to pull it together. Just as those courageous Founding Fathers did over 200 years ago, Citizens of the United States are making this happen.

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Citizens Rising in Defense of the Constitution

States prepare for coming Continental Congress

    National Election Day October 10th

Colorado, October 5, 2009 – Citizens fed up with constitutional violations causing devastation to the economy and the Nation, are stepping up to join constitutional activist across this great country to prepare for a modern-day Continental Congress to take place November 9-22, 2009 in St. Charles, Illinois. Continental Congress 2009 is not political or partisan and seeks to defend, not amend, the current Constitution.

Many have asked, “What is the next appropriate step for the free people of America?” The constitutional answer is to hold this historic national assembly to inspire the critical mass necessary to restore constitutional governance. 153 citizen-nominated-and-elected Delegates – three from each state and Washington, D.C. — will convene for two weeks to methodically and factually document constitutional abuses which have taken place over many years, across many administrations, every branch of government and both parties. Delegates will consider specific non-violent, legal civic actions to stop the wrong doings.

All nominees have a “proven passion for the Constitution.” You can view the delegates’ profiles by visiting http://www.givemeliberty.org and clicking on your state. Delegates will make their own way to Illinois, but room and board will be covered by donations contributed by We The People Foundation members.

Election Centers have been secured and Election Day will be held October 10, 2009. The election will be constitutionally valid using visible and transparent vote counting; an effort planner’s hope will eliminate the constitutionally invalid general electoral procedures currently in use. Where polling places are not available, a mail-in ballot process is being offered.

The decision to convene CC2009 comes after fourteen years of filing Petitions for Redress with the federal government for repeated violations of the Constitution by We The People Foundation for Constitutional Education, a national 501 c3 non-profit with headquarters in New York. The Right to petition was put in the First Amendment by the Founding Fathers, who did not want Americans to ever again experience a situation where their individual rights or civil liberties were threatened. To date, this Right has never been recognized by the government nor defined in any court of law. Robert L. Schulz, Chairman of We The People Foundation says it must now be used to hold elected officials accountable to the rest of the Constitution “which will shift the power from the government back to The People where it belongs.”

“Americans are waking up to the urgent need to stand strong for the Founding Principles and our Constitution, as every violation further devastates our economy and our way of life,” says Schulz. “We all desire the same outcome: restoration of our Nation. Continental Congress 2009 is the only strategy we see that is not political or partisan, does not rely on the electoral process, and can bring peaceful and legal solutions to our current situation.” We The People expect this effort to be the catalyst that brings the freedom-loving people of America together at this critical time.

Readers can learn more about We The People Congress and the Continental Congress 2009 by going to givemeliberty.org or calling 877-225-6059 ext 9.

    “I’M TIRED”
    by DefendUSx October 06, 2009 22:43

I’ll be 63 soon. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce, and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I’ve worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven’t called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there’s no retirement in sight, and I’m tired. Very tired.

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth around” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy or stupid to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to “keep people in their homes.” Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I’m willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I’m tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros, and Hollywood entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe, the freedom of the press of China, the crime and violence of Mexico, the tolerance for Christian people of Iran, and the freedom of speech of Venezuela. Won’t multiculturalism be beautiful?

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honor”; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers”; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery”; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to.

I believe “a man should be judged by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin.” I’m tired of being told that “race doesn’t matter” in the post-racial world of Obama, when it’s all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of US Senators from Illinois.

I think it’s very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I’m tired of a news media that thinks Bush’s fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama’s, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush’s military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn’t vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I’m tired of being told that out of “tolerance for other cultures” we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue, or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global` warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore’s, and if you’re greener than Gore, you’re green enough.

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don’t think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I’m tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I’m tired of illegal aliens being called “undocumented workers,” especially the ones who aren’t working, but are living on welfare or crime. What’s next? Calling drug dealers “Undocumented Pharmacists”? And, no, I’m not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it’s been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I’m willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn’t have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military… Those are the citizens we need.

I’m tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here’s the deal. I’ll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we’ll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I’m tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I’m tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois, where the “Illinois Combine” of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama’s cabinet as well.

I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers, and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I’m tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called “poor”. The majority of Americans didn’t have that in 1970, but we didn’t know we were “poor.” The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I’m real tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I’m not going to have to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my granddaughter.

The truly frightening thing is that Ayers and Dohrn, who unequivocally state that they are communists in the book, firmly believe and decry the “institutional racism” ingrained in the US, rail against “white supremacy” and bash Jews every chance they get. Based on Obama’s limited exposure to “typical white people”, the views of Ayers and Dorhn undoubtedly shape Obama’s view of White and Jewish America. Think about it. With whom has Obama associated during his life? Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Communist Party. His white grandfather, who was friends with Davis and was, at least, sympathetic to communism. William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. Jeremiah Wright. Father Phleger. Rashid Khalidi. The New Party.

  75. jrinNC Says:

Bless your heart Troy. No God didn’t punish you. As much as we hate to do things like that YOU WERE DOING THE RIGHT THING. I am debating whether or not to take the feral at my house to the pound. He is so precious, but a tick got on him this summer and he has a big sore on his neck that I have been watching now for about 3 weeks and it is not getting better. I did trap him two days ago, but by the time I got in the house and called the vet to say I was on the way with him – he got out. Now he is afraid to even come up on my deck. So I have to wait a few weeks and hopefully he will forget and I can catch him again.

But let me say this, I don’t know how many you have and I don’t know if they do this is your area, but they do here, they can be taken in and neutered or spayed at no cost and released back into your neighborhood. Also, we have groups that will do it at a very minimal cost to you. They will even come and catch them for you. So if you want to keep them and feed them at least they won’t be breeding. My brother did this and he has about 8 of them.

Also, STAY OFF THAT LEG. I know it is hard on you, but you don’t want more problems down the road.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has lost the power to arrest a person solely because of his or her immigration status but said he will continue conducting crime suppression sweeps that target illegal immigrants.

“The sheriff is coming back again in another two weeks in crime suppression,” Arpaio announced during a news conference Tuesday.

Arpaio said the federal government has stripped the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office of the power to enforce federal immigration law in the field.

Instead, the sheriff plans to use a state law to arrest illegal immigrants.

Depending on the situation, he also said his deputies will turn illegal immigrants over to ICE or transport them to the border.

“I’m going to say, ‘Goodbye. Have a nice day! Make sure you get a bus ticket back to Mexico.’ Ok. I can’t do that. I will not do that,” Arpaio said. “I will find a way to keep enforcing the law.”

But the fact remains, Chris Matthews lied through his teeth by asserting that the Constitution defines “natural born citizen”. This was pure propaganda.

I don’t imagine what this smirking dog Matthews feels like as he fetches the bones of his overlord masters. A man sold and beholden to other men is not a man. Chris Mathews is a beholden dog on his knees crawling for a pat on his doggy belly from his masters. I think that is what Sheriff Joe is saying. He has to enforce existing law, both federal and state.

And if he can no longer remove illegals from Maricopa County under a federal statute, he is saying he can under a state statute.

I am certainly no expert on what county sheriffs can and cannot do, so I would like to hear more about what you’re suggesting.

Every once in a while I run into an ICE agent or border patrol agent (I think they’re federal police?) and I’ve been told that the situation at the border is going from bad to worse.

God help the Mexican people and their govt in their fight against these criminals.

But these same criminals would like nothing more than to export their criminal activities to Arizona.

We cannot stop all of it at the border, but sending as many of these illegals home as possible is imperative.

    BaucusCare

Senate Health Bill Imposes $29B More in Taxes

Congressional tax experts reported that the bill would impose more taxes on health care industries than originally thought — levies that could be passed on to consumers

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/06/b-taxes-senate-health/

The committee, the last one in Congress yet to act on sweeping health care legislation, had planned a final vote for this week but has been waiting for a more complete set of calculations from the Congressional Budget Office.

Tuesday’s tax report didn’t shed light on the total cost of the bill, which stood at under $900 billion over 10 years going into a two-week drafting session that ended this past Friday. Dozens of amendments were added during the session, some making substantial changes, so senators want to see where that leaves the price tag of the bill before they go to a final vote.

That figure could be available as early as Wednesday, according to Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont. Baucus has a 13-10 Democratic majority on the panel so the outcome is hardly in question, though the margin may be.

Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, the only Republican seen as a possible “yes” vote, declined to tip her hand on Tuesday, but said she still thought the bill needed more work to ensure coverage plans were made affordable to low- and middle-income families. She suggested that the value of the lowest-value plan to be offered within a new purchasing exchange might have to be lowered even more.

“I’m still grappling with the question of affordability,” she said.

Senators continued to debate whether to allow the government to sell insurance in competition with private industry. A compromise by Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., that would give states menus of options to choose from to advance as alternatives to the private market was getting interest from some senators.

(Senator Grassley was on Fox this morning. He said the Senate Finance Committee was still waiting for CBO score on “summary” language. He seemed to suggest price tag would come in higher than expected and the committee will have to go back to drawing board.)

Regarding the ANTIVAXERS and the PROVAXERS, it is my suggestion to beware of both!

The antivaxers seem to be a cobbled together group of (a) those honest people who are overly alarmed at negative reaction rates to vaccines, while not understanding what happens in normal populations and the benefits from vaccines to such populations as demonstrated over multiple decades, (b) the honest and uneducated about vaccines and the immune system becoming alarmed by the other subgroups in this statement, (c) a very slim contingent of the educated who have reasonable concerns about vaccines and their efficacy (only fed by the lack of transparency of federal databases), (d) profit based sophists…and some who pretend to still be real scientists…’anything if it makes them a buck!’ (we removed a forward recently ), (e) cultists, (f) the religious (okay…no further to be said), (g) those paid by others to drive fear into the population for their own nefarious designs, and multiple subgroups of the above…for instance…PC? (d,e,& g)

The provaxers? They make pronouncements like they can heal humanity with the wave of a syringe! Not likely. Reality is much too complex. I fit them into many of the same categories as the antivaxers…even the last one – (g) those paid by others to drive fear into the population for their own nefarious designs,… Why? The Illuminati seldom plays one side of the street. They like to have their investment in both sides, so they can always (in their estimation and definition)…”win.”

The antivaxers throw so much false science at you, you couldn’t possibly wade through it, and evaluate it all, even if you had medical or biological credentials, could you? That’s why there is so much of it. Most of it is bullsh/it! The provaxers treat allopathic medical science as if the members are GODS IN WHITE COATS, and preach to you that NOTHING can go wrong if you place BLIND TRUST in the latest GOD called MEDICAL SCIENCE, don’t they?

But…after we consider all the anti’s, pro’s, con’s, conartists ,…there’s YOU…all those people that none of us who are widely read, know. I have had a couple weeks to think about YOU…honestly…it was much better than just thinking about myself…and the condition I was in!

Yes, I could banter on about t-cells, immune response…in my biological way …etc…etc…and go on about immunology for hours and hours…but…

YOU, the YOU I likely don’t know, may be right in the middle of making important decisions for yourselves and your families right now, aren’t YOU?

Yes, I can still see the difference between REAL and BULLSH/IT! I saw a lot of the latter in the printed material sent to me via PC.

Yes, I am highly educated in Biology. Yes, I am a professional microbiologist with expert level infection/resistance and vaccine experience, so…aside from ADVISING YOU to seek out the opinion of your TRUSTED LICENSED HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL, while utilizing the wisdom you have accumulated from YOUR personal family in making informed decisions…

…and as the antivaxers ONLY want to hear from antivaxers…and as the provaxers ONLY want to hear from provaxers…

…and just like I told everyone in Zurich, I am not here from the government…I am quite retired…and I do wish to help. I saw innocent people there, and bullshtters! The few bullshtters wanted desperately to whip up the innocent people at my predicted and quite accurate responses…

(I have a print out of a certain website in front of me. I can feel the “gleeful lust” in it. Lust for money. Lust for fear. Lust for power. All self-absorbed, huh? It’s not how they once pretended themselves to be? I know. I am by no means angry at them…I pity them too much to be. They are only building a house of mirrors. They will one day, not long from now, face that reality. All I can do, my Brothers and Sisters, is refer YOU to Matthew 10:16.)

…so…being I am not so haughty as to tell YOU what to do, I ask now, now that we are at this important hour (for some), I ask YOU…what would you like from me? What can I do to help?

No more “California, here I come!” Go to Texas, Young Man! (And Young Woman!)

Texas Governor Rick Perry’s Rx for states hit hardest by the recession

    http://www.hughhewitt.com/transcripts.aspx?id=3da778be-da7b-4220-9040-3e1ebc7d7efc

    EXCERPT

HH: It’s going to be a spirited race, I think, Governor. Every time I’ve brought it up with Texans around a table, it’s like benches clear, and tables get turned over.

I’m just not bringing it up in Texas anymore.

RP: (laughing) The key is that we’ve done a good job of governing this state over the course of the last eight years, and that you look at job creation, and the tort reform that you’re celebrating today is just one of the great examples of what we’ve been able to put in place here that has made Texas a haven.

People want to move to this state. About a thousand people a day are moving into the state of Texas.

    HH: Wow.

RP: We go out there and recruit in California pretty regularly. Metronics, a great medical technology company is moving out of the Bay Area in California, and coming to San Antonio this year, in March of, this last March.

Toyota closed down the last automobile manufacturing facility out there in California, and that small pickup line, the Tacoma line, is going to be coming to San Antonio to the Toyota plant there.

So you know, the fact of the matter is, unless California comes to their senses, starts passing some sensible tax cuts, quits spending all the money, has a regulatory climate that’s fair and balanced, and passed tort reform that doesn’t allow for frivolous lawsuits, we’re going to keep coming to California, and we’re going to keep recruiting your businesses, and it’s not going to get any better.

    They can turn that…

HH: It’s not just California. Every high tax state, high tort state in the country loses jobs and businesses to Texas.

In fact, I’ve got an affiliate down in San Antonio, KLUP, and as soon as you build me that new studio, I’m there, Governor.

Now if you got the Governor’s Association, and you sit down with, Republican or Democrat, high tax, high tort state, and you say to them the three things they’ve got to do, what are those, Governor?

RP: Well actually, there’s four things they have to do.

They have to have a tax system in place, a tax structure, that is as light upon the business creators as you can have.

The second one is you’ve got to have a regulatory climate that is fair and balanced and predictable. I can’t tell you how important it is for businesses to know that you’ve got a predictable environment in your regulatory climate.

The third thing is, you’ve got to pass tort reform. You’ve got to tell businesses and doctors and those folks that listen, you’re not going to be over-sued in our state.

And the fourth thing is that you must invest in an accountable public school system, so that when those businesses do move to your state, they know there is a skilled workforce that’s going to be waiting for them.

That’s the four things. Now that’s pretty simple, actually. The tough part is implementing it, having a courageous legislature that will take on the special interests, say no to them, and do what’s right for the people and the business generators.

Then, there is a fifth thing that you need to do as a government, and that’s get out of the way and let the private sector do what the private sector does best, and that’s create jobs and wealth.

    The Michigan economic example

    http://blogs.reuters.com/james-pethokoukis/2009/10/07/the-michigan-economic-example/

Both California and Michigan are turning into powerful economic examples of what not to do.

Here is a bit on Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s green job push:
Since taking office in 2003, Granholm has created 163,300 positions, her office says.

She expects that a recent infusion of more than $1 billion from the Obama administration aimed at nurturing car battery and electric-vehicle projects will generate 40,000 more positions by 2020.

In the past decade, however, as the auto industry has grown smaller, Michigan has lost 870,000 jobs — about 632,000 of them during Granholm’s tenure.

The number is expected to reach 1 million by late next year, the end of her term.

(And yet these Blue states keep electing Dem governors. I don’t get it!)

  123. rosettasister Says:

More on the erosion of dollar dominance

    http://blogs.reuters.com/james-pethokoukis/2009/10/07/more-on-the-erosion-of-dollar-dominance/

Again, keep inflation low, productivity high and deficits narrow — and let the dollar worry about itself.

How am I wrong on this?

And Simon Johnson explains why the White House likes the current dollar decline — as long as inflation stays low:

This may, of course, turn out to be a miscalculation, but

think what a weaker dollar does for the industrial heartland, where so many congressional seats will be in play and where today

it’s easier to export or compete against imports because the same dollar costs convert into fewer euros, yen, or renminbi (The renminbi is issued by the People’s Bank of China, the monetary authority of the PRC.)

(this is what a “weaker” dollar means—foreigners can more easily afford our goods and their stuff is more expensive to us).

If the dollar stays weak or declines further, our car companies, machinery makers, and turbine blade manufacturers will soon be rehiring and we’ll finally get some job growth as part of our sputtering economic recovery.

(So it would appear Pethokoukis disagrees with Kudlow? Weak Dollar or Strong Dollar? They both can’t be right.)

  124. rosettasister Says:

Pelosi, the VAT and Club Wagner

    http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/07/pelosi-the-vat-and-club-wagner/

Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, sounded quite open to the idea of a value-added tax during her recent appearance on Charlie Rose.

(James Pethokoukis of Reuters has the details.)

    http://blogs.reuters.com/james-pethokoukis/2009/10/06/obama-and-the-vat-now-its-pelosis-turn/

As I briefly explained in my column today, a value-added tax — or VAT — is essentially a national sales tax.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/07/business/07leonhardt.html?_r=1

It has the advantage of taxing consumption rather than income, which should encourage savings.

Savings, in turn, leads to corporate investment, and investment leads to economic growth.

As taxes go, the VAT has much to recommend it.

A VAT would also help the government raise revenue to help close its long-term budget gap.

As far as I can tell, Ms. Pelosi didn’t say that taxes needed to rise in order to close this gap — which would earn her membership in our Club Wagner, alongside Alan Greenspan, John Podesta, Timothy Geithner and others.

    http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/podesta-joins-club-wagner/

But calling for a VAT is a step in that direction.

We’ll be watching to see if Ms. Pelosi takes the next step anytime soon.

Finance Panel Vote Delayed; Members Await New CBO Estimates

    http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Daily-Reports/2009/October/07/CBO-Timetable-Politics.aspx

CongressDaily: “Finance Chairman Max Baucus expects to get CBO scores soon, possibly today, on his committee’s proposal.

Timing for a vote in his panel will depend on what those scores reveal about the cost of his measure and whether it remains deficit-neutral after the committee’s modifications.

Eight moderate Democrats further complicated the floor effort Tuesday by asking Reid to post on the Internet for 72 hours *** the full legislative text *** of a final bill and complete CBO scores ‘prior to the first vote to proceed on health reform legislation'”

    (Edney and Friedman, 10/7)

(Kudos to this Gang of Eight!)

    Roll Call:

    Sens. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.),

    Evan Bayh (D-Ind.),

    Mary Landrieu (D-La.),

    Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.),

    Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.),

    Ben Nelson (D-Neb.),

    Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and

    Jim Webb (D-Va.)

penned a letter to Reid calling for a 72-hour waiting period and a completed cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office before he moves to proceed on any health care bill.

    (Pierce, 10/6)

  129. rosettasister Says:

    A Tale of Two Senators

“Democrats are tiptoeing around Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) these days,” according to The Hill.

How Rockefeller will cast his upcoming Senate Finance Committee vote isn’t a sure thing, but his Democratic colleagues are avoiding the topic and instead letting President Obama do the talking.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus maintains that Rockefeller will vote for the bill, but he hasn’t talked directly with him about this decision.

But “Obama has urged him to, both in person and on the phone, and now the West Virginian’s colleagues seem to be giving him space to let the president’s words sink in.”

    ***

Republicans are using a different strategy to press their own unpredictable member to oppose the panel’s health reform measure.

“Republican senators are reaching out to Sen. Olympia Snowe (Maine) to get a sense of how she intends to vote.

But rather than confront her in large groups and risk rattling the centrist lawmaker, they are seeking private, one-on-one meetings to make their case against the bill”

What do these two men have in common?—-NOTHING EXCEPT THIS DATE!

    Michael Jackson and Ed Freeman

They both died June 25th, 2009.

One has been covered 24/7 by the media the other has been forgotten.

Travel back with me 44 years…..

You’re a 19-year-old kid. You’re critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley , 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray, Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.

You’re lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you’re not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away and you’ll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter and you look up to see an unarmed Huey, but it doesn’t seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it.

Ed Freeman is coming for you. He’s not Medi-Vac, so it’s not his job, but he’s flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come.

    He’s coming anyway.

And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire as they load 2 or 3 of you on board.

Then he flies you up and out, through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses.

And he kept coming back, 13 more times, and took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out.

Medal of Honor Recipient Ed Freeman died on Wednesday, June 25th, 2009, at the age of 80, in Boise , ID.

    May God rest his soul..

Since the media didn’t give him the coverage he deserves, send this to every red-blooded American you know.

THANKS AGAIN, ED, FOR WHAT YOU DID FOR OUR COUNTRY.

Subject: HR 615 – Please forward to everyone you know
On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment, courtesy of Republican Tom Coburn which would require all Members of Congress and their staff members to enroll in any new government-run health plan.

Congressman John Fleming has proposed an amendment that would require Congressmen and Senators to take the same health care plan that they would force on us.. (Under proposed legislation they are exempt.)

Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go to his Website and sign his petition. The process is very simple. I have done just that at:

    http://fleming.house.gov/index.html

Senator Coburn and Congressman Fleming are both physicians. Regardless of your political beliefs, it sure seems reasonable that Congress should have exactly the same medical coverage that they impose on the rest of us.

Let’s make this go viral, folks!!! Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!

  151. jrh Says:

Here’s a couple of questions to kick around.

If Orly’s case is actually tried and O is found ineligible (BIG if), would the 9th circuit kill it?

If it fast tracks to the SCOTUS, will Sotomayor be required to recuse since her appointment is predicated on an illegal appointment? And, if so, a 4-4 judgment would go to Roberts would it not?

I think the power of appointment rests with the President with the consent of the Senate. The appointment by a usurper would be invalid. Am I reading this wrong?

    Article II, Sect 2

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

Somali pirates mistake French military tanker for victim.

PARIS — Somali pirates in two skiffs fired on a French navy vessel early Wednesday after apparently mistaking it for a commercial boat, the French military said. The French ship gave chase and captured five suspected pirates.

No one was wounded by the volleys from the Kalashnikov rifles directed at La Somme, a 3,800-ton refueling ship, said Rear Admiral Christophe Prazuck, a military spokesman.

La Somme “was probably taken for a commercial ship by the two small skiffs” some 250 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia, said Prazuck.

    Here’s Leo’s take:

How did the DOJ miss the one case which makes dismissal a slam dunk? Are they trying to ensure the case is heard on the merits?

The only answer I can think of is that the DOJ knows more cases are coming down the pike, some of which will be brought by very skilled attorneys with plaintiffs who have much stronger cases. If the Barnett case gets heard on the merits and it loses, that sets a very bad precedent for these future cases. If the Barnett case is dismissed on subject matter jurisdiction no issues of res judicata apply and future cases won’t be jeopardized.

    Dear Messers DeJute & West:

Dr. Taitz has asked me to ask you whether you are willing to stipulate that, now that the Scheduling Order has been made final, rather than moot, that it is now time for us to begin discovery. We need to start sending out notices of deposition duces tecum to parties and subpoenas duces tecum to non-parties. The Judge specifically said that the Scheduling order would only be important if the case were going to go forward, and he seems to have spoken on this point.

There seems to be a fast-spreading rumor that U.S. District Court Judge David O. Carter has thrown out a motion to dismiss the lawsuit challenging President Barack Obama’s legitimacy as president. Here’s one of the Web sites that’s saying that.

    http://giveusliberty1776.blogspot.com/

Carter could rule at any moment – or next week – but he hasn’t made a decision yet. The evidence being presented that he has ruled is simply his order confirming trial dates should that suit proceed. A jury trial would start next Jan. 26.

I haven’t spoken to plaintiff’s attorney Orly Taitz about this, but I spoke to plaintiff’s attorney Gary Kreep and he confirmed that there has been no ruling yet issued on the defense’s motion to dismiss.

  190. CJ Says:

Ok ignore the link. Didn’t go where I wanted it to so here’s the whole thing:

    National Swine Flu Action Plan

    The Power of the Sheriff

    Dear Sheriff ________________,

As concerned citizens of the United States and a citizen of _______________State, county of __________________, we respectfully ask for your attention to this matter.

As you know, the Federal Government is planning to implement a National Swine Flu program where every American will be required to take up to three flu vaccines this year. Please refer to the “Swine Flu Vaccine Fact Sheet” for information about the flu vaccines that will be given to Americans, including young children, pregnant mothers and all first responders. Due to the toxic nature of these flu vaccines, lack of safety studies, vaccine ingredients and where the vaccines are coming from, as citizens, we are very concerned.

As you know, the County Sheriff has taken an “Oath of Office” to uphold the Constitution of the United States. In order for the founding fathers to perpetuate the principles of the Constitution they secured a proviso in Article VI, paragraph 3 which states very clearly, … “all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation to support this constitution.” The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer in the country!

Our founding fathers knew that someday, the government could become oppressive and usurp their power against the people. The message is loud and clear to all peace keeper officers: you have sworn a solemn oath to uphold, support and obey the United States constitution. That oath is to protect the people who voted him/her into a position. It is an oath to allegiance to liberty, freedom and justice.

America was founded as a Constitutional Republic, a representative form of government with extremely limited powers, confined within the parameters, expressively set forth by the supreme law of the land, the Constitution itself. The Bill of Rights prohibits Congress from making any law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof and prohibits the federal government from depriving any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law. The Bill of Rights plays a central role in American law and government, and remains a fundamental symbol of the freedoms and culture of the nation.

Sheriff Richard Mack and the Supreme Court Case 1997

In 1994, Congress and President Clinton passed the Brady Bill to promote gun control. A mandate went to all states ordering them to do their bidding and promote gun control. Sheriff Mack of Arazona believed this to be a violation of the Constitution and sued the Federal Governmet. The Supreme Court ruled June 27, 1997 that “The Brady Bill was unconstitutional and that the Federal Government could not commander state our county officers for federal bidding.” In the ruling, Justice Scalia wrote for the majority, stating, “The Federal Government may not compel the states to enact or enforce a federal regulatory program.” Justice Scalia emphisis this point, “This seperation of two spheres is one of the Constitution’s structural protections of liberty, a healthy balance of power between States and the Federal Government will reduce the risk of tyranny and abuse from either front.”

It is clear that we the people and you, our county sheriff, have the power to stop any federal mandate from entering the county/state that violates the individual rights of the people. To force vaccinate, to impose fines or to imprison people who refuse the vaccine will make law-abiding American citizens criminals! To threaten, discriminate, and force parents to vaccinate their babies, force-vaccinate pregnant mothers, fire healthcare workers who refuse to vaccinate or threaten our freedom is wrong. This is a violation of our rights. The governement has even stated that people who refuse the vaccine will be quarantined. The state of Massachusetts just passed a bill on Monday July 25, 2009 that will emprison anyone who refused the vaccine and fine them $1000. per day! Our liberty and freedom are in joepardy.

We are asking that you, as our sheriff, please support and enforce the following:

    This is what we want:

The right to refuse the vaccine for ourselves and our families
The right to self-quarantine if necessary, and we agree to do so
To be treated fairly and with respect
The right to peacefully assemble for church and other functions
We will take full responsibility to care for our families
We acknowledge that if there is a major out-break; we will cooperate with our local peace keepers.

This is what we do not want:

We do not want to be treated as criminals for refusing the vaccines.
We do not want to be financially fined for refusing get vaccines.
We do not want our children or ourselves quarantined for any reason.
We do not want our children removed form any school or building without our informed consent.
We want to peacefully express the magnitude of this situation in an effort to successfully communicate our feelings and our expectations under the United States Constitution. There are people who feel strongly enough about this to resist with violence. This is an effort to avoid that scenario.

The community and the people you are charged to protect deserve to know where you stand on this crucial issue. For that reason, we request that you please sign a statement of Intention. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

    Sincerely,

    YOUR SIGNATURE

ACTION FOLLOWS MINUTE ORDER FINALIZING DATES, DISAGREEMENT WITH DEFENSE ON PROCEEDING IN DISCOVERY — Captain Barnett gives her reaction
    by John Charlton

(Oct. 7, 2007) — At approximately 2:30 PM this afternoon, Eastern Time, The Post & Email learned that Judge Carter had ordered the dates finalized in the case Captain Pamela Barnett et al. vs. Obama et al.. The finalizing of the dates for the trial is normal procedure when the Court has decided a trial will be held; thus, the order contained in the Minute Order is clear indication that either the Motion to Dismiss will be in part or wholly denied, or that Judge David O. Carter has decided to reserve judgment on the Motion to Dismiss until after the jury verdict in the trial — which is done in some cases.

In response to the exchange between Plaintiff’s counsel and Defense Counsel on the Minute Order and its significance, Dr. Orly Taitz, esq. has just filed, minutes ago, a Motion for Relief from the Stay for Discovery.

Forceful Exchange between Plaintiffs and Defense, earlier today
The reason for filing is explained in the accompanying exhibits, which detail the conversation between parties moments after the Minute Order was published. First Mr. Charles E. Lincoln III, on behalf of Dr. Orly Taitz, communicated the following to the Defense’s counsels:

WASHINGTON – Former Republican House majority leader Tom DeLay says he has “no idea” whether Barack Obama is constitutionally eligible to serve as president because he refuses to show his birth certificate to the American people.

In answer to a question from Newsweek about statements he previously made with regard to Obama’s eligibility, he stated: “What I said was, to answer a question from Chris Matthews, I said: ‘Why wouldn’t the president of the United States show the American people his birth certificate?’ You have to show a birth certificate to play little league baseball. It’s a question that should be answered. It’s in the Constitution that you have to be a natural-born citizen of the United States to be president.”

Asked whether be believed Obama was a citizen, DeLay responded: “I have no idea.”

I just posted this at Leo’s, currently in moderation, and wanted to share it here as well:

Yes, indeed. The typed in eligibility language on the 2000 certification from the DNC to Hawaii does seem very, very odd. An obvious addition after first printing, but the question is when did that addition occur, before or after the three signatures? Not very professional if the former, for such an official document. Very strange.

Here is yet another oddity. First take a good look at these documents from the 2008 election, received on request by someone from Hawaii; this version includes a letter from the Hawaii Office of Elections, and the Democratic Party of Hawaii Official Certification of Nomination (henceforth referred to as the DPHOCN), all for 2008:

    http://moniquemonicat.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/hawaii-response.pdf

Note the following wording on the 2008 DPHOCN:

“This is to certify that the following candidates for President and Vice-President of the United States are legally qualified to serve under the provisions of the national Democratic Parties balloting at the Presidential Preference Poll and Caucus held on February 19, 2008 in the state of Hawaii and by acclamation at the National Democratic Convention held August 27, 2008 in Denver, Colorado.”

Now, compare this if you will to Justin Riggs’ recent post of his receipt from Hawaii of the 2000 and 2004 DNC certifications, along with the 2000 and 2004 DPHOCN’s, here: http:
    //www.yourfellowcitizen.com/2009/10/2000-and-2004-democrat-and-republican.html

The 2000 DPHOCN uses the following wording:

“This is to certify that the following candidates for President and Vice-President of the United States are legally qualified to serve under the provisions of the United States Constitution and are the duly chosen candidates of both the state and the National Democratic Parties by balloting at the Presidential Preference Poll and Caucus held March 7, 2000 in the state of Hawaii and by acclamation at the National Democratic Convention held August 14-17, 2000 in Los Angeles, California.”

Notice any key differences between the 2008 and the 2000 DPHOCN?

Okay, let’s take a look at the 2004 DPHOCN. Remember, this is the one where on the DNC’s certification to Hawaii, the eligibility language is there, but seemingly typed in after printing… at the very least anomalous.

“This is to certify that the following candidates for President and Vice-President of the United States are legally qualified to serve under the provisions of the United States Constitution and are the duly chosen candidates of both the state and the National Democratic Parties by balloting at the Presidential Preference Poll and Caucus held May 30, 2004 in the state of Hawaii and by acclamation at the National Democratic Convention held July 26, 2004 in Boston, Massachusetts.”

Whoa, Nellie! Did we read that right? So, in 2008, Hawaii left out the part of the certification that reads “legally qualified to serve under the provisions of the United States Constitution” and instead substituted it with “legally qualified to serve under the provisions of the national Democratic Parties balloting…” and then continued with the rest of the wording from “balloting” onward? Really? Tell me I’m not seeing things here…

Go read ‘em for yourselves, folks.

The State of Illinois’ pile of unpaid bills has grown to a record-breaking $3 billion. Comptroller Dan Hynes said Tuesday it’s never before been this bad at this point in any previous fiscal year. CBS 2 Political Editor Mike Flannery reports that some social service agencies that rely heavily on state reimbursement warn they will soon be forced out of business.

Hynes said that things are likely to get worse before the state’s bleak revenue picture begins to improve.

The comptroller reported corporate income tax receipts down $77 million for July through September; sales tax receipts, down $244 million; personal income tax receipts, down $251 million.

One result: the typical creditor must now wait three months to be paid by the state, compared to a two-month wait at this time last year.

It’s all very discouraging to the physician who runs Family Home Service.

Dr. Norman James said he does not have enough cash to pay his 250 employees this Friday. He said he may have to close the doors, leaving more than 450 clients without the support they need to stay in their own homes and out of expensive nursing homes.

Dr. James said his bank had tripled the size of his line of credit, but that money is now all gone. Dr. James said Illinois owes his agency $900,000, about $700,000 of it past due by up to five months.

Evelyn Gonzalez, a Family Home Service supervisor, said she can’t afford to miss a pay check.

“It’s nerve-wracking. Because I have bills to pay just like everybody else,” Gonzalez said.

Another supervisor, Debra Estrada, is a single mom with two young children. Without a pay check, she said, “I can’t pay my rent, I can’t buy groceries to feed my children. The state does not realize what’s happening to us, the little people. Seriously.”

Similar fears haunt tens of thousands at social service agencies all across Illinois.

“A Chicago Meals on Wheels and nutrition center can’t purchase food and is facing eviction,” Hynes said. “A large Lake County disabled program can’t make insurance or mortgage payments.”

Hynes said he’s now getting 2,600 calls a week from creditors desperate to be paid by the state.

While the General Assembly is scheduled to reconvene next week in Springfield, no one’s even pretending to offer a comprehensive solution to the unprecedented budget disaster. Democrats and Republicans, the governor and legislative leaders all insist that must wait until next year.

Late Tuesday, Mayor Daley described Chicago’s revenue situation as “very serious.”

Because local governments receive a proportionate share of state revenues, including taxes on income and sales, they face the same problems the State of Illinois does.

A: Man speculates how old the universe is in the absence of a creator.

When God created Adam, he created a man, not an infant. He set the stars in the sky to give light on the earth. Have you ever wondered why some believe that God made the stars but don’t accept that he made a mature universe with the light in place reaching the earth to serve the very purpose he states as the reason he placed the stars there? That’s like saying, “well if Adam was 20 years old in the Garden of Eden, then God must have made him 20 years ago.

There was a bang alright…one orchestrated by the most intelligent mind in existence. Everywhere we look, we see Fibonacci spirals…they don’t randomly occur by chance and certainly not by a chance explosion.

Targeting the Moon: Observatories Gear Up for Friday Lunar Crash

Scientists are hoping for a literal slam dunk with NASA’s upcoming Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS mission — an event to be observed by a coordinated network of Earth and space-based equipment.

LCROSS will search for water ice on the moon on Friday morning by crashing its spent upper-stage Centaur rocket into Cabeus, a permanently sunlight-shy crater within the lunar south pole region. The impact is set for 7:30 a.m. EDT (1130 GMT).

That Centaur will serve as a heavy impactor on the moon, with scientists hoping a resulting debris plume will ascend above the moon’s landscape. The intent is to toss tons of debris and potentially water ice and vapor high above the lunar surface.

Breaking: Explosion In Kabul Near Indian Embassy
    **Initial Casualty Count Added**
    October 7th, 2009 Posted By Hardball1911.

    AP
KABUL (AP) – A large explosion rocked the center of Afghanistan’s capital early Thursday, near the Indian Embassy and the Interior Ministry. Information on casualties was not immediately available.

Associated Press reporters heard the explosion in the morning and saw a plume of smoke rising from a site in downtown Kabul.

An AP reporter at the scene saw two sporty utility vehicles badly damaged, one of them labeled as a United Nations vehicle. The center of the blast appeared to be just outside the Indian embassy. Windows in surrounding shops were shattered.

Police officers on the site said they believed it was the work of a suicide bomber, but did not provide further details.

U.S. and NATO spokespeople said they did not yet have any information on the explosion.

The Afghan capital has been hit numerous times in recent months by suicide bombers and roadside bombs. The attacks usually target international military forces or government installations, but Afghan businesses and civilians are also often killed or injured.

In the most recent attack in mid-September, a suicide car bomber rammed into an Italian military convoy on a road leading to the airport. That blast killed six Italian soldiers and 10 Afghan civilians.

    **Added**
KABUL, Oct. 8 (AP) – (Kyodo)—At least eight people were killed or wounded in a large blast in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Thursday, officials and witnesses said.

The attack happened in front of the Afghan Interior Ministry and near the Indian Embassy, according to the witnesses

Congress’ Secret Plan to Pass Obamacare – CONFIRMED
    by DefendUSx October 08, 2009 02:58

Leaders in the House and Senate have a plan to pass President Barack Obama’s sweeping health care plan by Thanksgiving without any significant participation by the American public. CNS News has confirmed the details in our September 22nd titled “Passing a Shell of A Bill: Congress’ Secret Plan to Ram Through Health Care Reform.” Nicholas Ballasy reports “a senior aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told CNSNews.com that it is ‘likely’ that Reid will use H.R. 1586—a bill passed by the House in March to impose a 90-percent tax on bonuses paid to employees of certain bailed-out financial institutions—as a ‘shell’ for enacting the final version of the Senate’s health care bill, which Reid is responsible for crafting.”

This story confirms the four part scenario that would railroad the bill through the Senate using a very unusual closed door procedure to craft the bill with no input from the American people.

The four stage plan to pass Obamacare has been publicly confirmed and is ready to be implemented. The following is a comprehensive update:

Step One: “The Senate Finance Committee will finish work on the marking up of Senator Max Baucus’ (D-MT) conceptual framework for legislation by this Friday.” Progress on this had been stalled and the bill was not passed by the end of last week. Foxnews.com is reporting that the Congressional Budget Office score of the bill will be released later today and a high score may further stall progress on the Committee’s Vapor Bill. Senate Finance Committee’s progress on passing something out of committee – INCOMPLETE.

Step Two: Next, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will take the final product of the Senate Finance Committee and merge it with the product of the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee. CNSnews.com has confirmed that “the actual final text of the legislation will be determined by Reid himself, who will consolidate the legislation approved by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and the still-unapproved legislation from the Senate Finance Committee. Reid will be able to draft and insert textual language that was not expressly approved by either committee.” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will write the final version of Obamacare to be considered in the Senate with no input from the American people. This is an extremely complex procedure that will not be done in public, or in the form of a hearing, or a public conference committee, and only Senator Harry Reid, some other Senators chosen by Reid and Obama Administration officials will be allowed to read the bill before the Senate debate starts. Merger of the bills – IN PROGRESS.

Step Three: Senator Reid will then move to proceed to H.R. 1586, a bill to impose a tax on bonuses received by certain TARP recipients. A senior aid to Senate Majority Leader Ried has confirmed that he will move to proceed to Senate Calendar Number 36, H.R. 1586, or another House passed tax measure, so the Senate can avoid the Constitutional mandate that tax bills originate in the House. Proceed to tax shell of a bill – CONFIRMED.

Step Four: This scenario would most likely be implemented after the Massachusetts state legislature gives Governor Deval Patrick the power to appoint a new Senator and that Senator is seated by the Senate. The Senate swore in new Massachusetts Senator Paul Kirk on September 25th. Change Law of Massachusetts to allow for interim Senator – COMPLETE.

The final step in this plan is for the House to take up Obama care, without amending the legislation, and then sending that bill directly to the President for his signature. Matt Cover at CNSnews.com reports “House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) won’t rule out having the House vote on the Senate health-care bill without making any changes in it, which would allow the bill to go directly to President Barack Obama without having to pass through a House-Senate conference committee and another round of votes in the House and Senate–and a longer period of public scrutiny of what the text of the proposed law actually says.” This scenario is in the process of being implemented and, if successful, it will result in Obamacare being on the President’s desk in time for Thansgiving with minimal participation of the American public.

The San Francisco Examiner published an editorial today that exposed the fact that the American people can’t see the bill. “When then-Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama promised not to sign major legislation until it had been posted on the Internet for public reading at least five days, trusting voters took him at his word. Now they know better. Not only is the actual language of what is likely to become the main legislative vehicle for Obama’s signature health care reform not available on the Internet, it hasn’t been given to members of the key Senate committees or the Congressional Budget Office.” The procedure being used, in addition to the exclusion of the American people from the process, should be of grave concern to all who want to participate in democracy and have a say in Congress’ health care reforms that will touch 1/6th of the American economy.

Impeachment suggested to remove ‘threats’ to America

A political activist who was behind the famous Willie Horton advertisement that left Gov. Michael Dukakis’ candidacy for president floundering and was among the first to sound the alarm on the need for Bill Clinton’s impeachment says the United States is collapsing around its citizens right now, but there is a defense.

“Make no mistake. We’re now in the middle of a bloodless coup – the takeover of an entire nation by the hate-America crowd – a cold-blooded gang that despises America’s prosperity, our standing in the world, our trust in God and our generosity and goodness,” says political activist Floyd Brown in a post on the new Impeach Obama Campaign website.

His suggested defense is nothing more or less than a strike at the emperor, plans which are detailed on the website.

“Like so many on the far-left before him, going all the way back to Karl Marx, he [Obama] believes that it’s his mission to promote ‘equality of outcome’ over ‘equality of opportunity’ even if Americans must learn to live in chains to make it happen,” Brown said. “That worldview makes Barack Hussein Obama a very dangerous man and one of the greatest threats to your personal liberty today.”

Brown said that view also explains why Obama “has already gobbled-up major banks and why the government now controls more and more of our money – yours and mine. And if you wake up one day to discover you’re broke, don’t be surprised. Barack Hussein Obama is Bernie Madoff with the political power of the presidency at his disposal.”

CBO estimates, in its latest Monthly Budget Review, that the federal budget deficit was about $1.4 trillion in fiscal year 2009, nearly $1 trillion greater than the shortfall recorded in 2008.

Relative to the size of the economy,

the 2009 deficit was equal to 9.9 percent of GDP (the highest since 1945),

compared with 3.2 percent in 2008.

As shown in the table below, both lower revenues and increased spending contributed to the growth in the deficit.

Revenues fell by almost $420 billion below receipts in 2008.

Total revenues in 2009 were the lowest level in over 50 years.

Conversely, outlays increased by over $530 billion in 2009, the highest level in over 50 years.

    ***

    (FY 2008 3.2% FY 2009 9.9%)

9.9 percent of GDP is certainly better than the 13.1 percent the CBO predicted. I’ll try and figure out the difference.

This makes me feel a little bit better, but not much.

What happens in FY 2010 and for the next five and ten fiscal years is what counts.

We are still on an unsustainable path.

U.S. Deficit for 2009 Totals $1.4 Trillion, Budget Office Says

    http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=aA8lChe4zUQU

The U.S. government ended its 2009 fiscal year with a deficit of $1.4 trillion, the biggest since 1945, the Congressional Budget Office reported.

The deficit amounted to 9.9 percent of the nation’s economy, triple the size of the shortfall for 2008.

Obama administration officials and Democratic leaders in Congress have expressed reluctance about pushing for a second stimulus package.

Still, with unemployment on the rise and likely to reach 10 percent by the end of the year, President Barack Obama and his advisers are considering a mix of spending programs and tax cuts aimed at boosting the economy.

The CBO’s deficit estimate is based on U.S. Treasury data and its own estimates.

The Treasury Department will report the actual 2009 deficit later this month.

In weeks of debate, the committee made a series of changes that both added to and reduced its cost.

Democrats, as well as Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe from Maine, a key swing vote, were concerned that the bill forced people who couldn’t afford it to buy insurance.

So the panel cut in half the new penalties on people who don’t carry health insurance and phased them in more gradually.

It also narrowed the number of people who would be required to carry health insurance to exempt people who would have to spend more than 8% of their income on insurance, down from 10%.

The new version also increased the tax on generous health-insurance plans and raised the annual fee levied on insurers.

Ms. Snowe said she must “thoroughly review and evaluate” the budget office’s analysis before deciding how to proceed.

American troops in Afghanistan losing heart, say army chaplains

A soldier finds solace during a Sunday service at the Airborne chapel – but morale is falling fast, say the chaplains

American soldiers serving in Afghanistan are depressed and deeply disillusioned, according to the chaplains of two US battalions that have spent nine months on the front line in the war against the Taleban.

Many feel that they are risking their lives — and that colleagues have died — for a futile mission and an Afghan population that does nothing to help them, the chaplains told The Times in their makeshift chapel on this fortress-like base in a dusty, brown valley southwest of Kabul.

“The many soldiers who come to see us have a sense of futility and anger about being here. They are really in a state of depression and despair and just want to get back to their families,” said Captain Jeff Masengale, of the 10th Mountain Division’s 2-87 Infantry Battalion.

“They feel they are risking their lives for progress that’s hard to discern,” said Captain Sam Rico, of the Division’s 4-25 Field Artillery Battalion. “They are tired, strained, confused and just want to get through.” The chaplains said that they were speaking out because the men could not.

New plan might allow Dems to slip public option through Senate

    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/New-plan-might-allow-Dems-to-slip-public-option-through-Senate-8351547-63634887.html

Senate Democrats desperate to find a way to pass a health care bill that includes a federal insurance plan may have come up with a way to do it without putting moderate members who oppose it in political jeopardy.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is weighing a plan to bring the final health care bill to the floor without a public option — making it much easier to get the 60 votes needed to prevent a Republican filibuster — and then adding the provision later as an amendment.

The public option amendment would be there waiting, but the 60-vote test would technically be on a bill without the government plan.

*** Then moderate Democrats could drop out for the vote on the public option, which requires just 51 votes for passage. ***

(This doesn’t seem correct to me. Because of Byrd rule, any public “option” would require 60 votes, not 51. Is this because it’s a “public option amendment” and not technically a separate “sidecar” bill? Repubs better start talking about this openly!)

“It’s brilliant,” said a top Senate Republican aide. “It gets you your votes on cloture for a package that does not include a public option.”

Reid has not revealed whether he will use this tactic, but he’s considering it.

“We haven’t made any decisions yet,” his spokesman, Jim Manley, said. “We have different options — that is one.”

  256. Troy Says:

How many times over the past year have you asked, “WTF is going on here?”

Would you like ALL of your questions answered?

Pay close attention to every word this man is telling you….He was trying to help save our asses, but we didn’t listen and now we’re screwed!

Keep in mind that it was 1985 when this interview ws conducted….This isn’t someone currently looking at today’s events and giving an analysis….This was almost 25 years ago and it is spot on….He will define Kool-aid for any effing Obots that may be lurking here….If there are any Obots lurking here, then after you watch the video, go drink some toilet water!!!!

  257. rosettasister Says:

In the Senate, Reid needs 60 votes to overcome a possible Republican filibuster.

There are 60 seats in the Democratic Senate caucus, but some independents or moderates are unlikely to support a public option or some of the most costly reforms.

Reid could implement a legislative option known as reconciliation, which would require only 51 votes to pass a health care bill.

However, Republicans warn against such a move as shortsighted legislative warfare that would sow deep and long-lasting division

    ***

The most well-known point of order is referred to as “the Byrd Rule.”

Named after its creator, West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd, the rule generally allows sections of the bill to be struck if they do not have a direct impact on deficit reduction.

Provisions can also be challenged where the impact on spending is “merely incidental.”

(Simple question: Would a financially self-sustaining public option or co-op have a “merely incidental” impact on the deficit?)

    (Simple answer: No.)

  258. rosettasister Says:

Simple questions: Will any public “option” be in the “reconciliation” bill or the “sidecar” bill? Will it require 51 or 60 votes? What about Reid’s “public option amendment” mentioned in comment above?

I’m beginning to think that the senators themselves don’t know for sure. For now, I’m sticking with Senator Gregg’s explanation. He stated any public “option” will be in the “sidecar” and will require 60 votes.

But why is Reid suggesting he can pass a “public option amendment” with just 51 votes?

Wouldn’t an amendment fall under the same rules?

just reading Leo’s site (sorry if Troy’s already posted this).

    If I understand his latest:

The DOJ could have easily have the Judge Carter case dismissed on lack of jurisdiction. There is a very clear precedent case of quo warrtanto jurisdiction.

Leo ponders why the DOJ is not doing that. One possibility is that the DOJ knows strong cases, with standing and jurisdiction, are coming and they would rather the Carter case go to trial where they can win over the weak case of the defendants, making a mockery of this and future NBC cases.

His latest post seems to be digging into this odd tactic by the DOJ even further, suggesting a move to attack a weakness that the DOJ has exposed – quo warranto trial in DC District Court. So, he posted a rather detailed explanation of how an “interested party” (eg Keyes, military), armed with the simple facts that Obama was born under British rule, could approach DC District Court for a quo warranto jury trial.

He ends the post with “Look people, I’m trying to help. Read this over a few times until it sinks in.”

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, sees a growing number of Democrats who oppose their own party’s work in restructuring one-sixth of the nation’s economy through the proposed health reform legislation.

Grassley, who last week was losing hope that such a group would emerge, said Wednesday in a conference call with reporters that some moderates may be joining the minority party in opposition to the health care bill.

Reading from a list, Grassley named Democratic Sens.

    Evan Bayh of Indiana;

    Mary Landrieu of Louisiana;

    Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas;

    Claire McCaskill of Missouri;

    Ben Nelson of Nebraska;

    Mark Pryor of Arkansas; and

    Jim Webb of Virginia and

    Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman

as potential opponents to the legislation.

“I think some of it … would be in reaction to a public option,” Grassley said.

“And then maybe the others is just questions about is it going too far and, particularly if it’s not paid for, or maybe how it’s paid for is another issue.”

Grassley said there may be more names than he listed, and many other reasons why they’ve joined together.

    By Larry Kudlow

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/10/08/the_mundell-laffer_solution_98622.html

Team Obama is in economic trouble on two fronts right now:

The dollar could be headed toward its demise, while the jobs and unemployment numbers have gotten worse.

(The unemployment rate is up to 9.8 percent as of the September report released last week.)

And there’s a simple policy mix the White House could adopt to fix this.

It could enact the Mundell-Laffer supply-side approach of a steady King Dollar for price stability and low marginal tax rates to spur jobs and economic growth.

Yes, this is a supply-side solution: Reducing tax rates will ignite growth incentives.

And by applying it, Team Obama would be borrowing from George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy (and Calvin Coolidge and Andrew Mellon, too).

Forget about Keynesian spending multipliers, which Harvard’s Robert Barrow writes are less than one.

    Forget about class warfare.

    Forget about income redistribution.

To me, the interesting question is to what extent Geithner shares Wall Street’s world view, and how that has influenced policy.

He basically portrays it as an energy tax on Americans (which it is) that will hurt American competitiveness vs. India and China (which is it will.)

But, more interestingly, he makes is clear that does believe in climate change (which the conservative talk radio crowd generally does not).

And you can be sure his campaign for president will have a more expansive energy policy than just “drill, baby, drill.”

During his last run, Romney told me he was certainly willing spend many billions on government investment in alternative energy and other new energy technologies.

That’s right, government spending — though I am sure venture capital would play a huge role as well.

Measured in euros (a more stable ruler than the ever-weakening dollar), U.S. real per capita GDP is down 25% since 2000, while Germany’s is up 4% and tops ours.

The solution is a strong U.S. jobs and wealth program.

It has to include stable money, a flatter, more competitive tax structure, spending restraint, and common-sense bank regulation so small business lending can restart.

Treasury has to rapidly lengthen the maturity of the national debt and take steps to protect the Fed from market losses on its long-term debt holdings.

Pethokoukis: Absolutely. Don’t worry about the dollar per se, just put in place policies that keep inflation low and productivity high.

While Team Obama likes the weak dollar (though Congress is getting worried), the chances of a sharp dollar tumble are rising and will force it to reduce the deficit sooner than it would prefer.

By CBC News, cbc.ca, Updated: October 8, 2009 1:03 PMTroops to stay in Afghanistan after 2011: MacKay

Canada’s troops will stay in Afghanistan even after the combat mission ends in 2011, Defence Minister Peter MacKay told the House of Commons defence committee Thursday in Ottawa.

It is the second time in as many weeks that MacKay has raised the issue, which appears to contradict repeated statements by Prime Minister Stephen Harper that Canada will pull its troops out of Afghanistan by 2011.

The role of the troops will change from fighting a war to development and training, MacKay said. He side-stepped the question of how Canada will carry out such a mission with the resurgency of the Taliban in many parts of southern Afghanistan.

The Conservative government will respect a motion passed in March 2008 to withdraw troops until a new motion is tabled in the Commons, he added.

Earlier in the week, Conservative MP Deepak Obhrai, the parliamentary secretary to the foreign affairs minister, also said a future mission will be brought before Parliament.

In late September, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, called for an additional 40,000 combat troops in Afghanistan.

NATO contributes roughly two-thirds of the more than 100,000 international troops now involved in Afghanistan operations, including more than 3,000 Canadians. A total of 131 Canadian troops have died since the mission began in 2002.

Meanwhile, President Barak Obama is rethinking the U.S. strategy on Afghanistan. His two main options are to bolster the 68,000 troops already there or to try routing out the Taliban in Pakistan with unmanned drones.

    —————————————————-
Muslim group calls for burka ban

A Canadian Muslim group wants the federal government to ban two kinds of garments, the burka and the niqab, worn by some women.

The Muslim Canadian Congress said the garments, which cover the face, have no basis in Islam.

The group’s spokesperson, Farzana Hassan, said the practice of wearing the burka and niqab is more rooted in Middle Eastern culture than in religious teachings. She added that there is nothing in the Qur’an that stipulates women must cover their faces.

She said the issue is one of public safety.

“To cover your face is to conceal your identity,” she said.

“If a government claims to uphold equality between men and women, there is no reason for them to support a practice that marginalizes women.”

The burka is a veil that generally covers the entire body, with only a mesh screen left to see through. The niqab covers virtually all of the face — with a slit generally left open for the eyes.

The proposed ban would not extend to the hijab, the head scarf that leaves the face uncovered.

‘People feel it’s part of their identity’

Mohamed Elmasry, a former president of the Canadian Islamic Congress, downplayed the suggestion that the clothing presents a security risk, saying that only a minority of Muslim women in Canada wear the garments.

He said women should have the choice to cover their face if they wish.

“People feel it’s part of their identity, people feel it’s part of their culture,” he said.

On Thursday, the top Islamic cleric in Egypt barred students from wearing face veils in classes and dorms at Sunni Islam’s leading institute of learning, al-Azhar.

The move by the sheik of al-Azhar, Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi, is apparently part of a broader move by the Egyptian government to clamp down on public manifestations tied to ultraconservative Islam in the country.

Headscarves are common in Egypt but relatively few women wear the niqab, which is much more common in Saudi Arabia.

Some opponents have claimed that Tantawi’s decision is unconstitutional.

FIGHT THE WHITE HOUSE AND HOMELAND SECURITY! DEFEND SHERIFF JOE!
    by DefendUSx October 08, 2009 16:18

But, now the Janet Napolitano and Barack Obama are coming after him . . .

. . . his crime? Enforcing the law too much!!!

Despite that the people of Maricopa County re-elected Sheriff Joe with 83% of the vote, the feds want him gone. And that’s why they’ve sicked the ultra-liberal, America-hating ACLU on him.

What’s more, socialist House Judiciary Chairman, Congressman John Conyers (D-MI) has demanded that Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano “investigate” Sheriff Arpaio for “civil rights” violations.

    What an outrageous charge!!!

Because what they are really upset about is the fact that Sheriff Arpaio actually arrests and deports illegal aliens…

… and in VERY large numbers.

Over the last two years, his Department has found roughly 16,000 illegal aliens in his jails, most of who have since been deported or will soon be deported.

That’s nearly 30 percent of all the illegals deported for the entire country over those same two years.

But the truth is, this success should surprise no one.

HELP STOP OBAMA & NAPOLITANO FROM SHUTTING DOWN SHERIFF JOE! CLICK HERE!

    Why?

For one thing, Sheriff Arpaio is a former U.S. Army officer and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Agent who worked in the field in the United States, Mexico, and in various hot spots in Latin America.

He and his deputies have been trained by the U.S. Immigration Control Enforcement (ICE) Agency and hold a contract to look for and arrest suspected illegal aliens.

Meanwhile, ICE, the FBI, and the Border Patrol will be the first to tell you that Sheriff Arpaio’s force is among the most-professional and effective in the nation.

Yet, instead of being praised, Sheriff Arpaio is being defamed, persecuted and, along with his deputies, may soon face politicized trial and imprisonment.

Because the bottom line is that Sheriff Arpaio is everything socialists like President Obama, Attorney General Holder, and Homeland Security Napolitano fear and detest.

They all look down on those who protect you and me and arrest the criminals who prey on us — including the gang-banging, violent illegal aliens who drain our resources and flood our justice system.

And they, along with a host of leftist groups like the ACLU and ACORN, seek to punish Americans like Sheriff Arpaio with a vengeance.

    Their objective?

To intimidate ANYONE who dares to act to defend our borders and our laws.

**I hope not. I live in Maricopa county and he’s the only Law Enforcement head that cares about the law.

I’m worried about Joe because of his age. I wish he was a decade younger.

A heartfelt “Screw You” to the DHS goons who aren’t fit to carry Sherrif Joe’s baloney-sandwich-filled lunch bucket ;-)

(I would venture to say a majority of the citizens of Maricopa County feel the same way.)

An Inside Look at Three Sheriff’s Departments Using 287(g)

    http://cis.org/Vaughan/Minimalist287(g)

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano took a swipe at her erstwhile rival, the popular Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, by unceremoniously yanking his investigative 287(g) program late last week.

    http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/news/articles/2009/10/03/20091003arpaio-ice1003.html

Since previous audits found no serious problems,

DHS seems to be throwing a bone to the many ethnic and civil liberties groups who resent Arpaio’s unapologetic attention to addressing the crime problems resulting from illegal immigration, and who are constantly clamoring for the program to be ended entirely.

To their dismay, DHS definitely wants to keep Arpaio’s jail removal program, which has so far identified more than 18,000 criminal aliens, and dozens of other 287(g) programs remain intact around the country.

Former White House Speechwriter Suggests Military Coup Could Oust Obama

Former White House speechwriter John L. Perry has courted controversy by suggesting that the U.S. Military, upholding their oath to defend the Constitution against domestic enemies, could stage a bloodless coup to oust President Obama.

In an article originally posted on the Newsmax website, Perry wrote, “There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America’s military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the “Obama problem.” Don’t dismiss it as unrealistic.”
